Pat Fitzgerald to rebuild Michigan State with old-school, tough, reinvigorated identity
Pat Fitzgerald to rebuild Michigan State with old-school, tough, reinvigorated identity originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Returning to Big Ten Media Days under a new banner, Pat Fitzgerald took the podium in Chicago to discuss his transition to head coach of the Michigan State Spartans.Expressing gratitude to Commissioner Tony Petitti and praising the leadership of university president Kevin Guskiewicz, Fitzgerald reflected on the warm welcome he and his family received upon arriving in East Lansing. "My emotions are I'm just excited to be in a leadership role again. But what about me is irrelevant; it's all about our guys and developing our program," Fitzgerald stated, emphasizing that his entire focus is on elevating the Spartan football program back to championship contention.Fitzgerald praised the incredible work of strength coach Joel Welsh and highlighted a milestone in the classroom, where the team achieved a program-record 3.22 team GPA during the spring semester.Discussing the seismic shifts in college football since his previous head coaching tenure, Fitzgerald pointed directly to roster retention and transfer portal roster construction as the most dramatic changes. However, he emphasized that holistic player development remains paramount. Looking ahead to fall camp, Fitzgerald noted that eliminating traditional redshirting under the five-year rule grants coaches unprecedented access to develop their entire rosters. When asked if he carried a chip on his shoulder returning to the conference, Fitzgerald responded with characteristic grit: "I wouldn't say I have a chip on my shoulder. I wouldn't say our program has a chip on our shoulder. I'd say we have a bag of chips on our shoulder. I'll leave it at that."Accompanying Fitzgerald in Chicago were three pivotal player leaders: senior linebacker Jordan Hall, local Chicago-area quarterback Alessio Milivojevic, and veteran safety Nikai Martinez.MORE:Why the College Football Playoff field should expand to 16Fitzgerald highlighted Milivojevic's unique approach to team bonding, noting that the quarterback proactively met with every incoming transfer player during the off-season.Fitzgerald also highlighted the marquee addition of special teams coordinator LeVar Woods from Iowa, praising him as an elite coach destined to become a future head coach. With Spartan Stadium set to host Toledo in just 36 days, Fitzgerald made his goal crystal clear: "Expectations are to win the Big Ten Championship full stop, and if a head coach walks up here and doesn't say that, then I'd want to check their pulse.MORE:College football rankings post-spring Top 25More Big Ten newsIllinois 2026 football scheduleMichigan 2026 football scheduleOhio State 2026 football scheduleIndiana 2026 football schedule

Oregon State WBB Players Seek Union Status in Historic Move
The latest turn in the legal fight for recognition of college athletes as employees who can form unions is taking place out west, with members of the Oregon State womens basketball team on Friday filing a petition for union representation with the states Employment Relations Board. The development is legally important for at least two reasons.More from Sportico.comBanks Are Rushing to Grab College Sports' Newest Ad SpaceSporticast: FIFA's Investment Plan, ExplainedJPMorgan's Ohio State Deal Shows Evolution of College SportsFirst, its the first time a group of female college athletes has formally sought recognition as a players union. The Oregon State players effort is occurring as womens college sports continues to grow and become more popular with fans, and 54 years after Title IX became law. However, itsnotthe first time female college athletes have sought recognition as employees. In 2016, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit denied Penn track and field athletes Gillian Berger and Taylor Hennig recognition as employees within the meaning of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), which guarantees minimum wage. Berger and Hennig came up short in part because their athletic participation was deemed too closely tied to their educational experience and amateur status.Second, Oregon State is a public university, which has major significance from a labor and employment law perspective. It means that the relevant laws and adjudicating bodies that will determine if the womens basketball team can become union members are state, not federal.Thats a key difference from efforts by football players at Northwestern in the mid-2010s to gain employment recognition and by mens basketball players at Dartmouth earlier this decade to form a union. Those players were students at private universities, so whether they were employees and could unionize was a question of federal law, the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), officials at the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and, potentially, federal courts. The Dartmouth players made history by becoming the first certified bargaining unit in college sports. They not only voted to unionize, but also won the election and their unit was certified by the NLRB. Yet the players withdrew their election petition