SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDuke-Michigan basketball game canceled for 2026 amid media rights disputeDuke and Michigan's non-conference men's basketball matchup, previously scheduled for Dec. 21, has been canceled, according to multiplereports on Friday, July 24.The two powerhouse programs had originally agreed to play at Madison Square Garden in New York City before trying to move the game to the Miami Marlins' stadium. Neither team could come to an agreement, according to the reports, and Duke will now play Texas Tech at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 21 instead.A request for comment by USA TODAY Sports to Duke and Michigan was not immediately returned at the time of publication.REQUIRED READING: Duke-Michigan basketball game up in the air over broadcast rightsDuke originally negotiated a three-game TV deal with Amazon Prime Video in April after the game had been scheduled. That complicated the matchup for Michigan, as the Big Ten has a broadcast partnership with Fox. The Big Ten believed Michigan should receive a cut of the revenue for the game with Madison Square Garden being in the conference's TV footprint."Hopefully it'll be resolved," Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel said at Big Ten spring meetings in May. "It's a great college basketball game, given who we are, who they are in college basketball. I love the opportunity to play them, but we just have to make sure everything was right."Duke and Michigan played each other last season, ending in a 68-63 win by the Blue Devils in Washington, D.C., over the eventual national champions. That game was a part of a separate game not broadcast by Amazon Prime Video, but was rather displayed on ESPN.UCLA coach Mick Cronin said there was no shot the game would be played when asked at Big Ten spring meetings."No chance it goes through," he said. "Not when Fox has paid hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars for the rights."Former Michigan coach Dusty May has also since left the Wolverines for the NBA's Dallas Mavericks, which also could've played a role in the game being canceled. Michigan has since elevated assistant coach Mike Boynton Jr. to full-time head coach after previously appointing him as its interim coach. Both Duke and Michigan are expected to be among the top teams in the country next season, as both return talented rosters from runs to the Elite Eight or beyond in 2025.This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: Duke-Michigan basketball game canceled for 2026 amid media rights dispute0 Comments 0 Shares 45 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDuke-Michigan game canceled, ending bizarre rights sagaCredit: Reuters ConnectThe highly-anticipated college basketball matchup between the Duke Blue Devils and Michigan Wolverines has been the subject of a bizarre series of chess moves. But now both sides have agreed to resignation as the game has been canceled.According to ESPN college basketball reporter Jeff Borzello, the game is now off after what had been a roller coaster ride of venue changes and a battle between the conferences and their rights partners.Instead of playing Michigan at the Miami Marlins stadium on December 21, Duke will now return to their home away from home at Madison Square Garden in New York City to face off against Texas Tech.NEWS: The Dec. 21 game between Duke and Michigan is OFF, sources told ESPN. Originally scheduled for MSG, then attempted to move to the Miami Marlins stadium, but all parties couldnt come to a final agreement.Duke now slated to face Texas Tech at MSG on Dec. 21, per sources. pic.twitter.com/5aDzlIByxe Jeff Borzello (@jeffborzello) July 24, 2026The drama all started back in April when Amazon announced an exclusive deal to broadcast three non-conference Duke games including a mouth-watering matchup with the defending national champions at MSG on December 21. While Duke and Amazon had approval from the ACC and ESPN to move forward with the planned package of games, the Big Ten cried foul over the Michigan game at MSG.The Big Ten and Fox Sports claimed they had rights to the game based upon a prior agreement covering states with conference teams and those adjacent, which would cover New York City. Who says Rutgers never did anything for the Big Ten? When Duke and Michigan squared off in Washington D.C. last season, it came as part of a deal that saw a Duke-Illinois game air on Fox. That led to the bizarre scenario of moving the game to Florida at the Miami Marlins baseball stadium to avoid the conflicts. But apparently the ACC, Big Ten, ESPN, Amazon, and Fox Sports could ultimately not find an agreement that would suit all parties to allow the game to go ahead as scheduled. