ATLANTA (AP) The Atlanta Braves recalled left-handed reliever Ray Kerr and designated Danny Young for assignment before their game Sunday against the Arizona Diamondbacks.The 31-year-old Kerr last pitched in the big leagues for the Braves in 2024. He underwent Tommy John surgery that season and didn't pitch at all in 2025.After completing his recovery, Kerr returned to the mound in mid-July and has pitched in nine games with four minor league affiliates, including Triple-A Gwinnett. He posted a 3.09 ERA with 16 strikeouts over 11 2/3 innings.Young, a 32-year-old lefty, went 0-1 with an 8.03 ERA in 16 appearances for the Braves. New Jersey's representative in the Little League World Series continues a historic run when Bayonne Central LL faces off against Bridgewater Joe Lazaro LL of Massachusetts on Aug. 19, the opening day of the 12-day tournament.The 12-year-olds from Hudson County, who won the Metro Region title on Aug. 14 to earn a spot in Little League baseball's biggest event, will take the field at 7 p.m. at Lamade Stadium in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, against the team from Bridgewater, Massachusetts, who won the New England Region title. The winner of the Bayonne-Bridgewater game will go on to play the winner of the Mid-Atlantic Region title, East Side LL from West Chester, Pennsylvania. The bracket can be viewed here.The game will be broadcast on ESPN, which will air all Little League World Series games, including the championship game on Aug. 30.Bayonne (13-0) is the 21st New Jersey charter to reach the Little League World Series and the first since Toms River East advanced in 2021. The club is also just the second team from Hudson County to accomplish the feat, joining West New York American, which reached Williamsport in 1966. Only four New Jersey teams Hammonton (1949), Wayne American (1970), Lakewood (1975) and Toms River East American (1998) have won Little League World Series titles. We know this will be a very competitive roster to make. There may only be a few spots up for grabs on the margins. Sometimes McVays most telling move is who sits out. There were a couple of interesting inactives on Saturday against the Kansas City Chiefs that should inform 53-man roster projections. Lets summarize everything we learned from the preseason opener in Kansas City.An injury to keep an eye onKeagen Trost, RTTrost started at right tackle before leaving in the first quarter with a hamstring injury. It seems the Rams are preparing Trost to backup Warren McClendon, which means veteran David Quessenberry is likely the backup to Alaric Jackson amid the starters potential suspension. Should Trost miss extended time, he is a candidate to start the regular season on injured reserve. This would open up an opportunity for players like AJ Arcuri to stick with the team. Did not play probably safeShaun Dolac, MLBNo surprises here. Dolac was playing more on defense towards the end of last season before suffering an injury and missing the playoffs. Hes also one of LAs more important special teams contributors.Its noteworthy that Dolac has gone from one of the highest volume participants of the preseason a year ago to safe in 2026.Grant Stuard, MLBIt didnt really make sense that LA would cut their free agent investment in special teams. Stuard did not play Saturday and that confirms hes safe.Josh Wallace, CBIt will be interesting to see how often the Rams deploy Trent McDuffie in the slot. Consequently, how different will Quentin Lakes role be in 2026? LA is set at the first two slot corner spots. Wallace is third on the depth chart but seems safe to make the team. Tyler Davis, DTDavis continues to be one of the most underrated names on the Rams roster. He was on the sidelines dressed in street clothes along with Kobie Turner and Braden Fiske. There will not be a surprise cut of Davis this year.Did not play interesting data pointAll three of these players sat out in Kansas City; however, this isnt a clear sign that they are locks to make the roster. All have years of preseason experience with the Rams. What else is there to learn from additional time on the field? The Rams know who these players are at this point.Ronnie Rivers, RBProbably ahead of Jarquez Hunter on the depth chart. Rivers also contributes on special teams with higher frequency than Hunter, although that mix could change this season potentially. Davis Allen, TEListed as a co-starter on the teams unofficial depth chart. Max Klare isnt getting cut as a second-round pick. Can the Rams really keep five tight ends? If they do, it truly signals that LA will again be deploying heavier personnel and fewer receivers may stick on the 53-man roster as a result. AJ Arcuri, OTThe Rams should not have much confidence in Quessenberry if he must step in because of a Jackson suspension. It would be wise to keep as many options available as possible. Trost starting at right tackle could signal that the team is not overly concerned about Jackson getting suspended, and generally front offices have an understanding of expectations that is not publicly available. Do the Rams feel they have nothing new to learn about Arcuri or is he too important to subject to injury risk?Played surprisingly late into the gameDesjuan Johnson, EDGEJohnson is currently LAs fourth EDGE. Its a position where numbers are needed because they are often rotated. Id lean towards Johnson being safe, although it was surprising to see him play almost the entire game Saturday.Cam Lampkin, CBWith Wallace sitting out the contest, Lampkin is probably unlikely to make this team. We saw Lampkin play in the slot and last preseason he mainly aligned outside. Considering the positive training camp reports that Lampkin was causing turnovers left and right, he did not perform up to that standard versus the Chiefs.Max Klare, TEThere are two ways to read Klare participating the entire game. He is either on the same developmental plan as Ty Simpson and the Rams dont expect him to contribute much in 2026, barring injury. Or the team knows they need as many tight ends as possible and felt a high volume of both snaps and targets could accelerate his growth trajectory. I lean more towards the first idea at this point.