at the end of 2024, at least in part because of concerns a favorable decision by NLRB regional director Laura Sacks might not have survived review by the agency board, which was expected to be reshaped by the incoming Trump administration. The Oregon State matter will be determined by the Oregon Employment Relations Board, which would oversee an election by the players. Decisions by the board can be challenged in Oregon courts.OSU athletic department representatives did not respond to a request for comment. The school is contractually bound by membership obligations in the Pac-12 and the NCAA, which means it cant pay players for their labor and remain in compliance with conference and NCAA rules. This was a potential conundrum for Dartmouth given its membership in the Ivy League and the NCAA, and could become one for OSU too.The basketball teams petition was made through the United College Athletes Association (UCAA), a union whose mission is to represent college athletes as humans, students and workers through collective bargaining. That objective is not just about access to pay, but also other employment benefits, such as health care, leave, access to wellness programs and various other benefits enjoyed by OSU employees. OSU is no stranger to collective bargaining, either, as its faculty and staff are unionized.UCAA says the players organizing effort began two years ago, when more than 100 college womens basketball players requested collective bargaining with the Big Ten and SEC. Those requests were rebuffed. The idea of a conference collectively bargaining with athletes from schools in the conference is noteworthy. One hurdle for collective bargaining at individual schools is that, within a conference, usually some are public and others are private, and as noted above, that means a very different legal process on whether the athletes are employees and can unionize. In fact, in some states, public university employees are prohibited or greatly limited in bargaining, while in others, the opposite is true. But a conference is private, and thus governed by federal labor law, and could theoretically function as a multi-employer bargaining unit on behalf of member schools. That topic was explored inSporticos recent story on Stanford football playersforming a fraternitywith the College Football Players Association and the aspiration of it eventually leading to conference-wide collective bargaining.A key advocate of conference-wide collective bargaining is former NLRB general counsel Jennifer Abruzzo, who in 2021 argued that college athletes are employees and should be able to unionize.Abruzzo is now a UCAA advisor and, in a statement on Friday, said, The NCAA and its members should not get a bailout that prevents a true path for these vulnerable workers, adding that the labor movement must unify around the right approach to make sure that college athletes enjoy robust collective bargaining rights.OSU went 2312 in 202526, playing a second season in the West Coast Conference while the Pac-12 re-formed. Scott Rueck has coached the team since 2010, leading it to a Pac-12 championship and Final Four berth in 2016.Rueck signed a contract extension in 2022 that will see him earn $1.05 million in 202627.The 202425 Beavers made the Elite Eight before losing their top six scorers in the transfer portal that offseason.Senior Jenna Villa, a member of the UCAAs 10-person interim executive committee, will return this season, having led OSU in scoring during the 202526 campaign after transferring from Washington State. The OSU effort is occurring as Congress struggles to pass federal legislation that would grant the NCAA and member schools limited antitrust immunity to enforce theHouse v. NCAAsettlement, eligibility and transfer rules, and revenue-sharing opportunities. The latest leading bill, the Protect College Sports Act, might not get a vote before the Senate goes on recess and faces a legislative schedule that is limited as the November midterm election approaches. Dozens of college sports reform bills have been introduced in Congress since 2021 and each one has failed to advance. But in a world where college athletes engage in collective bargaining with their school (and/or conference and the NCAA), negotiated rules related to wages, hours, and other conditions, including transfer and eligibility, would be exempt from antitrust scrutiny. Thats through the nonstatutory labor exemption, which reflects a series of U.S. Supreme Court decisions. There are practical hurdles to that idea, including whether the bargaining unit would consist of athletes from a team, or athletes from different teams at the same school, or a conference-wide entity on behalf of a sport or different sports. To date, colleges, conferences and the NCAA have been opposed to recognition of college athletes as employees, let alone union members. That opposition is under attack inJohnson v. NCAA, where the athletes argue they are student workers, much like their classmates who are in Work Study, and should be paid at least minimum wage.Best of Sportico.comCollege Athletes as Employees: Answering 25 Key QuestionsSign up for Sportico's Newsletter. Badgers remain one of the most valuable college football programs in country