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMPatriots' explosive playmaker named top five 2026 breakout candidateIs a big year on the horizon for New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson in 2026?According to Bleacher Reports Gary Davenport, Henderson is one of five running backs best positioned to have a breakout year in the upcoming season."Henderson's struggles in pass protection and as a receiver out of the backfield led to the Ohio State product spending most of the season playing second fiddle to Rhamondre Stevenson," Davenport wrote. "...As Henderson improves as a player, he's going to earn a larger share of the backfield work in New England. And if that larger share comes sooner rather than later, look out."Rhamondre Stevenson is a threat to Henderson receiving a much larger workload in 2026, as the former is a proven 1,000-yard rusher who played well when on the field last season. The Patriots two-back system will likely enable Henderson to get more carries, but it will also cap him at a certain point, barring an injury to Stevenson.Nevertheless, it is well within reason to expect Henderson to improve as a ball-carrier, which may lead to an increase in his numbers, and as a result, lift him toward a 1,000-yard season of his own on the ground in 2026, after he came close with 911 rushing yards in 2025. That makes him a player to watch intently from Week 1 to Week 17 and beyond if the opportunity presents itself.Follow Patriots Wire onTwitterandFacebook. This article originally appeared on Patriots Wire: Patriots' explosive playmaker named top five 2026 breakout candidate0 Comments 0 Shares 61 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMTransfer Roundup: Where Borussia Dortmund Stands after the World CupWelcome back to club soccer, everyone! After 104 World Cup matches, club soccer is officially back on the menu. 48 teams competed, 11 Dortmund players featured for their national teams, 3 taxidermy animals were brought to Norway, 1 team won the whole thing, and 1 team crashed out 4-1 in front of a home crowd after their president strong-armed a very corruptible FIFA into rescinding a red card. Yes, Im still upset about that. Well be slowly building up to the 2026/27 season here on Fear the World but first its important to see where team stands three weeks into the Summer Transfer Window. Here are the ins, the outs, and the rumors of Dortmunds 2026 window so far!The InsJoane GadouEveryone knows if you want win silverware, you need a French defender on your team just ask Aymeric Laporte! With Niklas Sle leaving the club and Nico Schlotterbecks increasingly frequent injuries, Dortmund went out and signed 19-year-old center-back, Joane Gadou, from Red Bull Salzburg for roughly $22 million. Gadou will likely be Dortmunds fourth choice center-back behind Schlotterbeck, Waldermar Anton, and Rami Bensebaini but has a chance to prove himself early in the season after Schlotterbecks World Cup injury. Gadou is a highly touted star from PSGs youth ranks who made a name for himself across two seasons in Salzburg. Hes physically dominant and has been described as further ahead at this age than Dayot Upamecano was back then. Hopefully well see Gadou grow into the next French phenom during his time at Dortmund. His contract runs until 2031.Justin LermaBorussia Dortmund first announced Justin Lerma in May of 2024. After turning 18 in May, the Ecuadorian midfielder finally joins from Independiente Del Valle. Touted as a high potential player, Lerma is an explosive midfielder who likes to take shots, dribble in midfield and float on the edge of the box. Hes still got a ton of developing to do but expect him to get rotational minutes this season after sealing his first goal in preseason. Kau PratesAcross last season, Daniel Svensson played 2,452 minutes across 33 matches. This was not only because hes a good player but also because Dortmund lack any depth at left-back. Thats where Kau Prates comes in. The 17-year-old Prates is a Brazilian left-back joining from Cruzeiro for around $7 million. Prates likes to play wide, cross the ball, and defend one-on-one. Former Cruzeiro coach (and Mbappes coach at Monac0), Leonardo Jardim, described Prates as a balanced full-back that all coaches like. He is good at set pieces and has both defensive and offensive qualities. I like the sound of that! At 17, Prates is one for the future. Expect him to get rotation minutes, push for Svenssons spot, and hopefully develop into a great player at Dortmund.Takato YamamotoLook, Takato Yamamoto is probably a player for the reserve team this season but by all accounts Ive heard this guy is a baller. The 18-year-old Japanese midfielder joined from Gamba Osaka in the J League on a one-year loan and is highly thought of within his home country. Hell join Borussia Dortmund across their preseason tour in Asia and, if he does well, could make a name for himself heading into the season. Definitely a player to watch considering Dortmunds lack of depth in midfield. After scoring in Dortmunds opening friendly, Kovac said the following:Well look forward to working with him. For now, certaintly with the reserve team, but that doesnt mean the door to the first team is closed. On the contrary, its open, and well be keeping an eye on himDortmund holds a $1.7 million buy option for Yamamoto. The OutsKarim AdeyemiAfter four years in Dortmund, Adeyemi is moving to Barcelona for a $25 million fee and 35% sell-on clause. The 24-year-old forward only had one year left on his deal and wanted the move to Catalonia so there was little the club could do to retain Adeyemi. Across 1,196 league