The 2026 Commonwealth Games have been brought to an end in spectacular fashion with music, dancing and a fireworks display over the River Clyde.Thousands of spectators packed into the Glasgow Hydro on Sunday evening for the closing ceremony, which brought down the curtain on 11 days of sporting action at venues across the city.The event also marked the handover to the Indian city of Amdavad, which will host the Games in 2030.The ceremony featured a packed line-up of Scottish music talent alongside some of Indias biggest dance and music stars, in what was billed as a spectacle that captures the spirit of two nations coming together on one stage.The event began with the vast hall plunged into darkness, with only waving phone lights visible, and some of the audience chanting No Scotland, no party.The lights then came up for an on-stage performance by Scottish singer Sandi Thom, and a music video by singer Cammy Barnes projected onto the big screen.A procession of athletes, volunteers and the flags of the 74 competing nations and territories then entered to the tune of a rousing pop anthem, belted out by Australian artist Delta Goodrem, who shimmered under the lights in a sparkly white dress.The many Team Scotland representatives sported kilts and traffic cone hats, in a nod to the Glaswegian tradition of coning statues, which captured the worlds attention during the recent FIFA World Cup.As the procession converged on the central point of the Saltire-shaped staging, Goodrem was joined on stage by Barnes, with the two singing a duet.This was followed by pipers, a brass band and kilted drummers taking to the stage to play the riff from the Primal Scream song "Loaded," accompanied by tracksuit-clad dancers, and a montage of highlights from this years Games projected onto the big screen.A video of Scottish writer Jackie Kay reading her poem "Dear Green Hollow" then took the intensity down a notch.The poem included the lines: May you leave with the spirit of Glasgows good grace, bottled and kept safe.And in India, in four years time, may the Glasgow genie come oot the bottle in Amdavad in Gujarat to wish you well.After a performance from Scottish band Elephant Sessions the handover ceremony began, officially transferring host duties to the city of Amdavad.Scottish para-athlete Melanie Woods was named winner of the David Dixon award, which is given to an outstanding athlete at each Commonwealth Games.To complete the handover, the Commonwealth Sport flag was brought onto the stage and passed from Scottish to Indian officials, ending up with Harsh Sanghavi, deputy first minister of Gujarat province.This was followed by a performance welcoming Amdavad as the next host city, featuring some of Indias biggest dance and music stars.Dancers in brightly coloured costumes packed the stage for a performance celebrating 150 years of "Vande Mataram," the national song of India and a symbol of unity, led by actress and former Miss World Manushi Chhillar.This was followed by a duet featuring Indian sitarist Rishab Rikhiram and Scottish piper Ross Ainslie, in a twist on a classical Indian duet known as a jugalbandi, accompanied by dancers in gold dresses.The duke of Edinburgh then thanked the athletes, volunteers, officials and organisers.You have inspired us and hopefully future generations. You have also demonstrated what unites us. Thank you all, thank you Glasgow, he said.The speech was followed by a ceilidh for the Commonwealth organised by street dance group Diversity, with volunteers and some of the athletes joining the dancing.Glasgow 2026 hero Mop Man also made an appearance, prompting rapturous cheers as he delivered his signature cleaning-inspired dance routine to the strains of club classic "Bits And Pieces."Glasgow rockers Simple Minds then took to the stage to bring events to a close inside the Hydro.They finished with their hit "Dont You (Forget About Me)," while outside the venue the skies were lit up by a dramatic fireworks display.

