Report: Fulham in advanced talks to sign 25m midfielder
Report: Fulham in advanced talks to sign 25m midfielderFulham Push Ahead for Shea Charles as 25m Southampton Talks AdvanceFulham are moving with real intent in the market and their latest piece of business looks increasingly significant. According to TeamTalk, the west London club are stepping up negotiations for Southampton midfielder Shea Charles, with a deal worth around 25m now firmly in view. The 22-year-old has become a major target as Fulham reshape their squad under new head coach Alvaro Arbeloa. The report states that Charles has emerged as a priority target and that the player is keen on a switch to Fulham as the club look to add depth, mobility and quality in the middle of the pitch.Shea Charles transfer gathers paceThere is a growing sense that Fulham have timed their move well. Southampton are said to be open to a sale if their valuation is met, while negotiations between the two clubs have progressed positively in recent days. That is a notable development given the level of interest around the Northern Ireland international.Leeds United had already made their play, with bids of 20million and 23million rejected, but Fulham now appear best placed to get the deal done. TeamTalk reports that Fulham have now moved to the front of the queue, which is an important indication of where this chase currently stands. From Fulhams perspective, there is logic to the pursuit. Charles delivered six goals and two assists in 38 Championship appearances last season, and his game appears to suit a side seeking control and energy. He can sit deep, cover ground and also influence attacks, qualities that were highlighted by his versatility and composure in central midfield.Southampton midfielder fits Arbeloa planCharles profile also aligns with a modern recruitment strategy. He is young, has strong developmental upside and already carries meaningful senior experience. The report adds that he views Arbeloas project as an ideal platform for his continued development, while personal terms are not expected to prove a major obstacle. In transfer language, that usually points to a deal with solid foundations.Photo IMAGOThere are still details to settle, and Manchester City hold a sell-on clause from his 2023 move, but the momentum appears to be with Fulham. If talks continue on their current path, this could become another notable summer arrival after Gonzalo Garcia, Cesar Palacios and Jonah Kusi-Asare.At 25m, Fulham would be making a clear statement. They are not simply reacting to the market, they are identifying a player they believe can grow quickly in the Premier League and acting decisively. Our ViewAs Fulham fans, this is exactly the sort of report that gets the excitement going. Shea Charles feels like a very Fulham signing in the best possible way, young, hungry, technically sharp and ready for the next step. When you read that he is keen on a switch to Fulham and that he views Arbeloas project as an ideal platform for his continued development, it is hard not to feel encouraged. What stands out most is that Fulham seem to be winning a competitive race. Leeds have already had serious offers turned away, yet Fulham are now to the front of the queue. That suggests the club are being decisive and persuasive, two traits supporters always want to see in a transfer window.Charles also sounds like the right fit for how supporters want to see Fulham evolve. We need midfielders who can handle the ball, break lines, work hard and play with maturity. His return of six goals and two assists in a strong Championship campaign points to a player who can influence games in different ways.25m is serious money, but this feels like investment rather than risk. If Arbeloa wants athleticism, control and long-term value, Charles ticks plenty of boxes. For fans, the most exciting part is that this does not feel like the end of the business, it feels like another sign that Fulham are building something with purpose this summer.

Price Needed to Test Newcastle for Lewis Hall Revealed Amid Manchester United Interest

(Photo by Michael Driver/MI News/NurPhoto via Getty Images) | NurPhoto via Getty ImagesManchester Uniteds pursuit of a new left-back has repeatedly led back to one familiar name throughout the summer, but Newcastle United have consistently maintained the same position despite growing interest from Old Trafford. That stance has not changed, but Sky Sports believes an extraordinary offer could get a serious conversation with the Magpies started.During Tuesdays Sky Sports Transfer Talk show, the broadcasters panel discussed what it would realistically cost Manchester United to tempt Newcastle into selling Hall. While one pundit initially suggested a fee above 50 million, that starting point was quickly raised.Way higher, I think. Way higher, the panel responded. Its just because look at the market and the way its been set. I just think it would probably be 70 million-plus for Newcastle to sell."I think it would be 70m plus for Newcastle to sell" How much could Lewis Hall cost Manchester United if they went in for him? pic.twitter.com/pYs0O5dSTE Sky Sports Premier League (@SkySportsPL) August 4, 2026The discussion continued by arguing Halls value extends well beyond his age and current reputation, which are already two strong reasons for Newcastle to retain the defender.Lewis Hall is not 50 million. 50 million would be a bargain for him at this point, I think, with all the things you said and with the market set the way it is, the panel said. The latest comments come after a string of reports linking Hall with Manchester United. Earlier this week, The i Paper reported Newcastle consider the England international unequivocally not for sale and internally view him as untouchable under new head coach Matthias Jaissle. Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed Manchester United have internally approved Hall as a target, although he has consistently stressed Newcastle have no intention of selling the 21-year-old.Hall remains under contract until 2029, placing Newcastle in a strong negotiating position. The former Chelsea academy graduate has developed into one of the Premier Leagues most promising young full-backs since completing his permanent move to St. James Park in 2024 for around 28 million, with his ability to play both at left-back and in midfield only increasing his value up to his current 34 million market value.Even after the departures of Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali, and Bruno Guimaraes, Newcastle appears determined not to sanction another major sale involving one of its young cornerstones. If Manchester United really did offer 70 million or more for Lewis Hall, would you still keep him, or is there a price Newcastle simply cant refuse? Seattle Mariners Find Their Spark in 4-2 Win Against Detroit Tigers