BLOOMINGTON, INDIANA - NOVEMBER 15: Head coach Luke Fickell of the Wisconsin Badgers speaks to an official during the second quarter against the Indiana Hoosiers at Memorial Stadium on November 15, 2025 in Bloomington, Indiana. (Photo by Justin Casterline/Getty Images) | Getty ImagesOver the years, weve seen sales for the Big 4 sports teams continue to rise drastically, with the Seattle Seahawks being sold for a record $9.612 billion earlier this month. That has begged the question: what are the top college programs worth if they were potentially sold? The Athletic ran that exercise last year, looking at every teams revenue and inherent value based on brand power, conference value, and more.Wisconsin came in 19th in the country last year with a valuation of $801 million, which topped schools like Iowa ($709 million), Indiana ($386 million), Arkansas ($646 million), Michigan State ($708 million), Clemson ($665 million), Minnesota ($562 million), and more.Where did they come in the rankings this year?Interestingly enough, the Badgers came in at No. 19 again, only this time at a valuation of $922 million, remaining one of the top powers in college athletics. That got them ahead of Florida State, which fell two spots to No. 20 at an $819 million valuation, and still ahead of Iowa, which remained at No. 21 at an $806 million valuation. This trio shows the emphasis we put on conference affiliation, The Athletics Matt Baker said in regards to Wisconsin, Florida State, and Iowa. As Congress debates legislation thatcould freeze or limit realignment, we place an even greater premium on being in the Big Ten or SEC. That was good for Iowa and Wisconsin. The flip side is that theres more uncertainty over whether the Seminoles will have a viable way to get into the Power 2. That (and their continued on-field struggles) led us to downgrade FSU. The valuation ofSporticos top WNBA team, the Golden State Valkyries, is in the middle of this bunch at $850 million. At No. 19, Wisconsin ranked as the eighth-highest Big Ten team. Heres the full Big Ten rankings:1. Ohio State (No. 2 overall, $2.3 billion valuation)2. Michigan (No. 4 overall, $2 billion valuation)3. USC (T-No. 7 overall, $1.6 billion valuation)4. Penn State (No. 10 overall, $1.4 billion valuation)5.Oregon (No. 13 overall, $1.13 billion valuation)6.Nebraska (T-15 overall, $1.06 billion valuation)6. Washington (T-No. 15 overall, $1.06 billion valuation)8. Wisconsin (No. 19 overall, $922 million valuation)9. Iowa (No. 21 overall, $806 million valuation)10. Indiana (No. 22 overall, $696 million valuation)11. Michigan State (No. 24 overall, $686 million valuation)12. Minnesota (No. 28 overall, $629 million valuation)13. Illinois (No. 30 overall, $568 million valuation)14. Northwestern (No. 36 overall, $498 million valuation)15. Purdue (No. 39 overall, $450 million valuation)16. UCLA (No. 45 overall, $363 million valuation)17. Maryland (No. 46 overall, $359 million valuation)18. Rutgers (No. 52 overall, $314 million valuation)

Weekend Warm-up: Four things that need to happen for Bayern Munich to maximize this two season window
ROTTACH-EGERN, GERMANY - JULY 28: Head coach Vincent Kompany of FC Bayern Mnchen smiles during the FC Bayern Mnchen summer training camp at Stadion am Birkenmoos on July 28, 2026 in Rottach-Egern, Germany. (Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images) | Getty ImagesThe clock has started on the two-season window at Bayern Munich. As the roster currently stands, the Bavarians are set up to make a strong run at winning a treble this season and next season. The talent and depth far exceeds even last season and right now the team appears to be one of the best in the world. From there, the future is a tad cloudy, but that is a discussion for another time. So, what needs to happen for Bayern Munich to fulfill its potential over the next two seasons. Lets explore:Finalize the contract situations of Harry Kane and Michael OliseThere is no doubt about it at this point Bayern Munich has no intention of selling Harry Kane, nor Michael Olise. Sowhats next? The Bavarians need to get both men extensions and hopefully soon. Lets not let any potential distractions linger into the heart of the season. Both will be expensive and both will thrust the two players to the very top of the clubs pay scale when factoring in the salary + bonus structure.Without Kane or Olise, this team likely cannot get over the hump. Find out what Musiala and Davies are now and what they can be moving forwardInjuries (and the handling of those injuries) have hampered both Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies. If neither player appears capable of reaching their previous level of play by February, it might be time to explore what each can bring back on the open market. That might seems like a lot that needs to happen, but such is life in big time football these days. The best case scenario is that both players are healthy, show they can get back to their respective previous levels of play, and Bayern Munich is set up at those positions for years to come. As it stands, that outcome is at least somewhat in doubt.Maybe more than any other two players this season, 2026/27 feels very much like a prove it scenario for the two young stars. With Bayern Munich already having brought