minutes, Adeyemi notched 7 goals and 4 assists. The speedster has been an inconsistent player across is career in Dortmund and often found himself behind Maximilian Beier this season. Adeyemis departure appears to be one of the big dominos to fall before Dortmund can make further signings this summer so we should expect some movement soon. Additionally, Adeyemis deal is rumored to have around $8 million in conditional payments that should flow to Dortmund over the next couple of seasons. Good luck in Barcelona, Adeyemi!Julian BrandtAfter 7 years in Dortmund, Julian Brandt is a free agent and looking for a new club. Brandts departure was announced back in March and is the biggest hole Dortmund face going into the new season. Brandt was third on goals (7), fourth on goals + assists (11), and played 1,607 minutes across 29 matches. He was an important catalyst across some of Dortmunds biggest moments this season and now the club has to replace him. Carney Chukwuemeka, Justin Lerma, Takato Yamamoto, or even some of Dortmunds rumored signings will all be competing for Brandts minutes. If one of them fail to step up, Dortmund will have to find new ways to create chances. Salih zcanAfter several years in Dortmund, Salih zcan is leaving the club. zcan was a tireless midfielder but ultimately a depth option with only 73 Bundesliga minutes who was brought back from loan. Hell be plying his trade for Bestikas after leaving Dortmund on a free transfer.Niklas SleAfter health issues marred Niklas Sles time at Borussia Dortmund, the 30-year-old announced his retirement from professional football. Hell be playing for amateur team, SV Tiefenbach, going forward. Ill let him tell you about the move:Two of my best friends play for SV Tiefenbach, and one of them is even the coach. After 13 years in professional football, its an absolute gift to share the pitch with my mates again and simply enjoy this wonderful sport to the fullest.Frankly, thats awesome best of luck to Sle!Cole Campbell20-year-old Cole Campbell is departing the club for SV Elversberg, Ole Books old club. The American-Icelandic winger leaves Dortmund after spending last season on loan with Hoffenheim. Hes played in only five Bundesliga games for either Hoffenheim or Dortmund across the past three years. Dortmund earn $7m from the sale.Kjell WtjenDortmunds local wunderkid is leaving the club after joining the youth ranks at 9-years-old. Wtjen spent last season on loan with Bochum in the 2. Bundesliga and has now been transfered to Danish side, FC Midtjylland. The 20-year-old impressed for Dortmunds reserve team but never made a name for himself with the first team after only four appearances. Hell be playing under his former coach, Mike Tullberg, and be competing against former teammate, Youssoufa Moukoko, for the Superligaen title. The RumorsNico Schlotterbeck and Serhou Guirassy are StayingTwo of the biggest questions marks entering this offseason were Nico Schlotterbeck and Serhou Guirassys futures in Dortmund. After signing a contract extension in April, Schlotterbeck has a release clause that certain clubs could trigger for a realistic amount. Guirassy has a similar clause in his contract. Those clauses, however, expired on July 15 and we can expect both key players to stay in Dortmund. Nico Schlottereck is out with a ligament injury that will keep him sidelines until mid-September while Guirassy has already joined Dortmunds preseason camp. There is still a chance that Guirassy leaves this summer but Dortmund will now be in control of his future. Konstantinos Karestsas is Dortmunds Primary Transfer TargetWith a need to replace Julian Brandt and Karim Adeyemi, Dortmund are lookin to Genks Konstantinos Karestsas as their replacement. The 18-year-old Greek international has featured regularly for Genks first team across the past two seasons. Last year, he took the step up and notched 10 assists in the Belgian Pro league and 4 more in the Europea league. Karestsas plays as a either out wide or behind the forward as Genks primary playmaker. He was only behind fellow Greek international and Arsenal-bound Christos Tzolis in the leagues assist charts. If he does come to Dortmund, expect to see a technically-gifted dribbler who excels under pressure.Signing Karestsas, however, will not be easy but Dortmund are in pole position. Ole Book and Lars Ricken completed their own Odyssey by traveling to Genk to broker the deal themselves. Both partys left the meeting confident that a deal could be reached in the coming weeks and we can expect the figure to hover between $30-35 million. The Belgian Pro Leagues top goalscorer, Nicolo Tresoldi, has also been linked with a move to Dortmund. This move seems far less likely with the 20-year-old striker seemingly set to join Roma. Dortmund, however, are apparently interested and Tresoldi was likely seen as a Guirassy replacement. With Guirassy staying in Dortmund and Tresoldis upbringing in Italy, I dont expect this move to go through. The Eternal Jadon Sancho RumorSince leaving Dortmund five years ago, Jadon Sancho has been linked to a return to Dortmund. Every. Single. Window. The 26-year-old spent 5 months on loan here in 2024 and is now a free agent after