The Philadelphia 76ers are going to look pretty different when they take the floor in the 2026-27 season. President of Basketball Operations Mike Gansey and the new-look front office completely overhauled the roster as they made plenty of big additions.The first big domino was acquiring Jaylen Brown from the rival Boston Celtics. The 2024 finals MVP averaged 28.7 points in Boston in 2025-26 and will be a big part of this team's success. Then, after weeks of deliberation and waiting, the Sixers landed some guy named LeBron James. The future Hall of Famer is a 4-time champion and is arguably the greatest player to ever play this game. Even at 41, James is still a star in this league.The Sixers also added Anfernee Simons, Dean Wade, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and others who will play major roles for Philadelphia. Simons hopped on "Cousins" with Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady--an original series from AMP Sports--and explained how Philadelphia will need to succeed:I had a conversation with Tyrese (Maxey). Everybody understands theres going to have to be sacrifice. I think that's pretty obvious. We understand that the stakes are high and a lot of pressure is on us. Everybody expects us to win. I feel like the message should be none of that matters right now based on what we look like on paper.The Sixers will certainly need everybody to be all in and sacrifice as there will be much to figure out in the upcoming season. The offensive hierarchy will need to be ironed out as well as rotations and roles. Simons will likely serve as Philadelphia's microwave scorer off the bench, but even he and the second unit will need to figure it all out. The Detroit Tigers blew out the Athletics on Sunday, 11-0. The move helped Detroit improve to 53-58 on the season, but it was notably the first game the team played after trading away former ace Tarik Skubal to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night. Keider Montero got the starting nod as the Tigers look to rebuild their rotation down the stretch of the season. He threw six innings, allowing just two hits while walking two. The win pushed Montero to an 8-6 record on the year, and dropped his ERA to 3.17. Left-hander Tyler Holton was the first out of the bullpen. He ran into trouble, allowing two hits and getting pulled after registering just two outs. Drew Anderson was able to get out of the inning without allowing any runs. Anderson allowed a hit in the eighth inning, but struck out two to keep the Athletics scoreless.Enmanuel De Jesus came on for the ninth inning, even though Detroit wasnt close to a save situation. He allowed two hits, but struck out three to close out the game. On the offensive side of the ball, Spencer Torkelson went 2-5 with three RBI. Catcher Eduardo Valencia had two two-RBI doubles, finishing the game 2-5 with four RBI. James Outman added a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put Detroit up 11-0. The Tigers may not be done ahead of Mondays trade deadline. Detroit has consistently been rumored to be shopping SP Casey Mize. If that were to happen, the Tigers would have traded away their top two starting pitchers within three days of each other. For now, Detroits rotation looks like it will be a combination of Mize, Framber Valdez, Troy Melton, and Montero. Jackson Jobe, who last pitched on May 28 and has been on the 60-day IL with an elbow injury, is set to make a rehab start soon and could be close to returning.

The Lansing All-City Championship Golf Tournament came down to a dramatic finish on Aug. 2 at Forest Akers West Golf Course with the final grouping all starting under-par through two days. Brad Phillips, Dan Ellis, and Justin Steinman were all within one stroke of each other entering the third and final day, with Phillips and Steinman tied for the lead.Heading into the 18th hole, Phillips and Ellis were tied at 5-under-par, with Steinman one stroke back. All three golfers reached the green on the par-4 in two.Phillips two-putted for a par and both Ellis and Steinman missed par putts, giving Phillips the championship."It's been a process for years to try to get here, and to finally come through, it feels great," Phillips said. "I've played this course many times, and I had seen that last putt before, so I was really confident in at least two-putting it. I almost put it in, but it just died on me."Phillips, who finished fourth at the All-City Tournament last summer, shot a 6-under-par 66 at the West course in the first round, followed by an even-par 72 at the East course on Saturday. He then finished at 1-over-par 73 in Sunday's final round to finish the tournament at 5-under.Phillips had a two-stroke lead over both Ellis and Steinman heading into the 16th hole, but Ellis would record back-to-back birdies on 16 and 17 to draw even with Phillips, with Steinman recording a birdie on the 17th to get within one stroke."Those two guys are accomplished golfers, much more than myself, so I knew it was going to be a tough task, but I just battled through," Phillips said. "I didn't even check the leaderboard until I was walking up 18 and I saw we were tied, so I just knew I had to hit a good one in that moment."Phillips wins the $800 purse, with Ellis finishing in second ($600) at 4-under and Steinman in third ($500) at 3-under-par.
