Ottawa also ranked eighth in the NHL in goals scored, making the loss of one of its top offensive players even more significant.During a recent discussion on The Sick Podcast, McGuire said Ottawas power play could play a major role in helping the team offset the loss of Tkachuks offensive production. He also pointed to the difficult competition awaiting the Senators in the Atlantic Division.I think five teams from the Atlantic are gonna make it. I think three teams from the Metropolitan are gonna make it. And I think two of them are already established unless they get injuries in Carolina and Washington, McGuire said.McGuire believes Ottawa will need to find ways to consistently beat teams such as the Boston Bruins and Detroit Red Wings if it hopes to stay in the playoff race. I dont know if theyre gonna have enough to be offensively to be better than Florida or to be better than Montreal, to be better than Tampa. I just dont know. This is an exercise were gonna find out, he added.However, McGuire also pointed out one of Ottawas biggest strengths from last season. But the one thing that Ottawa did last year that was really good, they were really hard to play against.That identity could become even more important in the post-Tkachuk era.Tkachuk brought more than just goals, points, and physicality to the Senators. He was also one of the teams biggest emotional leaders, and Ottawa will now need others to step up and fill that role.Staios, however, has indicated that the Senators may not be finished making moves. We feel good about the work that weve done. The package Aston Martin brought to Hungary was never intended to be minor in scope. It ultimately encompassed 16 updated parts, a chassis that required both re-homologation and fresh crash testing, a heavily reworked aeroconcept, and huge reductions in weight applied to both the Alonso and Stroll machinery. The teams mechanics worked past the FIA-mandated curfew to have both cars ready, according to RacingNews365. Aston Martin wasnt treating this as a routine update.Adrian Newey is treating it as a starting gun. The package looks promising, but its very early to say, he said following FP1. This is only the beginning of the package. More updates are coming in Zandvoort, Monza and Baku.Whats Actually in the Car, and Whats Still ComingNewey described the Hungary package to Formula1.com as a new nose and substantially revised aerodynamic surfaces coupled with weight reduction significant enough to require fresh crash testing though the chassis and gearbox architecture remain fundamentally intact. Rear suspension has been lightly revised; front suspension carries over. The upgrade is aerodynamic in character, not structural from the ground up.The next wave is more consequential. F1 journalist Chris Medland has put a figure on what Aston Martin could gain once the aerodynamic improvements are paired with the Honda power unit upgrade Newey has confirmed for Zandvoort roughly two seconds per lap, rising to as much as 2.5 seconds in the most optimistic projection. Even closing that two-second gap would have fallen short at Spa-Francorchamps, where Alonso and Stroll trailed the Q1 cutoff by more than four seconds, as Medland pointed out. The deficit Aston Martin accumulated in the first half of 2026 is that severe.Newey has been fairly open about how the team got here. Development of the AMR26 only got underway in mid-March 2025, with the car not entering the wind tunnel until mid-April leaving Aston Martin significantly behind rival teams in terms of preparation time. The teams immediate standings may be secondary to the bigger picture: arriving at 2027 as a credible title contender, an ambition from Newey, a 200 million factory at Silverstone, and the forthcoming Honda power unit deal.
