Former UNC football QB named starter at Wake Forest
The college football season is finally here. Week 0 will kick things off this weekend, and it's actually not a terrible slate for Saturday. Among the teams that are playing are the North Carolina Tar Heels, who will face off against the TCU Horned Frogs in Ireland. It will be a very important season for the Tar Heels and Bill Belichick as they need to have a winning season. UNC will have a change at the quarterback position as they saw Max Johnson, Gio Lopez, and Bryce Baker all transferred out. While news broke earlier in the week that Johnson was named the starter at Georgia Southern, Lopez also won the starting job. Lopez was named the starting quarterback at Wake Forest on Tuesday. The former South Alabama transfer has thrown for 4,781 career yards and 32 TDs with 12 rushing TDs. https://t.co/zGCPu5EPXMpic.twitter.com/uKs1tlPJQj Pete Nakos (@PeteNakos) August 25, 2026Lopez transferred to UNC in 2025, coming off an impressive season at South Alabama.
