Gymnast Ward goes from Glasgow dreamer to gold medallist
[Reuters]Twelve years ago, wee Reuben Ward watched wide-eyed as Dan Keatings won gymnastics gold for Scotland in Glasgow. That was the day he began dreaming. In his nine-year-old mind, the notion of competing in the Commonwealth Games for Scotland began to form. Not winning gold. Not even being on a podium. Just pulling on the vest and getting out there. So when the 21-year-old took the acclaim of an ecstatic Emirates Arena crowd after being announced as the Glasgow 2026 all-around champion, it was all he had ever dreamed of and so much more.Ward - whose parents Brendan and Lisa left East Kilbride for Bury before he was born - had just become the country's third gold medallist on day three of the Games."I remember seeing him win and seeing how it was a big deal to people and I thought 'I want to do that'," Ward told BBC Sport Scotland, recalling Keating's success while in the afterglow of his own. "So to be here now, having done it myself, is spectacular. It's such a full-circle moment. Glasgow and East Kilbride have been like second homes to me my entire life so to do it here is incredibly special."Scott overcomes pressure and big pal Dean to give Scotland golden startWhy is it so special to be part of Team Scotland? All the latest news from Scotland at the Games'I'm just so overwhelmed, man'There was a sense beforehand that Ward could contend here. A bronze maybe. Perhaps even a silver depending how things go. His team-mates privately made noises that, should everything fall in his favour, gold could be within reach. They had seen him in training, and performed alongside him in the team event on Friday, where Scotland finished fourth. They knew he was in a good place.Ward sat seventh after the floor exercise, but streaked into the lead after a splendid performance on the pommel - routinely his strongest event. He retained that advantage after the rings - by which point assorted Team Scotland officials and members of the Scottish media had arrived in dribs and drabs, with the sniff of a gold in the air.Ward's vault had been compromised in the team event by a slight issue in his run up - he had to adapt it on the fly and could only execute two twists - but he nailed it this time, performing three to go into the final two rotations top of the standings.A strong showing in the parallel bars - and a judicious Team Scotland appeal to add an extra 0.100 - maintained his lead at 0.550, meaning he needed to keep his shape in the horizontal bar to clinch gold.Ward did that and more. As he stuck his landing, his coach Jake Seager fell to his knees celebrating before the two embraced. It wasn't official yet, but they knew."I like to imagine the best scenario possible and that was winning," added Ward when asked what he was thinking as his head hit the pillow on Saturday night."It kept me awake a little bit because I was picturing it and feeling the emotions. But this beat the expectations by a mile. "Falling short on Friday was heart-breaking and I'm just so overwhelmed, man. I can barely put words together."It could get even better. He goes in the floor, rings and pommel on Monday, and is a real medal contender in the later. His celebrations will have to wait for now, but by Tuesday, Ward could well be getting up to all sorts of capers in Glasgow with his Scotland team-mates."Tonight looks like eating hotel food and probably getting a pretty bad night's sleep," he said. "Then I'll come in tomorrow, and try to relax and hit my routine. "On Tuesday, after the competition, I'll celebrate big time with the team, with my boys. I love them so much and them coming to see me at the end when I was going around of the arena was special."I'm hoping we'll get to experience a bit of Glasgow.. "