Seattle Mariners center fielder Julio Rodriguez speaks to the media after a 4-2 win against the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. | Teren Kowatsch/Roundtable SportsSEATTLE The Seattle Marinerswere able to display success in every facet of a very eventful game, which resulted in a 4-2 win for the home squad against the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday at T-Mobile Park. The Mariners and Tigers went through the top of the sixth without scoring a run, which gave Seattle a 14.2-inning streak without a run post-trade deadline, including an 8-0 loss against the Tigers on Tuesday.Seattle broke that streak with a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth. With two outs, Mariners left fielder Randy Arozarena hit a double and right fielder Dominic Canzone was intentionally walked so Detroit reliever Brenan Hanifee could face center fielder Julio Rodriguez.Rodriguez made the Tigers pay for that decision immediately and hit a three-run, first-pitch, opposite-field shot to right field to give the M's a 3-0 lead."I had no emotions, honestly," Rodriguez said after the game Wednesday. " ... Because if I start getting emotional about it, I feel like that plays right into their hands. I just tried to stay focus and just tried to get my pitch and execute."Oppo-tacos are back on the menu pic.twitter.com/YaxofSgAZH Seattle Mariners (@Mariners) August 6, 2026That lead preserved through the seventh inning, in large part due to Seattle starting pitcher Bryan Woo.The 2025 All-Star struck out five, walked one, hit three batters and allowed three hits in seven innings of work. His shutout outing was bolstered by a stellar defensive showcase by his corner outfielders. In the top of the fourth, Canzone delivered a rocket from right field to keep Detroit second baseman Gleyber Torres from advancing to second. The next at-bat, Arozarena delivered a throw to third baseman Brendan Donovan from left field to get out Torres, who attempted to stretch to third from first on a single hit by designated hitter Dillon Dingler. Two batters later, Arozarena made a leaping grab at the left field wall to rob a potential three-run homer hit by Tigers left fielder Riley Greene."Overall, I think it was a great defensive inning," Arozarena said in a postgame interview via interpreter Freddy Llanos. "The other team put some good bats to the ball. ... Overall, just the whole team, it was important to keep the score at zero."Randy Arozarena gets WAY up to make this grab and prevent a run pic.twitter.com/sFVSRwR9qf MLB (@MLB) August 6, 2026Woo's shutout seven-inning gem rewarded the defense, then the game took an interesting turn in the ninth inning. In the top of the eighth, after three Detroit batters and catcher Cal Raleigh were hit by pitches throughout the game, Mariners reliever Gabe Speier plunked a fifth batter, Torres. That resulted in the Tigers second baseman getting in Raleigh's face, which cleared the benches and the bullpens. No punches were thrown, but umpires made the decision to eject Speier from the game after issuing warnings to both benches. This brought out Seattle manager Dan Wilson, who was tossed after protesting his reliever being sent off."It's always frustrating when your guy's the guy that gets thrown out," Wilson said after the game. "I think their guy hit somebody and there's no consequences. Just frustrating. I was just glad that we were able to come out of that. Even though Bazardo gave up the homer, able to get out of that inning. ... It was situation where they felt one way and I didn't and that's kind of the way it went."T8: Seattle 3, Detroit 0.Benches and bullpens clear here after Gabe Speier hits Gleyber Torres with a pitch.Looked like Torres got in Raleighs face before benches cleared. Raleigh was hit earlier and five players have been hit today.#Mariners#TridentsUppic.twitter.com/7UxcF8SCb3 Teren Kowatsch (@Teren_Kowatsch) August 6, 2026Speier's exit came with two outs, which forced the Mariners to go to right-handed reliever Eduard Bazardo for the final out of the inning.Dingler, the first Detroit batter up after the scuffle, hit a two-run homer to left-center field to cut Seattle's lead to 3-2. Bazardo struck out Greene looking for the final out of the inning.Mariners shortstop Colt Emerson bolstered the Mariners lead back to multiple runs after he hit a solo home run to right field, which resulted in the eventual final of 4-2.Colt puts a JOLT in that one! #TidentsUppic.twitter.com/Sm8HsbtLKn Seattle Mariners (@Mariners) August 6, 2026Andres Munoz took the mound for the ninth and struck out the first two Tigers batters up before Cole Young capped off a solid defensive night for the team my making a diving grab and the throw to first for the game-clinching groundout."It's been an ugly season in terms of what we expected and what we wanted," Woo said in a postgame interview. "But we still can do what we want to do in terms of (what) the American League looks like and what the (AL West) looks like. That's the weird thing about baseball."Seattle improved to 56-59 with the win and pulled to within 2.5 games of first place in the American League West and one game of the final AL wild card spot. The Mariners will look to clinch their second-straight series win in the rubber match against Detroit at 1:10 p.m. PT on Thursday at T-Mobile Park. Bryce Miller will start for Seattle and Framber Valdez will start for the Tigers.