in a contingency plan for each position, it seems like the club is at least a little unsure about what the future holds for two guys, who seemed like foundational pieces for Bayern Munichs future just 18 months ago. Embrace RotationThis team is so deep and so talented that there is no reason to wear anyone down. Sure, all of these players always want to be on the field, but with this kind of greatness within reach, it will be Kompanys job to make sure that the team stays together through some internal difficulties that could develop with a more liberal approach to rotating the squad. This includes the goalkeeper position. Speaking of whichGive Urbig more startsThe minute that Manuel Neuer decided to come back for another season, it was assumed that he might give up some game time. That might not be the case, though, and Kompany again will be tasked with making some tough decisions. Urbig is the clubs future and while Neuer undoubtedly has some good games still left in the holster, it would make sense to reduce his workload in hopes of seeing those top-tier efforts more consistently. It does not need to be a 50/50 split (though that would be awesome), but it cannot be 80/20 (or worse). Like Joshua Kimmich, Neuer is almost being vilified these days and that seems like things might be going too far with fans. However, he will have to cede some time. If he does not or will not, Kompanys handling of the situation could be one of the most important aspects of the 2026/27.Song of the Week: There She Goes by The LasIve been on a big 90s kick again, so having traveled down that rabbit hole, I came across quite a few songs that I have not heard in years. The advent of 90s alt rock and its varied sound left many different styles of bands fitting into the window of alt rock. I always liked this one below from The Las.Originally released in 1988, it was re-released in 1990 and became the bands only massive hit. While one-hit wonders are ridiculed at times, there is a certain coolness to being able to create something wildly popular and having that one moment. Enjoy: Entertainment RundownHouse of the Dragon Season 3, Episode 6Another week, another solid episode. Lets dive in: The episode started with the end of Ser Criston Cole. It was coming and he knew it. The cool thing was that we got to see Cole in battle where he absolutely wrecked shop. Having already come to terms with his fate weeks ago, Cole never got to go down with his sword in his hand even though he wanted to fight 1 v 2 for the honor of his men. While it stayed true to the book in some respects, it was tough to see Cole taken down by arrows from a distance. Fabian Frankel did a tremendous job in the role and Cole was one of the top characters in the show. His presence will be missed as this show rounds into its home stretch.Admittedly, the whole ambush sequence felt rushed and did not give Cole the justice that the character deserved in terms of seeing his warrior skills. While it was great to see the brief action, his decision to push forward into the trap sort of betrayed his clear military skill. Aside of Cole, there were other important developments that kept the story progressing. The hostilities and subsequent cat and mouse game between Queen Rhaenyra and Ormund Hightower reached a new level.Ormund and his antics are still one of the great developments of this season. Rhaenyras decision to send assassins dressed in Baratheon gear was bold but seeing it sniffed out (no pun intended) and felled by Gwayne was awesome. It is always great to see Daemon Targaryen show some of his badassery. Daemon remains the wild card of the show and is easily the most complex character. Aemond seems like he is heading down a mystic road and could be poised to make a grand re-entry into this war. While his role for this particular season has been reduced, he seems to be at least somewhat affected by the renowned Targaryen insanity. Queen Rhaenyra sending Alicent to lure out Aemond is a move that could backfire. Jon Roxton ambushing Corlys Velaryon as the episodes final scene certainly sets the table for a wild end to this season. Overall, it was a very solid episode. I do not expect greatness from this show at all and because of that I am no longer disappointed. I have been freed from the burden of expectation and because of that, I actually just enjoy the show more. During the first two seasons, I was yearning to see something mind blowing or great. That didnt happen, but since I readjusted my expectations, I have really grown to like this season (flaws aside).Rating: 7.50/10.00Prediction RecordsTotal:122-59Perfect Picks:22Bundesliga Last Matchday:0-0Bundesliga Overall:0-0DFB-Pokal:0-0World Cup: 71-28International Friendlies:50-30Champions League: 0-0Club Friendlies:1-1Franz Beckenbauer Supercup:0-0Join the conversation!Sign up for a user accountand get:New, improved notifications system!Fewer adsCreatecommunity postsComment on articles, community postsRec comments, community posts

Andy Reid says Mansoor Delane playing one-handed early in camp
