Eric Bieniemy back at Chiefs practice as wife recovers from shooting
Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has returned to practice following a two-week absence as his wife, Mia Bieniemy, recovered from multiple gunshot wounds during a July 26 incident at the family's home in Ashburn, Virginia.Eric Bieniemy's son, Elijah Bieniemy, was charged with three felonies in connection to the incident, including malicious wounding and discharge of a firearm inside a dwelling. Mia Bieniemy was taken to a local hospital to recover and Eric Bieniemy immediately left the Chiefs to be beside her. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Mia Bieniemy was in stable condition on July 29. According to The Athletic, Eric Bieniemy told fans as he walked to practice Monday "it's great to be back." Bieniemy has not been distant from training camp, however. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes told reporters Saturday, Aug. 8 that Bieniemy has been in contact with the team while away and also was glad to hear that Mia Bieniemy was on the mend."She's doing better now," said Mahomes, who is trying to fully recover from a torn ACL in December in time for Week 1. "So, it's always great to hear the news from him about her and it's been good to talk to him." Bieniemy has been meeting with the team via Zoom and live streaming practices, per Mahomes."I mean, he's still 'EB.' It's not like he's not 'EB.' And so he's calling you at the end of the night and talking to you about kind of throughout the day and all the plays and stuff like that," Mahomes said.Known for bellowing throughout an entire practice, Bieniemy's presence will be welcomed by the players, Mahomes said. "We'll be excited to get him back, but at the same time, we want him to take as much time as he needs to be with his family," Mahomes said. "But when he does come back, hell be the most excited guy on the football field."This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: Eric Bieniemy back at Chiefs practice as wife recovers from shooting