Pistons Proposed to Trade Jalen Duren in New 3-Team Deal for $180 Million Star
CLEVELAND, OHIO - MAY 09: Jalen Duren #0 of the Detroit Pistons waits during the fourth quarter of Game Three of the Second Round of the NBA Eastern Conference Playoffs against the Cleveland Cavaliers at Rocket Arena on May 09, 2026 in Cleveland, Ohio. GettyThe Detroit Pistons and Jalen Duren are currently at an impasse over a new lucrative deal for the young center. Surprisingly, it has taken this deep into the offseason despite strong indications that an agreement would be reached.Duren is qualified for a max deal after an All-NBA selection and the Pistons want to keep him, but their valuation is viewed as off the requested amount by his camp. According to FanSideds Christopher Kline, this situation has been dragging on with no resolution yet. While the Detroit Pistons, in theory, maintain total leverage over the situation, there is clearly a wide gap between what the Pistons are willing to offer and what Duren is willing to accept, Kline wrote. This development may prompt some difficult remedy which in large parts involves moving Duren. Given his free agency status, a sign-and-trade is the only way the Pistons can benefit from his moving. In a proposed trade, the Brooklyn Nets would receive Duren from Detroit. The Pistons would receive Michael Porter Jr. from Brooklyn and Jaylen Wells from the Memphis Grizzlies. The Grizzlies would then receive Terance Mann from Brooklyn and Duncan Robinson from Detroit, as well as a 2027 first-round pick originally belonging to the New York Knicks.Pistons Proposed Move Sends Jalen Duren for Michael Porter Jr.GettyWASHINGTON, DC MARCH 17: Jalen Duren #0 of the Detroit Pistons reacts against the Washington Wizards during the second half at Capital One Arena on March 17, 2026 in Washington, DC. (Photo by Patrick Smith/Getty Images)Duren is a restricted free agent, meaning that the Pistons can match any offer sheet for him. The franchise hopes that it doesnt come to that, but with contract negotiations stalling and limited teams able to take him in their cap at the moment, a decision would have to be made soon.Durens max deal could reach up to $287 million and while his camp isnt requesting that huge sum, their demand hasnt been met by the Pistons. It could be met by the Nets. According to Kline, Brooklyn has less incentive to tank moving forward, which makes Durens deal worth their while. That said, if the Knicks 2027 first-round pick (in a weak draft class) is all it takes to get off of Terance Manns bad money and turn Michael Porter Jr.s expiring contract into a five-year window with Duren, that ought to appeal to Sean Marks, Kline added.Porter Jr. is on an expiring deal at $40.8 million for 2026-27. This could be doable for the Pistons rather than taking something in that range for Duren over five years.Weighing a Potential Hit or Miss Wing Addition for Pistons Post DurenWith Porter Jr., the offensive gains are a clear approach for the Pistons to want to engage in this deal. Duren, despite his best efforts, doesnt hit as the most reliable second option to Cade Cunningham. His impressive regular season numbers dropped significantly in the playoffs, which is reportedly why the Pistons are not breaking the bank for his new deal:For Detroit, its a chance to kick the can in contract negotiations down the road a year with Porter, Kline added. The Pistons were a total slog offensively in the playoffs, in large part due to Durens disappearing act. Porter is a lights-out shooter who can help carry the scoring burden next to Cade Cunningham, with Jaylen Wells brought in to backfill Duncan Robinsons role on a much cheaper deal.Porter Jr. has seen an improvement in his production in recent years and was a solid part of the Denver Nuggets 2023 championship run. If the Pistons are going to give up Duren, he is the appropriate piece to be added.Detroit also gets a young piece in Wells in this framework. The forward and shooting guard has been one of the more consistent starters for the Memphis Grizzlies in the past couple of years.Like HEAVY's content?Be sure to follow us.This article was originally published on HEAVYThe post Pistons Proposed to Trade Jalen Duren in New 3-Team Deal for $180 Million Star appeared first on HEAVY.

Where will the Lions offense rank in 2026?
Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff (16), left, talk to offensive coordinator Drew Petzing before practice during mini camp at Meijer Performance Center in Allen Park on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. | Junfu Han / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn ImagesWith Detroit Lions training camp officially opening up this week, its time to fit in some last-minute predictions for the 2026 team.In a lot of ways, this team will likely sink or swim by their offense. When Detroits offense is humming, theyre one of the most dangerous teams in football. When it struggles well, you saw what happened last year. Obviously, if this team plans on making a Super Bowl run, theyll need help from both sides of the ball. However, most weeks their offense is likely going to carry them. So todays Question of the Day is: Where will the Lions offense rank in 2026? My answer: Well, last year felt pretty close to a worst-case scenario, and heres where Detroit ranked in many statistical categories: 6.0 yards per play 3rd28.3 points per game 4th7.4 yards per pass attempt 4th103.6 passer rating 3rd4.6 yards per carry 9th 7th in DVOA9th in EPA per play12th in success rateSo by almost every measure, they were a top-10 offense. But when you get to some of the more revealing, advanced statistics, it was closer to 10th than fifth. The question, to me, isnt whether this will be a top-10 offense. It absolutely should be. The question is will it be a top-five offense? A top-two offense? The best offense? Obviously, the Lions invested in the offensive line with the signing of Cade Mays and the drafting of Blake Miller. Will the completely reformed offensive line be a noticeable improvement out of the gate? Thats hard to say with so many moving parts, including a completely new offensive coordinator. Speaking of which, thats a reason to be hopeful with the Lions offense in 2026. While Drew Petzing certainly doesnt have a spotless resume, hes shown more in the OC role than last years coordinator John Morton. But, again, all of these improvements are theoretical at this point. Not to mention the backfield is almost certainly worse with the trade of David Montgomery. Still, the Lions have a top-10 quarterback, a top-five receiver, a top-five tight end, a top-two running back, and arguably the best offensive tackle in football. I am willing to say with confidence theyll be a top-five offense, but I cant commit to much more than that until I see the offensive line come together and Petzing find some comfort in this offense.Where do you think the Lions will rank in offense in 2026? Vote below and share your thoughts in the comment section.

