We couldn't hear each other.What could be heard was the roar of a Braves crowd that relished in the unorthodox two-run tater and eventually celebrated an 11-3 win, Atlantas eighth straight. Acua also hit a solo shot in the eighth inning. Howie Roseman remains impressed with how Jalen Hurts has handled everything the Philadelphia Eagles have placed in front of him. During an appearance with Kay Adams, Philadelphias general manager was asked about Hurts and the possibility of another contract extension. Roseman did not offer any indication that an agreement was close, but he provided another strong endorsement of the Eagles franchise quarterback.When you are around somebody for as long as youve been around, youve got a pretty good feel about who the person is and who the player is, Roseman said.Hurts signed a five-year, $255 million extension in April 2023 that keeps him under contract through the 2028 season. The Eagles have time before another agreement becomes necessary, but the quarterback market continues to rise, and Philadelphia has regularly moved early to retain its cornerstone players.Roseman focused on Hurts ability to handle change.The 28-year-old is learning from his sixth offensive coordinator since joining the Eagles as a second-round pick in 2020. McClelland was previously the AD at Rice and has previous stops at McNeese State and Louisiana Tech, as well as a stint as deputy AD at Vanderbilt on his resume.While McClelland brings plenty of experience to his new gig, he made quite an odd first impression at his introductory press conference on Thursday when he took a shot at in-state rival Indiana.Every recruit, every current student-athlete will hear this message repeatedly we are here to win championships, McClelland said. Meanwhile, the schools football team hasnt won a conference game since 2023, when a 3531 win over Indiana prompted the firing of the Hoosiers then-coach Tom Allen and the eventual hiring of Curt Cignetti.McClellands comments were rather bizarre given Indianas recent championship success. Maybe he was trying to have his own Cignetti moment the Hoosiers coach made a splash before he ever coached a game at Indiana with bold statements about his ability to win and yelling to basketball fans, Purdue sucks! while being introduced. If it worked out for Cignetti, maybe this will work out for McClelland too.Unfortunately, talking smack is the easy part of the equation. Now the Boilermakers need to win a championship, which they havent done since taking the womens team golf title in 2010.The mens basketball side feels like the most likely champion, but maybe Purdue can write its own epic college football story, as Indiana did last year. After seven winning seasons and two trips to the Division I state tournament, Tom Marker has stepped down as Olentangy Orange baseball coach to focus on teaching.Marker, 45, submitted his resignation to athletic director Andre Nash on Aug. 6. Marker is asixth-grade math teacher at Olentangy Berlin Middle School, a position he has held since the school opened in 2023.I would loveto coach again, but given my current position and how much I appreciate and respect the Berlin Middle School administration, I need to put more energy and effort into my teaching, and that doesnt allow me to give our baseball guys what they deserve from a time and energy perspective, Marker said. I love teaching in Olentangy and thats the most important part.Orange went 158-53 in those seven seasons under Marker. The Pioneers were 24-6 this spring, losing 5-0to eventual champion Cincinnati St. Xavier in a state semifinal.In 2023, Orange lost the state final 4-1 to Cincinnati Moeller.Our parents are unreal; our kids are unreal, Marker said. A lot of people are getting out of this [coaching] profession because they say the parents are crazy. Our parents are so supportive. I have no gripes about our baseball program. The facilities are great. The support is unreal.My assistant coaches are my best friends. I dont know how many coaching staffs can say theyve been the same coaching staff since I started there. That part stinks. The 2020 season was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.Marker, who also was the pitching coach at Grove City in 2009, succeeded Phil Callaghan at Orange. Callaghan went 173-56 in eight seasons with a state tournament berth in 2017.The standard is not going to change, Marker said. Whoever is lucky enough to land in that position, theyre going to be in a good position regardless.Nash said Marker has made an extraordinary impact on Orange baseball, the Orange community and the Olentangy Local School District.Marker has mentored several talented players, including 2023 Orange graduate Charlie Scholvin, who went on to play at Toledo and was selected in the 15th round of the 2026 MLB Draft by the Minnesota Twins. The shortstop signed his rookie deal and reported to the teams facility in Fort Myers, Florida, on July 19.Scholvins brother, Maverick, helped Orange reach state this spring as a junior. He has committed to Bowling Green.Hes been my mentor for three years now, Maverick said of Marker. Hes taught me a lot of what I know about the game, a lot of different situations.
