🚨 Český závodník Roman Staněk nastoupí tento víkend v Abu Dhabi do závěrečného kola sezony Formule 2. Otázkou zůstává, zda to pro něj bude poslední start v této kategorii. Před týdnem v Kataru promluvil Jan Šťovíček, prezident Autoklubu ČR a zároveň manažer Romana Staňka, o budoucnosti svého svěřence. Prioritou byl post rezervního pilota u týmu Formule 1, v hře byly McLaren, Haas i Williams. McLaren však tento týden představil své rezervní jezdce, takže se tato možnost uzavírá. Pro Staňka tak zůstávají na stole dvě hlavní varianty. Jednou z možností je pokračování ve Formuli 2, byť tým Prema již má plnou jezdeckou sestavu pro příští sezonu. Věříme však, že Roman najde místo u některého z dalších týmů. Druhou variantou je přesun do japonské Super Formule, série rychlejší než F2, kterou si chválí i řada jezdců z F1. V Abu Dhabi čeká Staňka důležitý úkol. Český pilot vypadl z nejlepší desítky v celkovém pořadí šampionátu a potřebuje získat cenné body pro budoucí super licenci. World class grid for the FIA GT World Cup! From 13-16 November, one of the highlight events on the motorsport calender - Macau Grand Prix will take place in its 72nd edition. Of the various classes taking part, FIA-GT3 Is one of the headliners via the eighth running of the FIA GT World Cup. The race will see 16 entries from six manufacturers and will also be the first FIA GT World Cup that will use torque sensors, joining the ACO and IMSA in competitions running the component. Defending FIA GT World Cup race winner Maro Engel won't be returning alongside Mercedes-AMG, leaving this year's event up for grabs for any of the capable and brave drivers able to conquer Macau. Among this list who finished third last year is Team WRT's Sheldon van der Linde. Oh so close last year but could that change this weekend? He'll face tough competition from fellow BMW factory driver, Rowe Racing's Raffaele Marciello. Ferrari meanwhile has three cars, a single entry from AF Corse for Antonio Fuoco, a Winhere Motorsports entry for Deng Yi and a single car from Harmony Racing for Yifei Ye. Porsche have the most with five entries with Tempo by Absolute Racing, Phantom Global Racing's and Schumacher CLRT all entering cars for the likes of Laurens Vanthoor, Alessio Picariello, Dorian Boccolacci, Laurin Heinrich and Ayhancan Guven. Audi meanwhile has three via Audi Sport Asia Team Phantom and Uno Racing Team, entering Christopher Haase, Joel Eriksson and Adderly Fong. Today we also remember Gil de Ferran, born on this day in 1967. Gil was a double IndyCar Champion, Indianapolis 500 winner & British F3 champion. The Paris-born Brazilian began karting in the 1980s before moving to British Formula Ford in 1987. By 1991 he had joined Edenbridge Racing in British F3 and impressively took 3rd overall behind countryman Rubens Barrichello, and David Coulthard He switched to Paul Stewart Racing for 1992 & won the championship after 7 wins & 7 podiums ahead of Philippe Adams. Two years in F3000 brought 4th & 3rd in 1993 & 1994, earning Gil a test with the Footwork F1 team - a test compromised by a badly cut head after walking into a motorhome door. There was a later test with Williams but Gil opted to move Stateside in the CART series in 1995 with Hall/VDS Racing for what would be the first of 9 years. He took a first win in Las Vegas in 1995 having taken a first podium in Vancouver the week before, then won the opening race of 1996. Three years with Walker racing brought another win in Portland before a big move came in 2000, to Team Penske with whom Gil spent 5 seasons. 7 podiums (2 wins) in 16 races saw him win the now-IndyCar title, secured with 3rd at Fontana. He added a 2nd consecutive title in 2001, finishing runner up in Indy 500 - two years later he went one better, winning the great race from team-mate Helio Castroneves. In 2000 de Ferran set a closed circuit lap record at the California Speedway - an AVERAGE of 241.428 mph In all he won 12 of his 160 CART/IndyCar races. Gil also ran & raced teams in IMSA & IndyCar, and was Sporting Director at BAR Honda, McLaren and more. He sadly left us in December 2023 following a suspected heart attack while racing alongside his son in a private event in Florida - he was just 56. On this day 32 years ago the F1 world saw a familiar occurrence, an occurrence that had happened 40 times before. Little did the world know the 41st time would be the last. On November 7th 1993 the great Ayrton Senna won a Grand Prix for the final time. It was also the last time he finished a GP, took a podium and scored an F1 point. The Drivers Titles had already been secured by Williams' Alain Prost who was driving in his final GP. His seat in the team would be taken by Senna, who had one more race with McLaren in the season closer at and ahead he took his first pole position of the season, breaking a run of 24 consecutive poles for Williams. He was joined on Row 1 by Prost ahead of Damon Hill & Michael Schumacher, but the race only got underway at the 3rd attempt. First Martin Brundle was left on the grid in his "art car" Ligier before Ukyo Katayama stalled his Tyrrell. Then Eddie Irvine stalled his Jordan after missing his grid box - he and Katayama were sent to the back as the race finally began. Senna eased into the lead early on, maintaining a gap and then extending it through the stops, after which he emerged with a healthy advantage after retirements for Johnny Herbert, Mika Häkkinen, Schumacher & Irvine early on. Hill & Prost tussled for 2nd with Hill attempting a pass on lap 61, a move that was blocked by Prost and caused Hill to spin - he dropped back but maintained his position. Senna took a 9-second win from Prost with Hill a distant 3rd, while the Ferrari's of Jean Alesi & Gerhard Berger were a lap down ahead of Brundle who recovered to take a point in 6th. Riccardo Patrese (8th) & Derek Warwick (10th) both retired from F1 after this race, Patrese having competed in a then-record 256 Grands Prix. After Prost & Hill joined Senna on the top step in an easing of tensions in a famous rivalry, a Tina Turner concert provided the traditional post-race entertainment - during Senna joined Turner on stage. despite having already played the song, she dedicated a 2nd rendition of "Simply The Best" to the Brazilian. None of knew how poignant it would be just 6 months later... 🇦🇺🇧🇷
