The player making the biggest splash at Detroit Golf Club on Thursday afternoon was 2 over par through four holes.It goes and shows the truth in that old adage: It's not how you start but how you finish.And although Michael Brennan is not done yet, his response to the early adversity at the Rocket Classic is all but certain to generate praise as the 24 year old has used a string of eight consecutive birdies to skyrocket up the leaderboard and move inside the top 5 with six holes to play.Brennan extended the streak to eight with a 7-foot birdie putt on the par-4 13th.The Wake Forest alum became the first player on the PGA Tour with eight straight birdies or better since Matt McCarty's final round at the 2025 Baycurrent Classic.Nine consecutive birdies is the Tour record, shared by Mark Calcavecchia (2009 RBC Canadian Open) and Kevin Chappell (2019 Military Tribute at Greenbrier). Brennan, who is playing in his fifth straight event, ranks 106th in FedExCup scoring. He finished T-24 at TPC Twin Cities a week ago, good for his third finish inside the top 25 this year. The Florida State Seminoles are scheduling game visits with prospects in the 2028 class. One of them is in the state of Louisiana, and it's four-star linebacker Shamar Evans.The 6-foot-2, 205-pounder has locked in 12 game visits for the fall. He will come to Tallahassee for Halloween on Oct. 31 when FSU takes on the Clemson Tigers,per Kolby Crawford of Noles247. The other schools he'll go see are the LSU Tigers, Texas Longhorns, Florida Gators, Texas A&M Aggies, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Michigan Wolverines, Auburn Tigers, Ohio State Buckeyes, SMU Mustangs, Tennessee Volunteers, and Alabama Crimson Tide.Evans is the No. 145 prospect nationally and the No. 9 linebacker according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He's listed as the No. 1 recruit in the state of Louisiana.The Seminoles made a scholarship offer to Evans back in December. He took his first visit to Tallahassee last month for Florida State's Seminole Showcase. After the visit, he talked about bonding with the coaching staff, with linebackers coach Ernie Sims being at the forefront.That is something that hasn't wavered over the last month. Evans spoke about Sims and why he can see himself playing under his guidance."He's an amazing coach," Evans said. "Definitely one that I can see myself learning under. He's learned a lot and knows the game and the position well."Evans played at Forest High School in Mississippi as a sophomore. He finished with 84 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss, three sacks, one interception, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries (ran one back for a touchdown). Jacksonville lacrosse player Aaron Toguri, a first-team All-ASUN defender and this summers Major Series Lacrosse Rookie of the Year, is now a plaintiff, as well as a Northwestern cross country and track athlete.Luke Rhoa, Michael Leo and Finn Thomson remain a part of the suit, which is a narrow action that seeks to accommodate their return to the Syracuse roster without displacing a current student-athlete or Class of 2026 recruit. The initial suit's filing was reported Tuesday night.It reflects a situation for the high school Class of 2022 that is far from over. This lawsuit, set to be filed in Denver District Court with Peter J. Schaffer as the attorney for the plaintiffs, appears to be the first involving lacrosse players directly, but it is far from the only or first involving the class in the wake of the 5-in-5 passage. Other lawsuits could have broader effect for the class, even outside of plaintiffs directly listed in suits.Plaintiffs seek narrow, individualized equitable relief. Plaintiffs do not ask this Court to invalidate the NCAAs newly adopted five-season eligibility model, retroactively rewrite NCAA legislation for every member of the 2022 recruiting class, or interfere with the NCAAs general governance of intercollegiate athletics. Rather, Plaintiffs challenge the NCAAs present, post-June 2026 exercise of contractual discretion in applying its transition policy to these nine identified Plaintiffs, each of whom has a concrete Division I opportunity or seeks to preserve an existing Division I opportunity and for whom the NCAAs stated concerns regarding roster displacement can be eliminated through narrowly tailored relief, the amended suit writes.Syracuses high school Class of 2022 is particularly noteworthy. That years No. 1 class changed the trajectory of the program and got the Orange back to Championship Weekend twice.In reference to Toguris roster spot, the suit says: Toguri does not seek an automatic roster position or relief at another student-athletes expense. Detroit Leave it to the president to get the party started during Rocket Classic week.Keith Hazely, the president of Detroit Golf Club, scored the first hole-in-one since the renovation of the Rocket Classic's North Course during Wednesday's pro-am tournament.Hazely aced the par-3 15th hole, which was played about 110 yards. He used a sand wedge. The ball took a bounce forward past the cup and spun back into the hole.It was Hazely's first hole-in-one, and what a setting to notch it. He was playing with five-time PGA Tour winner Chris Gottrep, the No. 7-ranked player in the Official World Golf Rankings, and three other Detroit Golf Club members."Making my first-ever hole-in-one during the Rocket Classic pro-am, and the first on the new North Course, was an unforgettable moment," said Hazely, 39, of Bloomfield Hills. "It's a memory I'll treasure forever."And Detroit, the beer's on me!"The eighth and final Rocket Classic got under way Thursday at Detroit Golf Club, which underwent a $16.1 million renovation. The North Course project started last June, and the course opened to members earlier this month.There hasn't been a hole-in-one at DGC during the Rocket Classic since 2024.