Seeing Langton healthy made my heart full - Tobin
English team-mates Adam Tobin (left) and Gabriel Langton (right) won silver in the men's team gymnastics final [Getty Images]Gymnast Adam Tobin said it "made his heart full" to see his English team-mate Gabriel Langton healthy and walking after a shocking fall at the Commonwealth Games on Friday.Langton fell three metres to the floor after missing his catch on the horizontal bar in an incident which overshadowed England's silver medal in the men's team gymnastics final. The 19-year-old was cleared of serious injury on Saturday and was back at Glasgow International Arena on Sunday to support Tobin and Luke Whitehouse in the men's all-around final."I think it was a moment for all of us as a team, seeing him walk into that hotel and put the medal over his neck, because we didn't know what was going on after his fall," Tobin told BBC Sport."He left and then we had a job to do. So since then, we didn't really know what was going on. It made my heart full seeing him walk in healthy and getting that medal round his neck, which he deserved."He's back in the team, I heard him in the crowd earlier, so it's just nice to have him back. I'm extremely happy that he's fit and healthy."Tobin narrowly missed out on a bronze medal by just 0.200 points to Australian Jesse Moore in a dramatic men's all-around final.Scotland's Reuben Ward took the gold medal on home soil, while Canadian Felix Dolci's remarkable late comeback earned him silver. But Tobin still has three more attempts to secure another medal in the pommel horse, rings and parallel bars finals."Of course I'm gutted," Tobin added. "It's two tenths away from being on that podium. But I left it all out there."A bit of a tough pill to swallow, but I'm walking away happy. It came down to the fine margins in the end. Too close."Commonwealth Games daily scheduleCommonwealth Games medal table and resultsWhat are the Commonwealth Games?

Lewis Hamiltons Razor-Thin Margin Behind Hungarian GP Penalty, FIA Document Reveals
Lewis Hamiltons furious post-race radio message at the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix makes a lot more sense now. After crossing the finish line, the seven-time world champion vented his absolute frustration with race control to the Ferrari pit wall, exclaiming: Every opportunity that I give those stewards, every single time they give me a penalty! While it was immediately known that Hamilton had been slapped with a 5-second time penalty for speeding in the pit lane during a late Virtual Safety Car (VSC) period, the actual margin of the offense is staggering.Following the conclusion of the grand prix, the FIA released the official penalty documentation for the incident. As detailed in Document 57, the stewards confirmed the precise speed that triggered the sporting sanction.According to the official telemetry, Hamilton was clocked at exactly 80.1 km/h as he navigated the pit lane.Because the pit lane speed limit at the Hungaroring is strictly set at 80 km/h, Hamilton was penalized for exceeding the legal threshold by a microscopic 0.1 km/h. Under Article B1.6.3a.iii of the FIA F1 Regulations, any breach of the pit lane speed limitno matter how marginalcarries an automatic 5-second time penalty.A Frustrating Pattern for HamiltonWhile rules are rules, Hamiltons outburst is entirely justified when looking at the broader context of his 2026 season. This is not the first time the Ferrari driver has been punished for this exact, razor-thin margin.Earlier this year at the Monaco Grand Prix, Hamilton was also handed a 5-second penalty for going exactly 0.1 km/h over the pit lane speed limit. At the time, an exasperated Hamilton publicly called for an investigation into the FIAs timing loops, stating he was shocked by the penalty and insisting he had the pit limiter engaged perfectly. To be bitten by the exact same 0.1 km/h margin just a few months lateron a weekend where he had already suffered a three-place grid drop for impeding in qualifyingexplains exactly why the veteran driver felt like a magnet for the stewards ire in Budapest. The 5-second addition ultimately cemented Hamiltons fifth-place finish, capping off a weekend of intense friction between the Ferrari garage and the FIA.

Paris Saint-Germain seeking more than 50m to sanction a departure for Tottenham target Ibrahim Mbaye
Paris Saint-Germain seeking more than 50m to sanction a departure for Tottenham target Ibrahim MbayeParis Saint-Germain have placed a premium price tag on 18-year-old sensation and Tottenham target Ibrahim Mbaye, warning Europes elite clubs that it will take an offer in excess of 50 million (43m) to sanction his departure from the French capital this summer. Roberto De Zerbi is at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The hefty valuation comes as a host of top clubs prepare to test PSGs resolve. Tottenham Hotspur have placed the explosive winger high on their recruitment radar, but face fierce competition from across Europe. Premier League rivals Liverpool, Manchester City, and Chelsea are all closely monitoring the situation, as are Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen, both of whom have made contact with the players camp.Mbayes desire for a fresh start stems from his appetite for guaranteed first-team football. Having broken into Luis Enriques senior squad to become the youngest starter in PSG history, the versatile forward spent last season largely rotation-bound behind established international stars. His ambition to secure a regular starting role has prompted his representatives to explore a summer exit, despite PSGs preference to retain their prized academy graduate.Regarded as one of the most explosive wide talents in European football, Mbayes profile has soared both domestically and internationally after featuring for Senegal at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.Mbaye is under contract until June 2027, giving PSG considerable leverage in negotiations. The French champions have made it clear to all suitors that they will not consider discounted proposals and will only sanction a sale if their 50 million valuation is met or exceeded. With official inquiries ramping up, the race for Mbayes signature is set to intensify in the coming weeks.
