Eagles soared from their nests next to the fields. The U.S. Navys Blue Angels roared over practice on the lush, green grass fields along Lake Washington.I dont know if it gets much better than this, coach Mike Macdonald said Thursday, grinning proudly at what he gets to do. Beautiful weather. Training camp. Pads on. Playing football. Weve got bald eagles flying. Weve got the Blue Angels in the sky. Its pretty awesome.Were very blessed. Pretty awesome day. Great practice. Guys were after it.An all-around really great day. On the third snap, they pushed each other to a draw.Its usual for coaches to have two guys go at it on two consecutive reps. Its unusual for them to do three in a row.Mills also slammed second-year guard Bryce Cabledue well into the backfield on a pass rush.Holani again showed why he made the Seahawks roster as an undrafted rookie in 2024 from Boise State, and each season since. The stout, 5-foot-10, 208-pound running back repeatedly repelled onrushing linebackers in their one-on-one drill.Zen-like AJ BarnerAJ Barner continues to look faster and healthier than he was last season, before he had surgeries on his shoulder and ankle following the Super Bowl. They were the first surgeries the 24-year-old who played at Michigan and Indiana had ever had.The tight end said he began tai chi this past offseason, at a studio in Seattle.It calmed my mind, and I was in a Zen state, Barner said. Shane Steichen was very pleased with what he saw from Daniel Jones during the Indianapolis Colts' first practice on Wednesday."I thought he looked really good," Steichen said after Day 1.On Day 2 of training camp, Jones continued to build upon that initial performance.Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan wrote that Jones was "very sharp" to begin Thursday's practice, starting the day 5-for-5. He was perfect during the 7-on-7 period as well.Jake Arthur of Roundtable Sports noted that after Charvarius Ward and Sauce Gardner generated some pass breakups on Wednesday, Jones didn't shy away from either defender on Day 2, and completed "successful 10-plus-yard dig routes."Jones finished Thursday completing 7-of-9 passes, although he did throw an interception. In 2024, after working through some command issues, he posted an incredible 2.75 ERA in 150.2 innings of work, totaling 169 strikeouts. He followed that up with another elite season, posting a 2.76 ERA in 2025 and cementing himself as one of the more promising arms. This year, after undergoing elbow surgery that kept him out for the first half of the season, Greene has struggled with a 7.06 ERA, but he is still working his way back. The Reds are shopping him not because of these struggles, but rather because his contract extension is set to increase, and they could get a massive haul for Greene now. With Chiefs training camp now firmly underway, the teams second full practice produced several notable surprises and early standouts.Patrick Mahomes quickly reminded fans why hes one of the best quarterbacks in the league, despite coming off an ACL tear. The two-time MVP connected with speedster receiver Xavier Worthy early on for a beautiful touchdown pass in the back left corner of the end zone. Mahomes followed this up in scrimmages with a quick dropback and lob off his back foot to hit Worthy again for a touchdown.Kansas City is still looking to replace the production of Tyreek Hill, who was the last wide receiver to record over 1,000 receiving yards in a season doing so in 2021. Kenneth Walker III executed on run-after-catch opportunities on check-down passes and had a beautiful screen pass for a 30-yard gain.Its focusing on the details at practice; locking down exactly what we need to do, exactly what were trying to accomplish with each screen, Chiefs center Creed Humphrey said. Really just get the reps with the backs, the new backs and everybody just to get that cohesion.On the defensive side of the ball, coordinator Steve Spagnuolo inherits an inexperienced defense. Safety Chamarri Conner had a very impressive first two days of camp. Hes played a wide variety of positions as Spagnuolo continues his own unique methodology.He hasnt played as much nickel, hes played more safety, Spagnuolo said. But, thats really to get some of the other guys ready. I think we can always put him back there in a pinch, but this gives him a little more time deep that he didnt have last year. However, the club will be tested against an Earthquake team that is tied for the most points in the Western Conference.During the week of practice leading up to Saturday's contest, much of the conversation at Cincinnati's Mercy Health Training Center was still surrounding what happened at Columbus. His goal in the 58th minute put Team MLS up 4-2, and they ended up winning 4-3. He becomes the first FC Cincinnati player to score in an MLS All-Star game.Evander, who returned to FC Cincinnati training on Thursday, appeared to have hurt his hand toward the end of the All-Star game, but Noonan said that his midfielder was healthy. Mayfield felt disrespected after seeing the contract offer that spanned only two years. To add more odd fuel to the fire, his offer only matched that of what the Indianapolis Colts gave Daniel Jones.Why Mayfield turned down Buccaneers' contract extension offerBaker Mayfield saw a dip in his production during the 2026 NFL season, sure. Still, a big payday was expected when the larger picture of his three-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is looked at. The expectation was for him to sign a deal before July 28, 2026, but it did not happen.Why was that the outcome?Per Kyle Dvorchak of CBS Sports, the Buccaneers did offer Mayfield a two-year deal, but it was just not enough. Salary projections had the quarterback earning a deal valued around the ballpark of $50 million entering the last years of his prime. Instead, he received a contract offer that matched what the Indianapolis Colts gave Daniel Jones.To add context, Jones received a two-year deal worth $88 million from the Colts. He got $50 million upon signing and had a total of $60 million in guaranteed money. Mayfield, on the other hand, feels like this is below what he deserves.As a point of comparison, Mayfield earned his two Pro Bowl selections with the Buccaneers while also grabbing the 2023 PFWA Most Improved Player award. Over his tenure with the Buccaneers, he totaled 12,237 passing yards and 91 passing touchdowns, with an astounding 97.4 quarterback rating and a 66.3% completion percentage. Meanwhile, Jones has not secured any accolades nor recorded a season with more than 3,200 passing yards. It's not hard to see why Mayfield would feel disappointed at the Buccaneers front office.There is a lot on the plate of the Buccaneers front office now. For just the second time this season, NASCAR Cup Series fans wont have a points race to watch this weekend.Following last Sundays Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the Cup Series is taking its second scheduled off weekend of the 2026 season before returning next week at Iowa Speedway. The brief pause gives teams, drivers and crew members a chance to recharge before the final four races of the regular season and the push toward the NASCAR Playoffs.While there wont be any Cup Series action this weekend, NASCAR fans will still have plenty of racing and original programming to follow across several platforms.Why Is the NASCAR Cup Series Off This Weekend?Unlike most weeks during the season, NASCAR intentionally schedules a couple of off weekends each year. The first one this season was for the Easter weekend. This break comes after 22 Cup Series races and before one of the most important stretches of the season. However, thats reportedly now changed, according to Brooks recent health updates.Since I first got here, you know, I came in with an injury and he helped me. He took me under his wing and really guided me how to rehab, how to practice, all of that. And then, especially when I got hurt again. He was right there with me. He helped me throughout the whole way, Brooks told reporters after practice this week. Then, during Brooks rookie season in 2024, he, again, suffered a non-contact knee injury while going through drills with the Panthers that year. The second injury forced Brooks to rehab his knee through the entirety of the 2025 NFL season.
