SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBig 12 team preview: Can former Kansas State great Collin Klein revive the once-proud Wildcats?Kansas State quarterback Avery Johnson, right, hands the ball off to running back Joe Jackson, left, during game against Utah, Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025, in Salt Lake City. Tyler Tate, Associated Press | Tyler Tate, Associated Press Editors note: Tenth in a series previewing each team in the Big 12 in 2026.New Kansas State football coach Collin Klein had one primary objective after taking over for Chris Klieman when the 2025 season ended with the Wildcats finishing 6-6 and turning down the opportunity to play in a bowl game. The main task for the former Heisman Trophy candidate in his playing days as a quarterback in the Little Apple was to retain the Big Man on Campus senior quarterback Avery Johnson. This is home for me. It is a dream come true and I am so grateful for our administration and our players and all the effort that has been put in over the last six months as we build this thing and move it forward. Our culture has been very, very strong. This is a good situation to walk into as a first-time head coach.first-year Kansas State coach Chris KliemanConsider that mission accomplished, as the schools single-season leader and career co-leader for touchdown passes stayed in Manhattan despite having had the opportunity to get a bigger paycheck somewhere else. Because of the return of Johnson, who fell off as a junior after outstanding freshman and sophomore campaigns, Kansas State is predicted to finish in the middle of the Big 12 pack in most compilations.Had the blond bomber gone the route of many of his teammates when Klieman retired, K-State would likely have been tabbed to finish near the cellar. Thats how much the departures rocked the program, and how much is thought of Johnson by writers who cover the league. In a preseason poll of beat writers one for each of the 16 schools in the league Kansas State was picked to finish eighth. That after Johnson led the Wildcats to a 5-4 conference record last year.Klein was K-States offensive coordinator in Johnsons freshman season before taking the same role at Texas A&M for two seasons. He personally recruited the four-star dual-threat QB to Manhattan and said hes thrilled to be reunited with the 2023 MVP of the Pop-Tarts Bowl. Our relationship goes back a long way. It is incredibly special to me. I would argue that some of his best attributes are not physical. I know everyone sees how fast he is and how well he can run. Everybody sees the arm talent and the zip and spin on the football. Hes one of the best competitors Ive been around, Klein said of Johnson. He works hard at his craft, and hes a very stoic, laid-back guy. But that process is going (internally) and his motor is going hot under there even though hes very, very calm and collected on top.Klein seemingly delivered on a promise to surround Johnson with speed and talent on the perimeter in 2026, something that was lacking last year. Hawaiis Brandon White, Missouris Josh Manning and Texas A&Ms Isaiah Williams should give KSU considerably more receiving options. At running back, Joe Jackson is back after showing flashes of brilliance in 2025. When he played for K-State, and before his brief stint at A&M, Klein liked to utilize 12 personnel (two tight ends) and run the ball as much as possible. It will be interesting to see if he brings that back to Manhattan, after using a lot of spread offenses at College Station and throwing the ball all over the place. If he can cobble together a good mix, K-State should have a Big 12-caliber offense, and Klein should have the purple Cats closer to the top of the league than the bottom. This is home for me. It is a dream come true and I am so grateful for our administration and our players and all the effort that has been put in over the last six months as we build this thing and move it forward, he said. Our culture has been very, very strong. This is a good situation to walk into as a first-time head coach. Most of the questions are on defense, as K-State had to get help from the transfer portal at every position group on that side of the ball after the mass departures. Oklahoma States Wendell Gregory, rated as the No. 6 edge rusher in the portal, is the key acquisition there. Also, Klein brought new defensive coordinator Jordan Peterson with him from Texas, where they ran a 4-2-5 scheme and created a lot of havoc for SEC offenses. With his experience level and the different places that hes been, I feel very, very confident that were going to be able to put the package together that will fit our personnel and also be multiple, Klein said of Peterson, who will also coach the defensive backs. If the Wildcats can bring back a pass rush, and stop the run, they could be a force in the Big 12 because their schedule is fairly favorable in 2026. Five of their first six games are at home, and they dont have to face three of the expected top teams in the league: BYU, Utah and Texas Tech. The Wildcats three nonconference games Nicholls, Washington State, Tulane are all winnable and at home, and their toughest Big 12 opponents (Houston, Arizona) are also at home.My past success as a player, our past success as a program, is going to have zero impact on our ability to win football games this fall, Klein said. It will obviously help, but that comes down to our players, our staff, and us doing the work that is necessary.2026 Kansas State Wildcats at a glance 2025 record: 6-6 (5-4 Big 12)Utah tiesNew BYU linebacker Jake Clifton played in 19 games for Kansas State (2022-23) before a church mission to Nicaragua2026 scheduleSept. 