Barcelona yet to agree fee with Manchester City over Rodri transfer
Barcelona are yet to agree a fee with Manchester City to sign Rodri as their attempts to bring in Spains World Cup-winning captain continues. The Spanish champions had an initial bid of 38.4m rejected by City last week and have been considering a second offer. But they are yet to meet Citys asking price, with the FA Cup winners thought to want around 60m to sell the Ballon dOr winner.Rodri has entered the last year of his contract at the Etihad Stadium and is keen to return to Spain after seven years in Manchester. Real Madrid were also interested in the former Atletico Madrid player before Barcelona emerged as the favourites to get him. City, who have broken their transfer record to sign one midfielder this summer, after paying Nottingham Forest 116m for Elliot Anderson, are considering buying again as they may have to replace Rodri. They are interested in Moroccos Ayyoub Bouaddi, while Enzo Fernandez, who played for Enzo Maresca at Chelsea, has an admirer in their new manager. World Cup champion and Golden Ball winner Rodri also underwent minor surgery on his back following the conclusion of the tournament which makes him a doubt for the start of the new season. City boss, Maresca, is hopeful that the midfielder will see out the rest of his contract and be available for the upcoming season but City will not want to let Rodri leave for free next summer and they are willing to negotiate with Barcelona for a fair price.

Raiders' Fernando Mendoza and Kirk Cousins QB competition could bring a plot twist
When the Las Vegas Raiders selected former Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza with the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, fans were understandably optimistic that they'd found a new franchise quarterback. That feeling still stands true and remained that way after the Raiders signed veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins. However, the Cousins signing did signal a real possibility (and expectation for many) that Mendoza's time as the clear-cut starter may be delayed just a bit.Cousins knows why he's in Vegas, and Mendoza knows he's expected to become the team's future and long-term answer at quarterback. The two have seemingly gotten along great, and it's led to no issues. But in an interesting turn of events, it appears there could be a real chance that Mendoza's need for a "bridge" quarterback in Cousins may not prove to be the case.Fernando Mendoza's 'real chance' to win Raiders' starting QB jobOn Tuesday, longtime NFL reporter Vincent Bonsignore of the California Post dropped a nugget that stood out quite a bit. Along with stating that there's a "real QB battle" at the Raiders' training camp, he added that he believes there's a "real chance" Mendoza wins the job. There's actually a real QB battle in @Raiders camp.I still believe Kirk gets the opener, but it's not etched in stone. Fernando has a real chance to win the job. https://t.co/yiwr3JgaDa Vincent Bonsignore (@VinnyBonsignore) August 12, 2026Even beyond the possibility of Mendoza starting in Week 1, it doesn't sound as though the view around Vegas is that Mendoza will need to sit and learn for a very long time. That's a great sign for the rookie quarterback, and potentially an even better one for the Raiders, who haven't been able to catch a break at the position in recent years. Now, whether Mendoza actually does get the Week 1 starting nod remains up in the air, but at the very least, his play in the preseason will be one of the biggest storylines to monitor. This article originally appeared on For The Win: Raiders' Fernando Mendoza and Kirk Cousins QB competition could bring a plot twist

Bundesliga clubs react after Federal Cartel Office classify "50+1 rule" as permissible
Bundesliga clubs react after Federal Cartel Office classify "50+1 rule" as permissibleThe debate over 50+1 continued on Wednesday as the Bundeskartellamt (Federal Cartel Office) finally ruled the rule is permissible under antitrust law. There is also a call for improvement regarding its execution at the clubs granted exceptions and special cases Bayer Leverkusen, VfL Wolfsburg, RB Leipzig and Hannover 96.The decision followed with contrasting reactions from Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga clubs as they stay divided on the issue. While clubs like Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04 welcomed the non-binding statement, some asked for more clarity on the matter."It is a significant step that the Federal Cartel Office, in its final assessment, raises no fundamental concerns regarding the (50+1) rule. Well continue to advocate for the protection and continued existence of the rule. But a rule only makes sense if it applies equally to everyone. I'm curious about the future and remain skeptical. said DFL chairman and Borussia Dortmund president Hans-Joachim Watzke.BVB also issued a public statement in which they noted 50+1 stands for club identity, co-determination and a vibrant fan culture. Our stance is clear: 50+1 is part of German soccer, and members and fans belong at the heart of the club. said spokesperson Carsten Cramer.Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusens managing director Fernando Carro also shared his opinion after the homework given to his club with the ruling on Wednesday morning. The club stated that theyre now carefully examining the decision as they see a promising starting point for a long-term solution for the entire German football. While Bayer AG were exempted from the rule in 1999 for supporting Bayer Leverkusen for over two decades, Volkswagen AG received similar advantage two years later for majority of voting rights at VfL Wolfsburg.Volkswagen AG pointed out that they reserved the right to take appropriate further steps in light of protecting the interest of its shareholders. Wolfsburgs statement recalls the clubs previous contribution to the process before adding their willingness for constructive talks with clubs and stakeholders. In addition to Leverkusen and Wolfsburg, TSG Hoffenheim were also exempted from the rule in 2015 before Dietmar Hopp returned his shares to the club in 2023. Meanwhile, Hannover and Martin Kind continue to ask questions as they share their surprise on why it took eight years for Bundeskartellamt to reach this decision.RB Leipzig, a club that remains very closed to new shareholders with only 22 voting members, assured theyre ready for constructive exchanges with the league after hearing the updates. Meanwhile, FC Schalke 04 and 1. FC Kln are among other clubs releasing statements in support of the decision by the Federal Cartel Office.

