CHICAGO The Chicago White Sox have not been shy about their efforts to add starting pitching in the lead-up to the trade deadline at 6 p.m. ET Monday. The Sox are casting a wide net in their search for playoff-caliber rotation reinforcements, with the hope of getting back to the postseason for the first time since 2021.The White Sox have been scouring the market in recent days, and sources tell Yahoo Sports that Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Shane Bieber and Orioles left-hander Trevor Rogers are two names on Chicagos radar. Bieber is a familiar face to the White Sox, as he faced them for seven seasons while a member of the Cleveland Guardians. This year, the Blue Jays right-hander is 2-2 with a 5.74 ERA in seven starts.Rogers, who is 6-7 with a 4.27 ERA in 20 starts this season, has come on strong over the past month and a half. The Orioles southpaw has a 1.85 ERA with 41 strikeouts across his past seven starts. Both Bieber and Rogers will become free agents at the end of the 2026 season.Chicago, like other upstart contenders around the sport, would love to add controllable starting pitching to their roster if they can. But the Sox also arent afraid to go the rental route, depending on what the market presents over the next few days. Yahoo Sports reported on Monday that the White Sox were showing interest in starting pitchers who fit the window of the teams young core, with Los Angeles Angels starter Reid Detmers high on their list.Chicago has also continued to show interest in New York Mets right-hander Clay Holmes. The Sox were one of several teams who had representatives at Holmes rehab start on Tuesday. The Mets right-hander, who has a player option for 2027, can become a free agent at the end of this season.Its worth noting that the White Sox also had representatives at Tarik Skubals start in Detroit on Wednesday. While they are not believed to be strong candidates to acquire the back-to-back AL Cy Young Award winner, theyve at least done their due diligence.

Evan Campbell was barely a second into the second day of the decathlon when disaster struck [PA Media]Jersey's Evan Campbell has finished 12th in the 2026 Commonwealth Games decathlon after being disqualified from the 110m hurdles.The 25-year-old clipped the first barrier and fell before rolling under the second hurdle in the opening event of day two.He then ducked under a third barrier after getting back to his feet and was disqualified for not going over each hurdle.Campbell finished in a time of more than 24 seconds, but was given a score of 0 points for the event, but was allowed to carry on competing in the day's final four disciplines.Campbell has been the first-ever Jersey man to compete in a Commonwealth Games decathlon and had been 10th out of the 12 competitors at the end of the opening day. He went on to record a season's best throw of 41.31m in the discus and jumped 4.10m in the pole vault.Campbell followed those up season's best performances in his final two events - throwing 52.21m in the javelin before running 4:46.67 in the 1500m.It meant he finished 95 points off Cook Islands' Max Teuruaa with a score of 6339 points, 1757 off the winner Lindon Victor of Grenada.

The Tampa Bay Rays announced Friday that they've placed ace Shane McClanahan on the 15-day injured list after the left-hander experienced lower back pain during his Thursday outing against the Texas Rangers. Rays president Erik Neander expressed in an interview on 95.7 WDAE & AM620 that McClanahan's injury is "pretty minor" and the two-time All-Star should only miss "two starts." Right-hander Alex Cook was called up from the Triple-A Durham Bulls to take McClanahan's roster spot. In Triple A, Cook, who's yet to pitch in MLB, has recorded a 3.78 ERA over 33 innings this season, managing to strike out 28.5% of the batters he's faced. Cook is expected to provide bullpen depth, as opposed to simply filling McClanahans rotation spot. McClanahan's injury comes against the backdrop of him not pitching for the Rays since 2023 prior to this season. In 2023, McClanahan underwent Tommy John surgery, which ultimately sidelined him for the entirety of the 2024 season. Then, prior to 2025 spring training, McClanahan experienced nerve irritation in his triceps, causing him to undergo surgery that August, as well. Through 20 starts this season, McClanahan owns a 3.09 ERA and a 9-6 record across 99.0 innings pitched. Overall, he has a career 3.04 ERA across four major-league seasons. Could the Rays make a trade for a pitcher in the wake of McClanahan's injury? They've been mentioned in trade rumors for Detroit Tigers superstar left-hander Tarik Skubal and New York Mets right-hander Freddy Peralta. The trade deadline is Aug. 3 at 6 p.m. ET.

With baseball in the sports spotlight during the final month of summer, a new womens professional baseball venture is launching this weekend. The Womens Pro Baseball League debuts on Saturday with teams representing four cities major markets of New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Boston where baseball thrives. Each of the markets was also chosen for its association for a central figure in womens professional baseball and American history. Yet the league will play all of its regular-season games 15 for each team during this inaugural campaign at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, Illinois. Saturdays first game, matching the Los Angeles Queens and New York Heights, will play before a sold-out ballpark of 5,200 fans. The San Francisco Firebells and Boston Hunters will play their opener on Sunday. But the Midwest is an integral part of womens baseball. Fans of the sports history and pop culture likely recognize the association with womens baseball and Springfield. The first professional womens baseball game, between teams named the Brunettes and Blondes, was played there in 1875. Springfield also had a team in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, the history of which became nationally known due to the 1992 film A League of Their Own. The Rockford Peaches, the main team in that story, played three hours away as part of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. (The Racine Belles and Kenosha Comets also played approximately 300 miles away in Wisconsin.)

Alastaoir Chalmers won bronze for Guernsey four years ago [PA Media]Alastair Chalmers missed out on the chance to win Guernsey's first medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.The reigning British champion, 26, came sixth in the 400m hurdles in Glasgow. It meant he could not add to the bronze medal he won in the event four years ago.Chalmers stumbled over a hurdle with around 200m to go as he challenged for the lead and lost ground he could never make up as he finished in 50.24 seconds .The race was won by Nigeria's Ezekiel Nathaniel in 48.47 seconds as England's Jake Minshull took silver and Jamaica's Assinie Wilson bronze. The result also means he misses out on becoming only the second islander to win medals at consecutive Commonwealth Games.Pistol shooter Adrian Breton remains the only person from Guernsey to reach the podium more than once - he won individual rapid fire silver in 1986, gold in 1990 and pairs bronze in 1994.Despite not winning a medal, Chalmers is still the most-decorated track and field athlete ever to come from Guernsey. He is a six-time British 400m hurdles champion - regaining the title he lost last year earlier this summer.He made the semi-finals of the 400m hurdles at the last Olympic Games, where he crashed out three-quarters of the way around after clipping a barrier.His Guernsey record of 48.30 seconds is 1.24 seconds faster than any other islander has ever managed.
