SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWNBA deletes post of Paige Bueckers, Angel Reese betting each other on gameThe WNBA continues to make news nearly daily, and most of it has nothing to do with the on-court product that packs arenas and sets television viewing records. The league posted and then deleted a video on social media featuring Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckersand Atlanta Dream forwardAngel Reeseduring All-Star Weekend. The two teams played on Wednesday, July 29, as the second half of the season got underway this week.In the video, Bueckers and Reese are shown talking about betting each other $400 over which team would win the game. The caption on the post read "We did?" with a laughing emoji, "Paige Bueckers on the bet she made with Angel Reese at All-Star Weekend on tonight's matchup."The WNBA deleted the post, but not before it was screenshot and reposted. The WNBA deleted a post endorsing players betting on games pic.twitter.com/2pNTgJYMnF BrickCenter (@BrickCenter_) July 29, 2026The league's bylaws prohibit any wagering on games, as the new Collective Bargaining Agreement states in Article XIV, Player Conduct and Discipline section."Any player found by the Commissioner after a hearing to have been guilty of wagering (directly or indirectly), or of offering or attempting to wager, money or anything of value on the outcome, score, or any other aspect of any WNBA Competition shall, in the sole discretion of the Commissioner, be subject to a fine, suspension, and/or dismissal and disqualification from any further association with the WNBA," Section 5(c) states. The Dream ended up beating the Wings 82-81, and when Reese was asked about the wager during the post-game press conference, Reese replied, "I will be requesting her Apple Pay after this. Her response to the deleted video of her and Paige literally betting on the game is that shell be requesting her Apple Pay?! SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDe Zerbi to allow players who arent committed to the team to leaveTottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi before the pre-season friendly match at the Allianz Stadium in Sydney, Australia. Picture date: Wednesday July 29, 2026. (Photo by Robbie Stephenson/PA Images via Getty Images) | PA Images via Getty ImagesI already wrote about the biggest talking point from Roberto De Zerbis recent interview with Alasdair Gold on football.london the announcement of the mystery, unfinished transfer bomba that supposedly is coming in the next week. But theres a lot more in RDZs chat with Gold, particularly in the area of transfer departures. Several Spurs players have been linked with an exit from Tottenham this summer, including some heavyweights like Cuti Romero, Guglielmo Vicario, Lucas Bergvall, and England World Cup cult hero Djed Spence. Initial fan reaction (for most of them) was dismay that we would let these players, some of whom are fan favorites, depart the club when there are obvious holes in the squad that they could patch. In the case of Bergvall, its an unwillingness to let a player with an obviously high ceiling leave in pursuit of regular playing time. But in his interview with Gold, De Zerbi says hes not here to convince players to stay and play for Tottenham Hotspur hes here to make sure the players who ARE here are fully committed to the project. And if youre not, then youre free to go.At the beginning of my time, in April, I had, I dont know, one million individual meetings! And [the players] told me what was their idea. I said: Yes, help me to stay up, and then I help you to leave. If you dont help me to stay up, you stay underwater with me!But Romero with me was unbelievable. Top. In his behaviour, his respect, he suffered when he did not play the last game. It is not true that he wanted to leave for Argentina to prepare for their World Cup. Its not true. After the semi-final [against England] we text a message, but I never called him to convince him to stay. I respected what he told me. Like for Vicario, like for every player. What I say to you, is the same I said to Djed and to Lucas I would like you to stay, he explained. Not I want you to stay. I would like you stay if you want to stay. If you dont want to stay, if you want to leave, you have to leave. If you want to leave, speak with Vinai [Venkatesham] and Johan, because I dont manage the price, the sale.I can speak with Vinai and Johan about the best strategy, but I dont decide 30m, 40m, thats not my position and I dont want to change my position. Its tough enough to be a coach and I want to stay as a coach. But I respected the players ideas and opinions or projects. But if they stay, they have to stay following my rules, decisions on the pitch. After two games, three games, if one player is not playing and he starts to be sad or not correct with the other players, the coaches, staff, the club, we would make a big, big mistake because we didnt learn from the past season. The quotes about Cuti are illuminating. Its clear now Romero is ready for a fresh start, but its equally clear that one of the biggest catalysts for fan discontent against Romero Cutis supposed unwillingness to return