Cam Ward struggles in Titans preseason opener
SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA - AUGUST 13: Cam Ward #1 of the Tennessee Titans warms up prior to the start of the game against the San Francisco 49ers at Levi's Stadium on August 13, 2026 in Santa Clara, California. The most concerning thing about it was that he showed a lot of the same issues that gave him problems last year. There were a couple of layup throws that he missed because he didnt set his feet or didnt put any touch on the pass. His footwork was supposed to be one of the things he really focused on this offseason. He also had a couple of plays where he hung onto the ball too long and took an unnecessary hit. There was also a play where he ran backwards and then tried to throw the ball away, but it slipped out of his hand, resulting in an intentional grounding penalty. With all of that being said, it is still way too early to panic with Ward. It was his first game in the new system, and some of the mistakes could just be chalked up to first-game jitters. The most important thing is to see him fix some of the mistakes he made tonight when the Titans take on the Seattle Seahawks at home next Sunday.
