Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has filed a defamation lawsuit against Crystal Palace after fans unfurled a banner which showed him holding a gun to player Morgan Gibbs-Whites head.Marinakis legal team lodged the claim on Monday, nearly a year on from the banners display during the Premier League clash between the two clubs at Selhurst Park.The banner, raised in the Holmesdale Road End where the club ultras are situated, referenced Forest talisman Gibbs-Whites sudden transfer U-turn and the awkward interview he subsequently did with the club, during which Marinakis was anchored to his side.The banner also included unsubstantiated claims against Marinakis, a Greek shipping magnate, who has repeatedly, vehemently denied the allegations.He is now suing in the High Court, with his defamation claim against Crystal Palace and Persons Unknown.Marinakis lawyers, Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace have been approached for comment by The Independent.It is the latest action to be taken against Palace as a result of the banner, after the FA charged the club in November with failing to ensure its spectators and/or supporters (and anyone purporting to be supporters or followers) didnt behave in an improper, offensive, abusive, insulting and/or provocative way at this match. Palace were fined 50,000 four months later, with the FA adding: The fact that Crystal Palace had a policy to prevent banners being smuggled into the stadium demonstrates that it was aware of the risk.The game on 24 August last year took place amid heightened tensions between Palace and Forest after the Eagles were demoted from the Europa League due to a breach of multi-ownership regulations.Forest voiced their concerns over this to Uefa and were then the beneficiaries of Palaces removal, which lifted them into Europes second-tier competition.

Patchy Mix's post-Bellator career continued trending in the wrong direction Monday as he took another L, this time on the scale.For his bantamweight co-main event vs. Shoko Sato in at RIZIN 54, Mix weighed in at 140.7 pounds (63.85kg) a staggering 6.3 pounds over the limit of 134.4 (61kg). But since departing Bellator, which was absorbed by PFL, things have fallen apart. Mix had a chance to make his mark in the UFC but lost his first two octagon appearances to Mario Bautista (unanimous decision) in June 2025 and Jakub Wikacz (split decision) four months later, leading to his abrupt UFC release. Another week has begun, which brings the reveal of another watchlist for postseason awards. Monday, the Paul Hornung Award revealed its initial watchlist for the 2026 season, which included Auburn defensive back and return specialist Rayshawn Pleasant. The Hornung Award is awarded annually to the most versatile player in college football. The SEC has the most representatives on the Hornung Award Watchlist with 10, more than the Big 10 (5), ACC (6), and Big 12 (6). Pleasant joins South Carolina's Vicari Swain, Oklahoma's Isaiah Sategna, and Florida's Jaden Baugh as SEC representatives on the watchlist. Pleasant showcased his versatility at Tulane during the 2023 and 2024 seasons, making him an attractive piece in the transfer portal ahead of the 2025 season. He ultimately signed with Auburn and lived up to the hype as a defensive back and returner by logging 16 tackles and a career-high two interceptions in Auburn's win over Arkansas, one being a pick-six. He added two more touchdowns to his list as a returner, one being a 98-yard kickoff return in Auburn's season-opening win at Baylor.Pleasant will look to boost his numbers as a senior for Auburn and possibly end the season as Auburn's first Paul Hornung Award winner. Memphis basketball unveiled its full nonconference schedule Aug. 10, which includes seven games against power conference teams and at least six games against programs that are coming off March Madness appearances.The Tigers' home schedule also features a previously unannounced game against Jackson State (DEc. 2), a recently reported contest against Little Rock (Dec. 22), as well as a marquee matchup with Louisville (Nov. 15) the first visit the Cardinals have made to FedExForum since March 1, 2014.Complete tip-off times and television broadcast details will be announced at a later date. The regular season begins with Iowa State (Nov. 2) at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The Cyclones have won 25 or more games each of the past three seasons under coach T.J.