Red Sox Named Suitor for $341M Star, but They Shouldnt Be for Franklin Arias Reason
Red Sox Named Suitor for $341M Star, but They Shouldnt Be for Franklin Arias Reason originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Boston Red Sox's interest in a shortstop over the past year or so has been rather interesting for many reasons. Not only do the Red Sox already have a veteran at shortstop in Trevor Story, but they have one of the best prospects in Major League Baseball in Franklin Arias.Arias, who many figure will be one of the better players in baseball once he gets settled into the league, has absolutely torn up the minor leagues. There's even a scenario in which he could be called up this year if the Red Sox need him. However, the interest in shortstops has already been well reported, as Boston has shown interest in Elly De La Cruz and others over the past few months. A recent suggestion also had them in the mix for another superstar shortstop, Francisco Lindor.Lindor, who is still an elite player, would be a huge addition to any contending team this winter. The New York Mets find themselves in a bit of a weird spot with Francisco Lindor. On one hand, he's still a very good player (no matter what Mets fans might want to tell you), and trading him away will undoubtedly make the Mets worse in the short term.On the other hand, Lindor's contract is massive, he's likely going to steadily decline over the course of the next half-decade and his relationship with Juan Soto is a strange one at best. Further complicating the issue, Lindor has 10-and-5 rights, meaning he has full veto power even if the Mets wanted to trade him. If he wants to remain in New York, there's nothing they can do, Zachary Rotman wrote.Trading for a player like Lindor during the offseason would be an all-in move for the Red Sox.However, it could also hurt Arias' development.Considering the Red Sox have a real opportunity to win a World Series in the near future, it's not crazy to say they should go with the veteran option in Lindor. That's ultimately something the front office will have to figure out.More Red SoxLatest Red Sox news2026 Red Sox schedule2026 Red Sox rosterComplete history of Red Sox championships

The Bills' new stadium architect offered explanation for the obstructed-view seating
The Buffalo Bills opened their brand new $2.2 billion Highmark Stadium on Saturday. And instead of wowing the NFL world, the stadium has been under the microscope for its shortcomings given the price tag. And now, one of the lead architects behind the project has spoken out. In the days since the Bills' Blue & Red practice, photos of obstructed-view seating throughout the 60,108-seat venue have been all over social media. In the photos, portions of the field were blocked by overhangs, sharp angles in the structure and even stairways with plexiglass barriers that led into the aisles. The Bills released a statement on Monday about the stadium criticism. And at the time, the Kansas City-based architecture firm, Populous, declined comment to For The Win. On Wednesday, though, Jonathan Mallie the managing director of Populous Americas practice called into Buffalo's WGR 550 to explain why the stairways were designed that way at Highmark Stadium. What Populous said about the designMallie said that there had to be a trade-off in order to provide 360-degree stadium views from the concourse: "Starting with just the building type, stadiums in general or airports, these are some of the most complex buildings in the world that we have to deal with. When you think about that, all of design are trade-offs. And so one major thing that we wanted to do was alleviate as much congestion on the concourses as possible. Create open views from concourse. Old Highmark didn't have this. "So, old Highmark you're going behind a wall and you're going to get your food, to get your drink. So we wanted to keep those stairwells out of that concourse and put them on that leading edge. And this is not unique to Buffalo. So there are 21 professional stadiums between the NFL and Major League Baseball 14 of which in the NFL that have the outboard stairs. It's common practice. It's a way to create those views from the concourse, alleviate the congestion. And so when you go and get your drink, you can actually catch a view of the game." He continued when asked about the necessities of those 360-degree concourse views: "It is, and that was a key element in providing that protection for the fans. So when you have that opportunity to maybe duck in and get out of the elements for a minute. You go get your drink, but you can still have an eyeball on the game. And that's a complete departure from old Highmark. Just a noticeable difference."A source close to the Bills' project also told For The Win that "less than 1%" of PSL holders voiced concerns about sightlines. But it does sound like there was a thought process behind that stairway design. The Bills will just have to figure out a way to alleviate the obstruction those stairs created.