spending the past season on loan at Aston Villa. Across 873 Premier League minutes for the Villans, Sancho notched only two goals. A look at his underlying numbers, however, reveals a useful player. Sanchos end product, something he excelled at in Dortmund six years ago, has dropped off a cliff but his progression and creation numbers are still fairly elite. Many clubs will be circling Sancho but, as always, he could join Dortmund. Your ThoughtsWhat do you think of Dortmunds transfer window so far? Remember were only three weeks into it! Which signing are you most excited about? Which departure scares you? How mad are you that we havent signed Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland, and Lamine Yamal? Let us know below!0 Comments 0 Shares 95 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMLB insider envisions Phillies could bring back former All-Star relieverMLB insider envisions Phillies could bring back former All-Star reliever originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. With the MLB's trade deadline sitting only 10 days away, teams around the league are set to make their final moves ahead of the closing quarter of the season. This certainly applies to the Philadelphia Phillies, who have several categories they'd like to improve on if they want to make the most of their early-season turnaround, currently sitting 4.5 games back from the Atlanta Braves in the National League East standings, while being in firm control of at least one wild card spot.As previously reported, one of the Phillies' areas for improvement comes in their bullpen, as the National League East contenders have struggled to find themselves a set-up man, which wasn't helped by the untimely injury of Brad Keller, who is expected to miss the remainder of the season due to a torn UCL in his right elbow.Philadelphia could look towards a familiar arm at the deadlineWhile there are certain prospects in Philadelphia's pipeline who could patch the hole left by Keller's absence, most notably Alex McFarlane, MLB insider and USA Today writerBob Nightengale feels the team could look towards the American League East to bring back one of their former bullpen arms at the deadline: Jeff Hoffman."They are in desperate need of a late-inning reliever, and would love to bring back Jeff Hoffman of the Toronto Blue Jays," states Nightengale.Hoffman is in his second season at the Rogers Centre, posting a 4.40 ERA across 43 innings of work and a FIP of 2.66, so he necessarily hasn't been the issue on the mound for Toronto. Prior to his time in the American League, the 33-year-old spent two seasons with Philadelphia, recording 11 saves, 158 strikeouts, and an ERA of 2.28.Hoffman's stellar work in the 2024 season, which saw him post a career-low 2.17 ERA and a SO9 of 12.1, would be enough to see him be handed his first All-Star nod.More MLB news:Cardinals sign JJ Wetherholt to eight-year, $112.5 million contract extensionWhy Astros are trading Lance McCullers to the BrewersMason Miller shares honest thoughts on Yankees trade rumorsRed Sox trade rumor involving All-Star shortstop includes Yankees, BravesBlue Jays could do something crazy and trade for Bo Bichette0 Comments 0 Shares 61 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFantasy Football Video: Will Jaguars RB Bhayshul Tuten take a step forward, break out in 2026?The Jacksonville Jaguars may have the most crowded and confusing offense for fantasy football heading into 2026. We know the receiving corps goes four players deep and then there's TE Brenton Strange. Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2026 NFL seasonAt running back, Travis Etienne Jr. bounced back under Liam Coen last season, but has left for the New Orleans Saints. That leaves second-year RB Bhayshul Tuten, veteran Chris Rodriguez Jr. and LeQuint Allen Jr. as the three backs left to duke it out for carries this season. Tuten showed a lot of promise as a rookie spelling Etienne, rushing 83 times for 307 yards and five TDs while adding 10 catches for 79 yards and two more scores. The consensus is that Tuten should lead the backfield. Matt Harmon and Justin Boone go deeper into the subject on the latest episode of the Yahoo Fantasy Forecast. Boone still believes that Tuten has a lot to prove and isn't the sure-fire RB1 for Jacksonville quite yet. But if we start to hear positive reports out of training camp on Tuten, that should raise his fantasy stock, per Boone. Plus, Rodriguez is dealing with an injury that may hold him out early in camp. If that lingers, it's even better for Tuten's prospects. All of that could lead to Tuten's ADP rising. As of now in early Yahoo drafts, Tuten's going off the board as the RB23. Boone has the Jags' back ranked just below that at RB24 in his July rankings update. The analyst says that ranking could change if Tuten's ADP continues to rise. Harmon wishes nothing but the best for Tuten but states that his price as the RB24 is perfect. Harmon doesn't want his stock to rise up to the RB18-19 range in which the value gets hurt a bit. For that reason, Harmon is still buying Tuten because he's a good breakout candidate for fantasy in 2026.0 Comments 0 Shares 82 Views 0 Reviews