from Argentina for Spurs final match of the season was complete fiction. At some level that doesnt matter the fans turned against him and still believe the background chatter that Romero only turned up at the last match because he was forced to rather than because he had always planned to be there. That will always annoy me the fan-based supposition that Romero cared more about Argentina than he did about Tottenham. Its been dis-proven over and over again, but I suspect the narrative will persist. Well have more about Cuti and his rumored exit later today. But in general principles, I dont have too many objections to how De Zerbi has handled himself here with regards to the players who supposedly want out. RDZ is showing himself, like Ange Postecoglou and Mauricio Pochettino, to be a manager who desires full buy-in to his tactics and ideas. Would he like players like Romero and Bergvall to stay and fight for a place in his squad? Absolutely. But if the player doesnt have that desire, hes willing to let them go to make space for players that do. I cant fault the reasoning, even if I wish players like Romero, Spence, and Bergvall would stick around. But thats on them. If they want out, they want out and De Zerbi isnt willing to let uncommitted players hang around just because theyre good.I suspect most of the players rumored for an exit will eventually leave, as theyve come to the determination that theyre better served at a club that can offer them more playing time. Theyre not necessarily wrong to make that determination! Players want to play and are often willing to fight to put themselves in the best possible position for their careers. I cant fault them for that, even if it means a few players that Ive come to love over the past few years depart for other pastures.0 Komentáře 0 Sdílení 65 Shlédnutí 0 Hodnocení

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMRonnie Stanley delivers strong endorsement of Ravens OL coachOne thing became painfully obvious in 2025, and it was noticeable relatively early. The Baltimore Ravens' offensive line was a weak link in a strong chain. Had there been better options at midseason, Baltimore would have explored them, but alas, a retool would have to wait until the offseason rolled around this past March. The biggest news involved a subtraction. Tyler Linderbaum joined the Las Vegas Raiders. There were additions: John Simpson, Danny Pinter, Jovaughn Gwyn, Hakeem Adeniji. Vega Ioane and Evan Beernsten were drafted. Diego Pounds and Nick Dawkins were undrafted rookies who were added to the linebacker room after the selection meeting as undrafted rookie free agents. The retool has been discussed often. Their leader... Sure, we know who he is, but we frankly haven't mentioned him enough. Ravens camp will remedy that. As a matter of fact, it seems it already has. Dwayne Ledford wins over Ronnie Stanley.Dwayne Ledford joined Baltimore as the offensive line coach and run game coordinator in January as part of Jesse Minter's new staff. His coaching resume spans two decades. One of his best players, Ronnie Stanley, was asked about him. The praise was glowing as Stanley wasn't stingy in his admiration.#Ravens OT Ronnie Stanley on offensive line coach Dwayne Ledford: "He's done a great job of coming to the room, getting to know the guys outside of the football player that they are and just the person that they are." pic.twitter.com/rNfuwcXmNZ Jamison Hensley (@jamisonhensley) July 28, 2026Ledford wants his teams to "play fast". He probably won't have any issues here. Not only that. Protecting Lamar Jackson is job number one. There's another statement that probably won't surprise anyone. Stanley's endorsement carries weight because it touched on more than just scheme or technique. Great offensive line coaches establish an identity. They know what is needed to connect with players, and that appears to be exactly what Ledford is doing.Creating running lanes for Derrick Henry isn't a revolutionary idea, but consistent execution is what separates good offensive lines from championship-caliber ones. Baltimore invested heavily in rebuilding its front five this offseason. Now, it's Ledford's job to mold those new pieces into a cohesive unit. If Stanley's early impressions are any indication, the Ravens believe they've found the right coach to lead that transformation. Baltimore's new O-line coach may wind up being one of the offseason's most important additions. This article originally appeared on Ravens Wire: Ronnie Stanley delivers strong endorsement of Ravens OL coach0 Komentáře 0 Sdílení 72 Shlédnutí 0 Hodnocení

