The package Aston Martin brought to Hungary was never intended to be minor in scope. It ultimately encompassed 16 updated parts, a chassis that required both re-homologation and fresh crash testing, a heavily reworked aeroconcept, and huge reductions in weight applied to both the Alonso and Stroll machinery. The teams mechanics worked past the FIA-mandated curfew to have both cars ready, according to RacingNews365. Aston Martin wasnt treating this as a routine update.Adrian Newey is treating it as a starting gun. The package looks promising, but its very early to say, he said following FP1. This is only the beginning of the package. More updates are coming in Zandvoort, Monza and Baku.Whats Actually in the Car, and Whats Still ComingNewey described the Hungary package to Formula1.com as a new nose and substantially revised aerodynamic surfaces coupled with weight reduction significant enough to require fresh crash testing though the chassis and gearbox architecture remain fundamentally intact. Rear suspension has been lightly revised; front suspension carries over. The upgrade is aerodynamic in character, not structural from the ground up.The next wave is more consequential. F1 journalist Chris Medland has put a figure on what Aston Martin could gain once the aerodynamic improvements are paired with the Honda power unit upgrade Newey has confirmed for Zandvoort roughly two seconds per lap, rising to as much as 2.5 seconds in the most optimistic projection. Even closing that two-second gap would have fallen short at Spa-Francorchamps, where Alonso and Stroll trailed the Q1 cutoff by more than four seconds, as Medland pointed out. The deficit Aston Martin accumulated in the first half of 2026 is that severe.Newey has been fairly open about how the team got here.