5: vs. NichollsSept. 12: vs. Washington StateSept. 19: vs. TulaneSept. 26: at CincinnatiOct. 10: vs. HoustonOct. 17: vs. KansasOct. 24: at Arizona StateOct. 31: at ColoradoNov. 7: vs. Oklahoma StateNov. 14: at TCUNov. 21: vs. ArizonaNov. 28: at Iowa State0 Comments 0 Shares 44 Views 0 Reviews

Both will, thus, not travel with Team India for their two-Test tour of Sri Lanka in August, while it will be the first international assignment for Subhadeep, who has been the fielding coach of India A teams in the past.During India's England tour, Ten Doeschate informed the BCCI of his decision to leave, despite being offered an extension until 2027 by the board. Although the BCCI was keen to retain him, the former Netherlands all-rounder declined the offer, citing personal reasons. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBrian Thomas Jr.: I want to be undeniableJaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. would like to put the 2025 season in the rearview mirror. Thomas had 87 catches for 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns after being drafted in the first round in 2024, but his second season halted all talk of him jumping right to the top of the list of NFL wideouts. Thomas caught less than half of the balls thrown his way and he was credited with 10 drops en route to 48 catches for 707 yards and two touchdowns. The drop in production led to trade chatter this offseason, but the Jaguars were quick to shut it down and call Thomas a big part of their plans for 2026. That talk and other doubts about his upside still found their way to Thomas and he credits a conversation with his father for putting him in the right mindset to bounce back.We heard everything that was going on, all that, but he just told me, Come out here and be undeniable, Thomas said, via Mark Lane of the Associated Press. Thats just something I live by every day. I want to be undeniable.Jakobi Meyers and Parker Washington stepped up as the team's most reliable wideouts during a 13-4 season, so Jacksonville has a full deck of options in the passing game. They'd still like to see Thomas get back to something close to that undeniable rookie form as they try to defend their division title this fall.0 Comments 0 Shares 39 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCharles Barkley praises Bulls' Caleb Wilson as 'best rookie' in NBAAfter dazzling in the NBA Summer League earlier this month, Chicago Bulls rookie Caleb Wilson earned high praise from Hall of Famer Charles Barkley on Tuesday.Wilson was a consensus second-team All-American selection at North Carolina, averaging 19.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.4 blocks while shooting 57.8% from the field. He set the freshman program records for scoring average and 20-point games (17).The 6-foot-10 Wilson was highly touted entering the draft because of his versatility, athleticism and physical traits, boasting a 7-foot, 1/4-inch wingspan. Barkley, speaking on the "Dan Patrick Show," believes the Bulls hit a home run by selecting Wilson with the fourth overall pick.I think the Chicago Bulls got the best rookie in the NBA. When I was talking to coaches and general managers, they are like, 'Who would you take with the No. 1 pick?' I said, 'Caleb Wilson.' They are like, 'What do you mean?' I said, 'I like (AJ) Dybantsa. I like (Darryn) Peterson. There was no player I would have taken before Caleb Wilson. Not one.' Peterson and Dybantsa are probably better scorers at this stage, but he can learn how to shoot. Let me tell you something: From an athletic point, he can guard one, two, three, four. Ain't nobody more talented than Caleb Wilson. Period.Wilson was named to the All-Summer League first team, averaging 23.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, 1.8 assists and 1.2 steals while shooting 41.9% from 3-point range in four games. He ranked fourth in total points (94) among all players, having scored 19 or more in each appearance. The 20-year-old has earned comparisons to Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett because of his similar skill set and ability that was on display in Las Vegas. Even "The Big Ticket" has bought into it,reportedly referring to Wilson as "The Little Ticket."Wilson has already become a fan favorite, while also earning approval from a couple of legends in Barkley and Garnett for his potential on the court. While it ultimately remains to be seen which rookie will have the best career, Wilson will enter next season with plenty of hype. This article originally appeared on Rookie Wire: Charles Barkley praises Bulls' Caleb Wilson as 'best rookie' in NBA0 Comments 0 Shares 44 Views 0 Reviews