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMPatriots training camp primer: Everything you need to know about Day 5FOXBOROUGH, MA - JUNE 09: Offense and defense set-up during New England Patriots Minicamp on June 9, 2026, at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. (Photo by Summer Lamont/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images) | Icon Sportswire via Getty ImagesThings are about to change at New England Patriots training camp. Not only is the weather worse than it had been for the first four sessions of the summer, Thursdays practice also will see the introduction of some physicality: for the first time since the end of last season, players will wear full pads.Heres everything else you need to know about training camp practice No. 5.ScheduleDespite the weather, the Patriots fifth training camp practice of the year is scheduled to again take place on the fields behind Gillette Stadium. The session is free and open for the general public to attend.9:30 a.m. ET: Gates open10:30 a.m. ET: Practiceca. 12:30 p.m. ET: Player availability (FB Reggie Gilliam, WR Kayshon Boutte, TE Eli Raridon, OT Caleb Lomu, G Mike Onwenu, DT Cory Durden)As always, of course, the schedule is tentative and subject to change. For more information, please visit our Pats Pulpit Training Camp Guide.Story of the dayWith full pads being introduced to the mix, we are going to keep a close eye out for everything associated with them. The 1-on-1 blocking battles between offensive and defensive linemen, how receivers and cornerbacks fare in press-man coverage, the pass rush in full team drills, injuries you name it.Long story short, Thursdays practice will be the most intense one to date.Injuries to monitorNFI: RB Terrell Jennings, S Brenden SchoolerPUP: TE C.J. Dippre, ED Harold Landry III, ED Gabe JacasInjured: RB Rhamondre Stevenson, CB Carlton Davis III, CB Charles WoodsThree players got shaken up during the Patriots most recent practice on Tuesday, and their availability and workload will be worth monitoring. As for the five players on the injury lists, they remain eligible to return at any point.Players to watchRB Jam Miller: The battle for the Patriots third running back spot is about to heat up. And while Lan Larison has held that role pretty consistently through the first four days of practice, rookie Jam Miller has looked good and could give the sophomore a run for his money. Miller, after all, projects as a true between-the-tackles early-down back and should be at his best when the bodies truly start flying around him.WR A.J. Brown and CB Christian Gonzalez: This is going to be one of the marquee battles of training camp, with two of the best players in the league at their respective positions going at each other. So far, Gonzalez has had the upper hand whenever he and Brown crossed paths. However, the introduction of pads could help level the playing field in favor of the big-bodied receiver. Then again, Gonzalez has handled all types of receivers in his career. This will be a fun one, reminiscent of the Logan Mankins-Vince Wilfork battles of yore.OT Will Campbell and OT Caleb Lomu: Finally, some full on 1-on-1s. The Patriots did do some drills of that kind before in camp, but without full pads those always need to be taken with a grain of salt. Now, its time for the real deal and for an up-close look at the Patriots future tackle pairing in particular: Campbell will be in the spotlight given that the last full-pads impression of him in the Super Bowl was a negative, while Lomu will get his first taste of NFL physicality for the first time ever.Pats Pulpit will have you covered throughout the day, so please make sure to regularly check back topatspulpit.comfor all the latest news from camp. Credentialed Patriots beat writers Brian Hines (@iambrianhines), Andrew Guindon (@NestPgs) Taylor Kyles (@tkyles39) will bring you live updates from camp on their Twitter/X feeds, so please make sure to give them a follow.0 Komentáře 0 Sdílení 69 Shlédnutí 0 Hodnocení

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM2026 USC opponent check-in: Wisconsin Badgers could bounce backLast season for the Wisconsin Badgers was a complete disaster, but Luke Fickell might have found his footing toward the end. The Badgers got back to playing near their standard. Fickell has the support of the program, and with better quarterback play, the Badgers could compete for a bowl bid. USC can't take a win over the Badgers for granted. In a recent article, Bjorn Bergstrom is projecting the Wisconsin Badgers to bounce back from a 4-8 season and get back to winning this season. Here is what he had to say. "Coach Luke Fickell is still around, clearly with support from the athletic department after a disappointing start. to his tenure. He pulled off a major move in the portal, landing Old Dominion quarterback Colton Joseph after his illustrious career with the Monarchs. Joseph's talent alone should win the Badgers a couple more games than a season ago, elevating them to bowl eligibility."The Badgers are projected to take down the Trojans and finish the season 7-5. Week 9 has all the makings of a trap game for the Trojans as they are heading to Wisconsin for that game. That would be a loss for USC that would take them out of contention for a College Football Playoff spot. The Badgers will be a worthy opponent this season, but USC will need to ensure they seize that game as an opportunity to prove themselves as a worthy threat in the Big Ten.Contact/Follow @TrojansWire on X (formerly Twitter) and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of USC Trojans news, notes and opinion. This article originally appeared on Trojans Wire: 2026 USC opponent check-in: Wisconsin Badgers could bounce back0 Komentáře 0 Sdílení 70 Shlédnutí 0 Hodnocení