Motorsport Ireland driver William Creighton says he will be discharged from hospital on Sunday after being involved in a crash at Barum Czech Rally Zlin.Creighton and co-driver Liam Regan went off the road on the fourth stage of the European Rally Championship round in the Czech Republic on Saturday.Creighton said Regan suffered "some fractures" and will remain in hospital, but is "stable".The stage was stopped by organisers after the crash so medical and rescue teams could attend to the crew from Northern Ireland.Regan was airlifted to the T Bata Regional Hospital in Zlin after being extricated from the crew's Citroen C3 Rally2, and was described by organisers on Saturday as conscious and in a stable condition."Unfortunately, on SS4 of Barum Czech Rally Zin we went off the road on a fast right-hand corner and came to a sudden stop," Creighton said in a statement. "I am OK and will be discharged from hospital today (Sunday). Unfortunately, Liam has suffered some fractures and will need to remain in hospital, but he is stable."I want to really thank all the first responders, rescue crews and medical teams, especially the doctors and nurses at the Tomas Bata Regional Hospital for their amazing care. Also, thank you to the competitors who stopped to help at the accident."My thoughts are with Liam and his full recovery."Regan has been Creighton's co-driver for the majority of his career and the pair won the British Rally Championship title last year and the Junior World Rally Championship in 2023.The rally will continue on stage five, and is currently being led by local driver Filip Mares and co-driver Radovan Bucha.

Devdutt Padikkal's sensational innings came to an end in the opening Test against Sri Lanka as the India batter was dismissed for a magnificent 167 off 230 balls in Galle. Padikkal, who had struck his maiden Test century on Day 1, continued his remarkable run on the rain-affected second day and went on to register his first Test score beyond 150.The left-hander smashed 15 fours and a six during his memorable knock, anchoring India's innings and keeping the visitors in a commanding position despite repeated interruptions caused by rain.Padikkal joins Dravid and Pujara in elite listWith his 150-plus score, Padikkal became only the third Indian batter to score 150 or more against Sri Lanka from No. 3. He joined the likes of Rahul Dravid, who scored 177 in Ahmedabad in 2009, and Cheteshwar Pujara, who made 153 in Galle in 2017.Padikkal's innings was particularly impressive considering the lengthy interruptions. Perhaps we should know this by now. Every Philadelphia Eagles training camp story won't follow a straight line. Some players burst onto the scene with a strong spring and dominate headlines for weeks. Others appear destined for breakout seasons before the daily grind of camp levels the playing field. That doesn't always mean those players are struggling. It simply may mean expectations have caught up to reality.That may be where Riq Woolen finds himself. The Eagles acquired the talented cornerback because of his rare blend of size, speed, and playmaking ability. There's also the obvious upside. Throughout organized team activities and portions of training camp, reports consistently painted Woolen as one of the defense's most impressive performers. He frequently found himself attached to positive practice notes and looked every bit like the player Philadelphia hoped it was getting. Recently, however, some of the offense has begun fighting back in practice.Eagles WRs are providing Riq Woolen with tougher testsAccording to ESPN's Tim McManus, Woolen has "come back to earth some this summer following a highly productive spring." That observation came after a practice in which Jalen Hurts connected with Dontayvion Wicks for a touchdown over Woolen during red-zone work.Moments like that shouldn't trigger concern. In fact, they're often part of the process. Training camp is designed to create competitive environments. Cornerbacks win some reps. Receivers win others. The best players generally experience both. Woolen's recent struggles serve as a reminder that he is facing one of the deeper collections of pass catchers he'll see all season. Philadelphia's receiver competition has been intense. Wicks continues to generate buzz, but he isn't alone. Darius Cooper has become one of camp's biggest surprises. Elijah Moore has taken advantage of increased opportunities.Even with DeVonta Smith and Makai Lemon working through injuries, the Eagles have no shortage of players capable of making defensive backs look bad on any given snap. That's part of what makes evaluating Woolen difficult. The larger body of work remains encouraging. He has spent most of the offseason building momentum and establishing himself as a serious contributor in Vic Fangio's defense. A handful of difficult reps doesn't erase months of positive developments. If anything, these moments may prove beneficial. The regular season won't offer many easy assignments. Woolen will be asked to cover some of the league's most talented receivers. Experiencing adversity in August is often preferable to encountering it for the first time in September.The Eagles still have plenty of reasons to feel optimistic about Woolen's trajectory. What's changed is the conversation. Instead of discussing whether he can dominate every practice, the focus is shifting toward something more realistic. The questions are about whether he can consistently respond when the offense lands a punch.
