Fernandes’ 9.5m Image Rights Haul Raises Stakes in United Contract Talks
Fernandes 9.5m Image Rights Haul Raises Stakes in United Contract TalksBruno Fernandes earned over 9 million from image rights during the 2024/25 season, according to accounts filed by his company BF8 Sports a figure that sits on top of his United wages and underlines just how much the club stands to lose commercially if they allow their captain to run into the final months of his contract.According to the Manchester Evening News, BF8 Sports the firm Fernandes founded in 2020, with the Portuguese listed as its only director generated 9.5 million during the period, up 1.1 million on the previous 12 months. The company also cut costs by 44 per cent, reducing its tax and social security bill by over 200,000, leaving net earnings of 9.2 million. That equates to roughly 176,000 per week from image rights alone, on top of the approximately 300,000 per week United pay him in wages.Bruno Fernandes speaks during a Manchester United press conference. It goes without saying that those are numbers that reinforce Fernandes status as one of the most commercially valuable players in English football regardless of how United were performing around him at the time. Follow Stretty News on Google as a preferred source and be first with every United update.A record-breaking season to match the financial numbersThe image-rights windfall did not arrive without on-pitch justification. Fernandes delivered 21 Premier League assists during the 2024/25 campaign the most in a single Premier League season in the competitions history, breaking the previous record of 20 on the final day by teeing up Patrick Dorgu in a 3-0 win over Brighton. He also scored nine league goals, finishing the season with nine goals and 22 assists across all competitions.Bruno Fernandes celebrates after scoring for Manchester United.Source: TransfermarktContract situation makes these numbers matter moreFernandes has entered the final year of the contract he signed two years ago, and negotiations over an extension remain unresolved. Juventus and Galatasaray have been reported as interested parties this summer, with longstanding attention from the Middle East also documented. Uniteds position, per the primary source, is that they believe Fernandes will stay beyond the summer but belief is not a signed contract. The scale of his image-rights income matters here. A player generating 9.5 million annually through a company built on his association with Manchester United has significant commercial incentive to remain at one of the worlds most visible clubs. That calculus cuts both ways for INEOS: it is leverage in renewal talks, but it also signals how much brand equity walks out the door if the deal is not done.Read what Uniteds hierarchy have said publicly about Bruno Fernandes future at the clubWith Casemiro now departed on a free and the midfield undergoing structural change, the uncertainty around Fernandes future is the last thing INEOS needs heading into a Champions League season. Tying down the most productive creative midfielder in the Premier League last season one generating nearly 9.5 million in off-pitch income on the back of his United platform should be the simplest decision of the summer.

Where Would Dayann Mthalie Fit Into Sunderlands Squad?
Toulouse's French defender #24 Dayann Methalie celebrates his team's first goal during the French L1 football match between RC Strasbourg Alsace and Toulouse FC at Stade de la Meinau in Strasbourg on May 3, 2026. (Photo by SEBASTIEN BOZON / AFP via Getty Images) | AFP via Getty ImagesFollowing several reports from reputable journalists no Fabrizio Romano needed here including Fabrice Hawkins and Sacha Tavolieri, all signs are pointing towards Sunderland making their second signing of the summer in a reported 30 million (25.6 million) move to bring the young Frenchman to Wearside.Whilst clearly an exciting talent, this does pose some interesting questions. Where does he fit? What about Reinildo?Lets try to answer those.Who is Dayann Mthalie?Thankfully, I dont need to bore you with a full deep dive on who Mthalie is and what hes good at as he featured in a Scouting Report I covered earlier this month (see below).Who is Dayann Mthalie? Sunderlands Latest Left-Back TargetThe condensed version is that Dayann Mthalie is a highly rated 20-year-old left-back who can also comfortably operate as a left wing-back or a left-sided centre-back in a back three. Standing at an imposing 1.88m (6ft 2in), Mthalie possesses a unique blend of physical stature and athletic dynamism that is rare among modern full-backs.He made 28 appearances for Toulouse in Ligue 1 last season, scoring twice and registering a single assist. For the French U21 side, he has excelled, scoring twice and registering an assist in four appearances.Defensively, he ranks highly across his metrics. Scoring well in the 80th-85th percentile range on a number of scores, including defensive contributions, duels won, clearances, and tackles. Showcasing why hes thought so highly of as a young defender. However, its perhaps some of his offensive metrics that really catch the eye. Mthalie ranked in the 92nd percentile for completed dribbles and in the 95th percentile for touches in the opposition box, making himself a nuisance to opposition defenders. On National broadcaster RMCs post-match analysis show, After Foot, pundit Walid Acherchour praised his physical profile and spoke highly of his potential.Dayann Mthalies future seems to be written in very big letters I can already see him taking the next step: becoming the starting left-back for the French national team. The FinancesFollowing reports of a 30m (25.6m) fee for the young Frenchman, this would be the clubs second-highest transfer fee ever. Which just proves how far weve come in these last two years, and what type of high-quality player we can attract to WearsideBut fret not, fellow Mackems, a big fee doesnt mean that a large portion of the war chest is being used. The deal is also reported to be for five years. Which is a great thing on two points. Firstly, we would be locking down a highly talented 20-year-old during his key development period, and secondly, we can amortise this fee over the length of his contract to spread the cost. As a 20-year-old arriving from Ligue 1, Mthalies initial wage demands are highly likely to sit well below the premium salaries demanded by battle-tested starters from across Europes top leagues, making the high fee an easier pill to swallow.Mthalie can be seen as a shrewd investment, with all signs pointing towards a young man with a high developmental ceiling and with that comes high potential value in the years to come. A Premier League full-back commands a pretty high price tag in the modern game; you only need to look at Chelseas Malo Gusto. A decent player, but not someone who would be worth shelling out a reported 70m for. If Mthalie develops well at Sunderland under the guidance of Rgis Le Bris and utilising the form and potential that had him shortlisted for the 2026 Golden Boy award, we are looking at a record sale. Squad ImplicationsNow the juicy bit, what role is Mthalie coming in to play? Is he going to be our new starting left-back, or is he going to play understudy to Reinildo? I feel itll be a hybrid of both options.Spending 30m on a player to not contribute heavily is just a silly mistake (whilst other Premier League sides seem to make this mistake regularly), as it causes so many issues on the books. Simply, I cant see our higher-ups sanctioning such a deal on a simple youth prospect or development player. Whilst we dont hold the French league in the highest regard on these shores, Mthalie would regularly face some of the worlds best wingers when coming up against the likes of PSG and was defensively solid in a mid-table side in Ligue 1 as his stats and reports suggest. Offering much more to the side than we saw with our left side throughout last season, especially going forward. This, combined with Reinildo entering the last year of his deal with Sunderland, is leaning me towards the view that Mthalie will arguably become our starting left-back over the course of the season, if not starting the campaign as such. Effectively, transitioning Reinildo into a 20-to-25-match role protects his physical condition while giving Mthalie room to adapt to English and European football without excessive pressure.SummaryWhile a 30m (25.6m) fee naturally brings high expectations, Dayann Mthalies on-pitch performances during his breakout 202526 Ligue 1 season demonstrate that he is uniquely equipped to displace Reinildo Mandava and take over the starting left-back berth immediately. Reinildo provided essential stability during his debut season, but Mthalies ceiling, physical profile, and offensive output make him a different kind of asset. Starting Mthalie would give Sunderland the dynamic, modern balance needed to compete simultaneously in the Premier League and Europe.
