Browns must consider trading for former first-round QB this offseason
As the Cleveland Browns and general manager Andrew Berry continue to navigate through the hectic 2026 NFL Free Agency period, the struggling franchise has done an excellent job of adding key playmakers to the roster this offseason. The Browns kicked off this week by signing guard Zion Johnson on Monday, followed by the signing of another guard, veteran Elgton Jenkins. With Johnson and Jenkins joining the roster, along with the trade for right tackle Tytus Howard, and Cleveland possessing the No. 6 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, Berry has completely revamped the offensive line for the 2026 season. However, the Browns quarterback room remains a huge question mark heading into next year, with veteran Deshaun Watson and 2025 fifth-round pick Shedeur Sanders likely being the top-two players for the starting role.Still, Berry and the entire front office have plenty of time to add another quarterback to the mix, and luckily for Cleveland, former 2023 first-round pick Anthony Richardson could be the name to look out for after the report of the Indianapolis Colts resigning Daniel Jones to a two-year deal on Wednesday.Colts and QB Daniel Jones reached agreement today on a two-year contract, per sources. The two sides have been working on it for days, getting closer and close recently and finalized the agreement today. pic.twitter.com/3TBulUp5YI Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 11, 2026Why the Browns Should Consider RichardsonRichardson, despite being one of the most polarizing players in the NFL, has caught the attention of many NFL front offices this offseason due to the Colts current quarterback room.As a rookie, the former Florida Gator standout showed flashes of promise in four games played during the 2023 season, throwing for 577 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for 136 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. Unfortunately for Richardson, he was unable to take the next step in his development, as he could not find his footing in 2024.Through his 11 games with the Colts during his second season, Richardson threw for 1,814 yards and eight touchdowns to 12 interceptions, which opened the door to Jones becoming the starter in 2025. Now, with the Richardson set to be the backup for Jones next season, the time is now for the Browns to make a move. The 23-year-old quarterback may not have an impressive resume in the NFL, but his rare athletic ability makes him an intriguing dart throw for newly-hired head coach Todd Monken. The former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator has experience coaching a dual-threat quarterback in Lamar Jackson, and for a Day Three pick, Richardson is the perfect quarterback to gamble on this offseason. This article originally appeared on Browns Wire: Browns must consider trading for former first-round QB this offseason