ST. JOSEPH, MO - JULY 29: Mansoor Delane #5 during during the Kansas City Chiefs training camp on July 29, 2026 at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, MO. (Photo by Scott Winters/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images) | Icon Sportswire via Getty ImagesEarly on, most vibes coming out of the Kansas City Chiefs training camp at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph have been positive through three full-squad workouts. One unfortunate exception has been the status of rookie cornerback Mansoor Delane, the sixth overall selection in Aprils draft. Delane suffered a shoulder injury earlier this summer in organized team activities (OTAs). He was reportedly just cleared for practice as rookies arrived to St. Joseph last week.Delane has participated in every practice dating to the rookie portion last weekend. He has worn a yellow, non-contact jersey each time. Speaking after Fridays session, head coach Andy Reid described Delane as in an unusual position of practicing while still recovering from injury. Hes a tough kid, the coach remarked. He was a state wrestling champ and all that stuff. Tough kid. He wants to be out there. He wants to do everything. Were not allowing him to use that arm. Hes out there playing kind of one-handed. Until hes completely clear, were going to keep an eye on him.Rookie CB Mansoor Delane breaks up the pass to Cyrus Allen#Chiefs l #ChiefsKingdompic.twitter.com/1F7bp2e0ZJ Sports Radio 810 WHB (@SportsRadio810) July 31, 2026As such, Delanes focus in camp so far has been on what his feet can do, as opposed to arm placement while covering receivers. While Reid stressed the importance of time, fans may see his work lessened in the coming days as the team transitions to padded practices. Still, the rookie is getting valuable work in during his first camp working with Chiefs defensive backs coach Dave Merritt. When we get into the contact stuff, Reid predicted, well back off a little bit on him there. But hes working his tail off and doing what he can do with that. Its great for him because he has to work his feet, his techniques, his level, how high are you rising up as guys are making moves on you, are you pedaling, what are you doing there. It actually works to his benefit in the long run.Ultimately, the Chiefs hope for Delane to join with second-year cornerback Nohl Williams for a pair of young starters at an increasingly expensive position. Williams has been one of the stars of camp so far. Reid is happy with the work Williams has put in with Merritt ahead of Year Two.Up to this point, hes done a nice job, Reid observed of Williams. He had a good offseason programOut here, hes been strong where he can bend, maintain that bend and still move with his feet. Dave overemphasizes all of that: use your feet [and] then be able to build cushions from there and angles. Hes done a nice job of that. Hes really worked hard at that.

    OFFICIAL: Matas Moreno to Venezia
So long, Matty. | Jose Manuel Alvarez Rey/Getty ImagesAnother Fiorentina outcast has had his future resolved. Venezia announced yesterday that its acquired Matas Moreno on loan. According to Nicol Schira, its an initial 500,000 fee with a 5.5 million option to make the move permanent. The Viola will keep a 50% sell-on clause as well. Previous reporting claimed that the centerback was close to Wrexham for 8.5 million and a smaller sell-on percentage but chose to stay in Italy (or rather, the top flight) instead.Dalle di Crdoba alle di Venezia.Vamos, Matas.https://t.co/0NJ8mZ3iJz#ArancioNeroVerde pic.twitter.com/yelF0bq8QG Venezia FC (@VeneziaFC_IT) July 30, 2026It ends a brief and slightly mystifying tenure in Florence for the 22-year-old. Bought in 2024 for 5 million from Belgrano, he was always a bit of a project and barely played under Raffaele Palladino before getting shipped to Levante last year on loan, where he excelled, sparking interest from a couple Premier League clubs that ultimately came to nothing. Its a fine move for all parties. Morenos got the physical qualities of a big-time centerback and could earn a massive move. Hes big and fast and is better on the ball than Id thought when he arrived. More importantly, he plays with a ton of character. Hes fearless in the air and in the tackle and possesses that prototypical Argenine swagger. It wouldnt surprise me to see him at a European-level club in the next couple years.Fiorentinas meltdown last year probably doomed him, though. Unable to push past Marin Pongrai, Luca Ranieri, or Pietro Comuzzo, he never wouldve developed at the Viola Park. Sending him to Venice, where hell start every game for Giovanni Stroppa, makes sense. Hell improve and could provide a nice little financial boost if/when the Lagunari get a good enough offer. Were I King of the Viola Park, I wouldve kept Moreno around for a season to see what he offered under Fabio Grosso. We still dont know his ceiling but I think its pretty high. Its a bit frustrating to ship him out like this as Fiorentina will now just get half of any big transfer fee instead of all of it but, given the timing of everything, it makes sense, especially after Fabio Paratici sprang for Viery and Radu Drguin with his first two moves. Along with the exit of Pietro Comuzzo, this clears out a crowded centerback group, leaving just Nicols Valentini and perhaps one of Marin Pongrai and Luca Ranieri as the odd men out.Best of luck, Matas. Its a shame it didnt work out but thats on Fiorentina, not you.

