Biggest winners, losers from Steelers training camp: Week 2
There has been plenty of buzz surrounding the new-look Pittsburgh Steelers during the second week of training camp, including several standouts and duds to recognize. From a rookie once thought to be on the roster bubble to a recently injured veteran, here's a look at the biggest winners and losers from Week 2 of the Steelers' training camp.WinnersGabriel RubioRubio seemed like the odd man out on nearly every 53-man roster projection for the Steelers, but he's made himself nearly uncuttable in Week 2 of training camp thanks to his run-stopping prowess.Yahya BlackBlack looked terrific over the past week and is set to receive a starting opportunity at nose tackle this upcoming season. If Black continues to exceed expectations, the Steelers' defensive line woes may be a thing of the past.Broderick JonesJones entered training camp with a lot of question marks surrounding both his level of play and overall health. But he silenced all the doubters, including myself, over the past week. He finished his strong performance with a dominant showing at Saturday Night Lights practice, which couldn't have come at a better time.Drew AllarI'll be the first to admit that I was leaning far more toward Will Howard than Allar before training camp. But the third-round rookie has more than won me over with some incredible throws he's made in camp. Allar looked great this past week and deserves major praise.LosersWill HowardIt's not a good sign that Allar and Mason Rudolph are stealing the show while Howard is having a pedestrian start to training camp. Howard is basically playing for a roster spot with Pittsburgh, but you wouldn't have guessed it over the past two weeks.Eli HeidenreichThere was honestly no Steelers player who received worse news following the release of the initial depth chart than Heidenreich, who was ranked as the RB5. Heidenreich was already facing an uphill battle to make the roster and could certainly slip through the cracks now that we know he's near the bottom of the running back barrel.Michael Pittman Jr.Pittman's performance hasn't been bad, just quiet. Considering the hype surrounding Pittman when he arrived in Pittsburgh this offseason and the $17.5 million a season the Steelers are paying him, the output over the past week hasn't been enough. Oh, and to make matters worse, he's dealing with a leg injury he suffered on Saturday. For up-to-dateSteelerscoverage, including any training camp news and updates, follow us on X@TheSteelersWireand give ourFacebook pagea like. This article originally appeared on Steelers Wire: Biggest winners, losers from Steelers training camp: Week 2
