The prospect acquired by the Tigers in the Casey Mize trade will wait a little longer to make his debut with the West Michigan Whitecaps, Detroit's High-A affiliate.Kash Mayfield, a left-hander, was placed on the injured list by the Whitecaps on Tuesday. He hasn't pitched since July 24 with High-A Fort Wayne, a San Diego Padres affiliate. He has been battling a hamstring injury.Mayfield was acquired by the Tigers just before the Aug. 3 trade deadline in a deal that sent Mize, a free agent-to-be, to the Padres. Mayfield, 21, came to the Tigers as did fellow lefty Jackson Wolf, 27, who is with Triple-A Toledo.Mayfield was a first-round pick by the Padres, No. 25 overall, in the 2024 draft.He spent the entire season with Fort Wayne before the trade, making 15 starts. The 6-foot-4, 200-pounder was 3-1 with a 3.54 ERA, with 62 strikeouts and 22 walks in 53 innings.In 2025 at Low-A, he had a 2.97 ERA in 29 starts.In high school in Oklahoma, Mayfield twice was the state's Gatorade baseball player of the year.