The fan support, student body, and overall energy will make a triumphant return as Sam Houston football returns to campus in Huntsville, TX. Elliott T. Bowers Stadium was closed in 2025 due to ongoing renovations, but on July 30, the refurbished venue reopened its doors.Ive spent more time in Bowers Stadium than anybody, Sam Houston athletic director Bobby Williams said at the stadium unveiling. As an assistant football coach, as an assistant athletic director, running the stadium, all the band festivals, all the high school playoff games, our games, and then having been athletic director for 29 years, nobodys seen this place or knows this place better than I do. Its fun when I walk into this building, I dont know where Im going because its all new.Plans for a major renovation date back to 2020 when Dr. Alisa White first became president of the university. While touring the venue with Williams, her first observation was, We need a new pressbox, a statement uttered three seasons before Sam Houston joined the FBS.An expanded, modernized pressbox was one signature upgrade to the renovated Bowers Stadium. Other changes include more suite level seating in the upper levels, widened concourses, and expanded access to restrooms and concessions designed to reduce time spent waiting in line.Sam Houston also added a living room feel to Bowers by implementing sofas, settees, and other soft seating options. The overall capacity doesnt change much from its previous mark of 14,000, and all seating remains contained between the 5-yard lines. Still, Dr. White stated the stadium can accommodate several hundred more spectators than before, with opportunities to add further seating at the field level. The input I had at the beginning was I wanted it to have a boutique feel, Dr. White said. I wanted it to be very different from any other stadiums that you would see, not just in our footprint, but around Texas, particularly even in our conference. I wanted to make sure when you came into this facility, you would see our brand immediately. I wasnt concerned about doing a 360 (degree seating). I wanted this to be a real icon I was not going for big. I was going for first-class, boutique, and I think we got there. The total cost of the project, along with Sam Houstons other athletic renovations to the Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum and tennis facilities, sums to $90 million. The Bearkats move to Conference USA in 2023 helped make these upgrades financially feasible, and the desire to invest in such facilities was a driving force behind leaving the FCS for the FBS.When Dr. White and I talked about moving to Conference USA and FBS, we knew there would be challenges, Williams said. The curveball has been the rev-share part of it and all the different changes like the portal. That makes it challenging because you do have to pay for these buildings, and how do you find the revenue streams to do that? That is one of the major reasons we moved to FBS. When we won the national championship in 2020 and we played on ABC and ESPN, I think it actually cost us $300,000 that year to play those games. Then we went to Conference USA and our income dramatically increased.Even though Sam Houstons budget has grown substantially since joining the CUSA, the Bearkats are still navigating the modern world of college football economics. In 2024, former head coach K.C. Keeler estimated the program to have the least amount of NIL money in the country. Williams acknowledges that Sam Houston struggled with finances early but believes the renovated Bowers Stadium is a positive step in the programs commitment to investment.Raising our budget to compete at the Conference USA level and getting in the rev-share game we struggled early, but now were in the game, and were in a very positive part of that, Williams said. Were able to compete at that level and recruit people. Im pleased with everything weve done. Its taken us a little bit longer, but thats the challenge. The renovation may also spur another source of revenue. One potential fundraising method for the athletic programs involves securing naming rights for the renovated stadium, and discussions have already commenced. Were in talks with some on naming, but were looking for the right partner somebody who wants to partner with us but also somebody whose brand aligns with ours, Dr. White said. Id love to be able to announce that today, but we are still seeking that perfect partner, and we are in talks with some.Until that deal is finalized, Bowers Stadium will continue bearing the name it was given when first constructed in 1985. And it will provide a true home to a Sam Houston program that didnt have that luxury a year ago.My whole goal was really to elevate the fan experience, Dr. Alisa White said. Bearkat fans are avid. They deserve a phenomenal experience, and thats what were gonna give them. The new Bowers Stadium will host its first football game Saturday, Sept. 12 when Tulsa pays Sam Houston a visit for a non-conference matchup.
