Nepal have made a major leadership change ahead of the ACC Mens Premier Cup, with leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane returning as the countrys ODI captain. The Cricket Association of Nepal announced the 26-year-old as Rohit Paudels replacement while naming the squad for the tournament in Malaysia from August 30 to September 12.Lamichhane previously led Nepal in 14 ODIs before Paudel took over in 2022. He brings plenty of experience to the role, having taken 154 wickets in 77 ODIs. He is also Nepals fastest bowler to 150 ODI wickets and the first player from the country to take more than 100 T20I wickets.Paudel leaves the captaincy after an impressive spell in charge. Under his leadership, Nepal produced a remarkable run in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2, winning 11 of their final 12 matches and earning direct qualification for the 2023 ODI World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe. He was also an important middle-order batter for the team.Lamichhanes return to the leadership role signals a fresh start for Nepal as they aim to strengthen their 50-over cricket. The squad also features several changes, with Kushal Bhurtel, Bhim Sharki, Nandan Yadav and Binod Bhandari left out. Sompal Kami and Aarif Sheikh return, while Dev Khanal, Sher Malla, Sundeep Jora and Basir Ahamad have been added.Nepal eye another Premier Cup triumphThe 2026 tournament will be the third edition of the ACC Mens Premier Cup and will be played in the 50-over format.
