Brandon Clarke's estate will receive all money the former Grizzlies forward was owed: 'Brandons contract was fully protected'
Brandon Clarke died in May from an accidental overdose. The former Memphis Grizzlies forward was in the middle of a four-year, $50 million deal that started in 2023. And on Thursday, a Front Office Sports report stated the Clarke estate would not be paid the $12.5 million remaining on his contract. But multiple NBA sources confirmed to Yahoo Sports that Clarkes contract was completely protected in case of death. The $12.5 million is expected to be paid in full through life insurance. It was very disappointing to see the misinformation that was reported, Priority Sports agent Mark Bartelstein told Yahoo Sports. Brandons contract was fully protected for a God-forbid occurrence. So Brandons family and his estate are fully protected in Brandons contract.NBA contracts by default are not guaranteed in case of death. But it can be via negotiation, as was the case between Clarkes representation and the Grizzlies. In Clarkes contract, it was agreed the team would reimburse for life insurance to protect against the possibility of death. This is a customary approach to player contracts across the NBA that provides the most beneficial protection for a player that can be negotiated in a contract, because it provides tax advantages to the player. The Grizzlies have been an incredible partner in supporting Brandon from the moment they drafted him, Bartelstein said. The support that the entire Grizzlies organization has shown to Brandons family during this devastating time has been beyond words. And we all could not be more appreciative.Clarkes salary will not count against Memphis salary cap for the 2026-27 season. The NBA hasn't always handled situations like this so cleanly. When Celtics captain Reggie Lewis died suddenly in 1993, Boston was forced to carry his contract on its salary cap for two additional seasons. Since then, collectively bargained mechanisms separate the financial protection of a player and his family from the basketball consequences for the team.Clarke, 29, died May 11. Last week, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner ruled his death an accident caused by the effects of heroin and cocaine, with multiple prescription medications also listed as significant contributing factors.Memphis will open its season Oct. 21 against the Utah Jazz. It'll be the Grizzlies' first regular-season home game since losing a player who spent all seven years of his NBA career with the franchise.

Arsenal & Liverpool set for tribunal over youth transfer
Arsenal & Liverpool set for tribunal over youth transferArsenals pursuit of Liverpool youngster Vincent Joseph is set for a tribunal, with the two clubs reportedly failing to agree a transfer compensation fee.Photo via Joseph on InstagramSimon Jones of the Daily Mail reports that Arsenal and Liverpool are heading for a tribunal, after failing to agree compensation for 16-year-old striker Vincent Joseph.Joseph has decided to leave Liverpool and turned down a scholarship contract with the club, but his age means his club are still owed a fee.Reports earlier this week suggested Arsenal were in talks with Liverpool over a settlement, but Jones update implies that those negotiations have failed.Photo via Joseph on InstagramJordan Campbell and James McNicholas reported for The Athletic this week thatArsenalhave an agreement in place withJoseph himself, so the only remaining factor is how much theyll have to pay Liverpool.Joseph made his breakthrough into u18 Premier League football last season, scoring three goals in his two appearances for Liverpool. The young striker has also scored eight goals in his nine games for the England u16s, with all of those appearances coming in the course of the 2025/26 campaign.Photo via LiverpoolFC.comArsenal have been on the lookout for youth strikers in recent transfer windows, and they missed out on Will Wright to Liverpool just last year. But after agreeing terms with Crystal PalacesMylo Bernard and Liverpools Joseph, they may finally have found their academy additions.Arsenal have also signed Elijah Upson from Tottenham Hotspur this summer, and theyre set to complete the signing of Axel Donczew from Cardiff City.Photo via Instagram

Liverpool Are In Talks To Land This Paris Saint-Germain Youngster: One For The Future?
Liverpool Are In Talks To Land This Paris Saint-Germain Youngster: One For The Future? In a recent segment on Youtube, respected journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that Liverpool are in talks to land Paris Saint-Germain youngster Ibrahim Mbaye. Romano said,Ibrahim Mbaye. Liverpool spoke with the agent of the player, Jorge Mendes, for several days. But my information is that [Liverpool] believe that signing Barcola and Mbaye means spending almost 200m (171m). So that would be a crazy package to spend on two players. My understanding is that Liverpools plan is to sign two wingers by the end of the window, especially if Cody Gakpo goes to Tottenham. If Gakpo goes to Tottenham, and Liverpool sign Barcola, there is still space for one more winger. But at the moment, the price made by PSG for Mbaye is considered too expensive.Mbayes Rapid Rise In Ligue 1Mbaye managed to catch the eye for PSG in the previous campaign when he put in a few productive performances for them in Ligue 1. The 18-year-old banged in three goals in 24 league appearances for the French club last season. The talented teenager is currently one of the most gifted wide players in Ligue 1. Thus, it is no surprise that Liverpool are showing interest in signing him this off-season.LONDON, ENGLAND NOVEMBER 15: Ibrahim Mbaye of Senegal controls the ball during the International Friendly between Brazil and Senegal at Emirates Stadium on November 15, 2025 in London, England. (Photo by Ryan Pierse/Getty Images)Mbaye is under contract at PSG until the summer of 2028, which could make it tough for the Reds to sign him on a cut-price deal this month.Liverpool Are In Talks To Land Mbaye: Is He A Prospect For The Future?Mbaye is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make some driving runs with it out on the flanks. He has the pace to cause a few problems for his marker and can shoot the ball with power from long range. The Senegalese talent is primarily a right-sided wide player but can also serve as a left-winger or play in the number ten position if asked to do so. However, it remains to be seen whether he can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League.Mbaye would enhance the quality of Liverpool boss Andoni Iraolas attack in the long run. He has what it takes to fight for a regular first-team spot at the Merseyside club in the coming seasons. At 18, Mbaye has the potential to be a future star in English football. He is undoubtedly a prospect to watch out for in the long run, so the Reds should focus on stepping up their efforts to land him soon.

Lane Kiffin talks tight end position, future for LSU TE Trey'Dez Green
LSU football head coach Lane Kiffin talked about the evolution of the tight end position over his time in the profession. He noted that tight ends play a bigger role in the passing game, in addition to their blocking responsibilities."They were much more in-line and physical blockers," Kiffin said. "We actually talked about it the other day that maybe a traditional guy that was, even maybe a college All-American and high draft pick nowadays, would not be valued near as much because so much is about the passing game and off the ball and movement."Kiffin has one of the country's most versatile tight ends at his disposal with Trey'Dez Green. The junior, who committed to improving his contributions blocking over the offseason, not only catches short passes but also lines up in the slot and kicks out wide, serving as a downfield threat. As a sophomore, Green caught seven touchdowns and finished with 433 receiving yards. After football ended, Green lent his athleticism to the men's basketball team. Kiffin hinted at a big season ahead for Green on the gridiron."The game's changed a little bit that way, especially in college, and he really fits that mold, you know, kind of converted receiver type of guy," Kiffin said. "He's a really great weapon to have and be able to use, and catching range and radius is off the charts, so we're really glad he's here, and we look forward to trying to use him in different ways."Green is an elite talent. He signed with LSU as a five-star recruit in 2024, and his full potential was on display in 2025. Few defenders in college football have the tools to defend LSU's tight end. This article originally appeared on LSU Wire: Lane Kiffin talks tight end position, future for LSU TE Trey'Dez Green
