SPORTS.YAHOO.COMRising star Moses Itauma to face biggest test yet against Filip Hrgovic in heavyweight showdownRising heavyweight star Moses Itauma will have a chance to prove he belongs at the world level when he steps up to face top-10 contender Filip Hrgovic on Aug. 29 at London's O2 Arena, Queensberry Promotions announced Friday.Itauma vs. Hrgovic will stream on DAZN pay-per-view and will also be available as part of the DAZN Ultimate subscription.Hrgovic called out Itauma after his three-round demolition job of Dave Allen this past May in Doncaster."Moses never reached the promised land," the Croatian said using a biblical analogy. "I want to fight with anyone in the division, Moses, anyone."Itauma (14-0, 12 KOs) was last in action in March when he impressively knocked out American gatekeeper Jermaine Franklin in five rounds at the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester. Franklin had extended Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte the 12-round distance in previous years, with some believing he got the better of Whyte in 2022. Itauma, on the other hand, knocked out Whyte in the opening round this past August in Saudi Arabia.Hrgovic (20-1, 15 KOs) scored the best win of his career, a contentious decision over Zhilei Zhang in August 2022, to become mandatory for the IBF heavyweight title. The 2016 Olympic medalist, however, suffered defeat three fights later when he succumbed to Daniel Dubois for the interim championship.Since then, Hrgovic has won three fights in a row, all against British opposition. He began his comeback by outpointing Joe Joyce in April 2025. Hrgovic then defeated David Adeleye in August of that year, before making quick work of Allen this past May in Doncaster. If Itauma beats Hrgovic in August, his promoter, Frank Warren, has floated the idea of pitting him against the victor of the soon-to-be-announced rematch between Daniel Dubois and Fabio Wardley for the WBO heavyweight title next year.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 27 Views 0 voorbeeld

WWW.KSAT.COMWyndham Clark builds early 4-shot lead at US Open with lowest 36-hole score at ShinnecockWyndham Clark keeps leaving his mark on Shinnecock Hills, completing the lowest first round in a U.S. Open on this course Friday morning and setting a 36-hole standard in the early afternoon to build a four-shot lead over the early starters. With so much chaos around him, Clark played a steady hand a far cry from where he was at the U.S. Open last year when he missed the cut and smashed up a locker at storied Oakmont. His last act was a 35-foot putt down the slope on the 18th green that dropped for a 1-under 69. That put him at 7-under 133, one shot better than Phil Mickelson and Shigeki Maruyama at the halfway point in 2004 at Shinnecock Hills. And he thinks he could be better.I really felt like I could be in double digits (under par), Clark said. But you know, the great thing about that is I didnt feel like I had my best, and I still am leading as of right now. Hopefully, I can bring my A-game on the weekend.Xander Schauffele, with the best U.S. Open record of anyone without a U.S. Open title over the last 10 years, had a 66 to finish at 137 along with Matt Fitzpatrick, a former U.S. Open champion who birdied two of his last three holes to salvage a 70.The most remarkable day belonged to Joaquin Niemann. He made a 9 on No. 6 his 15th and final hole of the fog-delayed first round that was halted by darkness only for it to become an 11 when the USGA penalized two shots for bad behavior.Niemann hit two drives that were lost, chopped his way up the fairway and finally lost it by heaving his club. The majors are cracking down on behavior this year the Masters was the first to use the policy this year and the USGA deemed it serious enough to skip the warning and go straight to the harsh two-shot penalty.Niemann headed out for his second round, made five birdies in six holes and shot 65 to easily get inside the cut line. It was the first time in 97 years at the U.S. Open someone made 10 or worse in a U.S. Open and still make the cut.All the frustration that came inside me and had my club in my hand, and I couldnt resist to throw it away, Niemann said. There was no people, obviously. No one there. Im not proud of it, but yeah, sometimes all the expectation of trying to play well and things doesnt go your way, you get frustrated. And that was me there.Dustin Johnson managed to keep his head during a meltdown on the back nine. Johnson, in his final year of U.S. Open exemptions from winning at Oakmont in 2016, was one shot behind Clark as they headed to the tee at the par-3 11th. He was 11 shots behind when they reached the 16th.Johnson went from one bunker to the next for a double bogey on the 11th. And then on the 15th, he went from the front right bunker to the front left bunker, left it in that bunker, blasted it over the green, chipped on and took two putts for a quadruple-bogey 8.He attributed it to rocks in the sand. But he made birdie on the 16th and was likely to make the cut.Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy took their turns in the afternoon. The wind wasn't as strong as Thursday, and while the course was still relatively soft by U.S. Open standards greens were being sprayed in the early morning the sun was out and the afternoon figured to be a strong test.It was a long day for Clark and the other finishers because they had to return at 6:35 a.m. to resume the first round 10 hours after they walked off the course.Clark finished with two pars for a 64, the lowest start ever for a U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills, and had a two-shot lead. He doubled that, and then waited to see if anyone could make a run at him.He was on a heater coming into Shinnecock Hills, winning The CJ Cup Byron Nelson with a 60 in the final round, contending in the Memorial and the Canadian Open the last two weeks. Frustration peaked a year ago at Oakmont and in the months that followed. Now, he appears to be more comfortable with each day.Schauffele has seven top 10s in his nine U.S. Open appearances, a Californian who keeps his cool even amid a tough test. Its a brutal week, Schauffele said. Everyone watching at home wants to see guys shooting in the 80s and doing crazy things. I get it. You know, its once a year you get to see some carnage, and its at a U.S. Open. Try to embrace it as much as you can.___AP golf: https://apnews.com/hub/golf0 Reacties 0 aandelen 73 Views 0 voorbeeld -
WWW.GBNEWS.COMFormer Masters champion suffers horror show at US Open hitting ball into bunker three times on one holeFormer Masters champion Dustin Johnson suffered a horror show at the US Open, taking three shots to get out of a bunker and recording a quadruple bogey on hole 15 at Shinnecock Hills. Johnson scored an impressive first round and pulled into one shot of the lead on 10 but fell apart in the back nine, with 15 proving costly.Johnson tried to take the pin on with his first shot from the bunker but did not appreciate the green sloping left, which caused his ball to trickle back into the bunker. He left his second shot way too short, with his ball falling virtually back at his feet.TRENDINGStoriesVideosYour SayTaking his third shot out of the bunker, Johnson got well underneath the ball, sending it flying past the pin and off the green. The American eventually took an eight on the par four, recording a quadruple bogey.Groans were heard from the crowd watching the collapse as Johnson recorded a score of 78, moving to four over par, which should be enough to see him through to the weekend.Wyndham Clark has been the standout performer over the first couple of days in the US Open, heading into the weekend seven-under-par.LATEST SPORTS NEWSPremier League fixtures in full as Coventry and Hull handed tough starts to new seasonJack Draper confirms return to tennis as Andy Murray prepares to be in Briton's cornerGary Neville forced to deny agenda against England star after World Cup win over CroatiaSpeaking after his second round of 69, Clark told Sky Sports: "I've just hit a lot of quality shots, and when I've got into trouble, just put it back into position and made some big par saves and then some nice long ones."It's been very kind of boring golf right now, which is really nice and good at a US Open."Speaking about what he needs to do for the weekend: "I'm going to have to clean up a little bit with a couple of putts. "I didn't really make too many putts from eight to 15 feet. And then I started to lose my driver a little bit. "If I can hit it in the fairway, I can be pretty deadly, so I'm going to go and work on that."And then patience. It's the US Open, you're going to get bad lies or some bad breaks. You've just got to handle it and move forward."Matt Fitzpatrick, who won the US Open in 2022, is in contention for the weekend, finishing on three-under-par over the first 36 holes.Speaking after his second round, he said: "Obviously two (birdies) in the last three always nice, especially at a US Open.I just didn't really feel like I made too much up until those two holes really. Struggled a little bit off the tee on the back nine, but overall scrambled incredibly well to be where I am."On how he plans to reel in Clark, he said: "You've always got one eye on where you are on the leaderboard. I do, anyway. So, for me, I want to figure out where I'm at and whether things need to change."For the most part at a US Open, it's not like you can go flag hunting. I will say some of these greens with where they have to put the pins, you have a little bit more of a chance because most of them have to be pretty central just because of how slopy the greens are."There's obviously some of that that I'll take into account, but for the most part trying to play my same game, and you know, hopefully make a few putts from distance and see where it ends up."Our Standards: The GB News Editorial Charter0 Reacties 0 aandelen 74 Views 0 voorbeeld -
