Steelers Legend Ben Roethlisberger: Will Howard Stands Out More Than Drew Allar
Yes, the Pittsburgh Steelers placed the unrestricted free-agent tender on veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who led the team to an AFC North title at 10-7 last season but he still hasn't signed a contract, and we don't definitively know who the team's 2026 starting quarterback is. That leads us to second-year quarterback Will Howard and rookie Drew Allar. Who does Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger the franchise leader with 64,088 passing yards and 418 passing touchdowns prefer? "I'm not sure yet if I love it or hate it. I don't watch a lot of Penn State games. When I did watch, he never jumped off the page to me," Roethlisberger said about Allar, whom Pittsburgh selected with the No. 76 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, on his podcast, "Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger." "Is he big? Can he move? Can he throw? Yes. But there was never a time when I was like, 'Whoa.' The jury's still out for me right now. Again, there was nothing that just jumped off the page for me. Whether that's good or bad, I don't know. We'll see about this one." As for the other former Big Ten signal-caller? "Will Howard jumped off the tape to me way more than Drew [Allar] did," Roethlisberger said. The Steelers selected Howard in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Howard spent the first four seasons of his collegiate career with the Kansas State Wildcats (2020-23) before transferring to play for the Ohio State Buckeyes in 2024, with whom he won the National Championship. In said championship season (2024), Howard totaled 4,010 passing yards, 35 passing touchdowns, 10 interceptions and a 175.3 passer rating, while completing 73.0% of his passes. Howard led the Big Ten in passing yards, passing touchdowns and completion percentage, while rushing for 226 yards and seven touchdowns. He didn't appear in a game during his 2025 rookie season. As for Allar, the former five-star recruit's 2025 campaign at Penn State was cut short after six games due to a broken ankle. Over his two healthy seasons as the Nittany Lions' starting quarterback (2023-24), the 6-foot-5 Allar averaged 2,979 passing yards, 24.5 passing touchdowns, five interceptions and a 145.2 passer rating per year, while completing 63.2% of his passes. In 2024, Allar helped Penn State reach the College Football Playoff semifinals and led the Big Ten with 25 passing touchdowns in 2023. In all, Pittsburgh's quarterback room currently includes Allar, Howard and Mason Rudolph, who has made a combined 14 starts over his two stints with the Steelers (2018-23 and 2025-present).

Gay gymnast Ben Letvins latest win puts the spotlight back on The Powerpuff Girls
Over the weekend, gymnast Ben Letvin led his University of Minnesota team to another Eastern conference title in the run-up to GymACT league nationals. The collegiate athlete put up impressive scores on the floor and rings, but his high marks on the vault helped edge out the competition, securing him an all-around title to go with the Gophers fifth conference victory. The weekend didnt just mark a win for Letvins club teammates and personal trophy collection. The openly gay gymnasts success is helping move the needle forward in a sport known for its rigid idea of what it means to be a top-tier male athlete. Letvin joined Minnesota gymnastics, which is part of the league open to schools without NCAA programs, in 2023. Initially, he told Outsports in a 2025 interview that he was hesitant to open up to his teammates about his sexuality given the hyper-masculine environment fostered by the sport. However, two other gay gymnasts, Jude Norris and Charlie Larson, gave him the confidence to stop worrying about fitting in and be himself.View this post on InstagramA post shared by Ben Letvin (@benletvin_gym)Not long after, the three tightly bonded former teammates started collaborating on videos to promote the club on Instagram and, early on, it was clear they had found their niche.Norris, who joined the Gopher staff after being burned out by competition, was initially behind the camera, but things really took off when he joined his teammates onscreen. Thus, The Powerpuff Girls, as the group calls themselves, were born. Since 2024, the threesome, who took their name from the iconic animated supergirl trio, has specialized in videos demonstrating high-level stunts with lots of sass. Their collaboration has also taken on other forms, like a fashion-forward photo shoot, now that Larson has transferred to the University of Michigan. Its not just gymnastics fans tuning into their content, as everyone from general sports enthusiasts to followers of campy queer influencers finding something to enjoy in their out-and-proud acrobatics. Letvins latest victory on the mat puts the spotlight back on the group and their efforts to bring much-needed visibility to queer athletes competing in elite mens sports.Whether he takes the podium at nationals next month or not, that already makes him an all-star in our book. Though, he will be hoping for a repeat of last year, when he took home the top prize for vault with a noteworthy 14.2. Zaragozas Andrada Handed 12-Match Ban For Punch In Spanish Second Division
Zaragoza's Argentine goalkeeper Esteban Andrada was given a 12-match suspension for punching an opponent in a second-division soccer game in Spain this weekend. Andrada was also suspended for one more match for a red card he was shown before the punch. The game was in its final minutes when Andrada shoved Huesca defender Jorge Pulido to the ground when he approached the Argentine goalkeeper. After the referee showed Andrada a second yellow card for the shove, the goalkeeper ran after Pulido and hit him in the face with a powerful right-hand punch. Pulido dropped to the ground and a brawl between players and staff members from both teams ensued. Andrada later apologized for his actions. Huesca goalkeeper Dani Jimenez was also sent off for punching Andrada during the melee. Jimnez was suspended four matches for the punch. The suspensions can be appealed. Rayo player suspended Rayo Vallecano player Isi Palazon was suspended a total of seven matches for his harsh complaints about the referee in his team's 3-3 draw against Real Sociedad on Sunday. He had already been substituted and was sent off for complaining from the bench in the final minutes. Rayo had a goal disallowed after video review instead awarded a penalty kick for Sociedad for an incident earlier in the buildup. Reporting by The Associated Press.

Steve Kerr reportedly had productive meeting with Warriors brass about future, decision not expected until next week
Steve Kerrs future with the Golden State Warriors is still up in the air, and a resolution isnt expected until next week at the earliest.Kerr met with owner Joe Lacob and general manager Mike Dunleavy for two hours on Monday, according to ESPN, but the two sides did not determine whether Kerr would remain the franchises head coach next season. The meeting was described as productive, according to the report. The three men plan to meet again next week to continue discussions. Kerr is set to take a golfing trip to close out the week, and he is reportedly torn about his decision. Its April, a source told ESPN. We dont need to rush.Kerr has spent the past 12 seasons with the Warriors, and oversaw their dynasty-level run throughout the NBA. The franchise won four titles under his watch and reached the NBA Finals six times in eight years, including in each of his first five seasons at the helm. The team won 73 games during the 2015-16 season, too, which broke the all-time wins record set by the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls. Kerr was also a member of that Bulls team. But the Warriors have struggled in recent years. They went just 37-45 this season and missed the playoffs for the second time in three years. Kerr had an emotional moment with stars Stephen Curry and Draymond Green on the court at the end of their final game."I don't know what's gonna happen next, but I love you guys." https://t.co/GyFAlQRjIxpic.twitter.com/KlInPGTZs1 NBA (@NBA) April 18, 2026I dont know whats going to happen next, but I love you guys to death, Kerr was heard telling the duo. Thank you. Appreciate you.Kerr has been pretty open about knowing that his time with the Warriors may come to an end since that loss. Green even predicted that Kerr wouldnt be around next season, too. The Warriors reportedly want Kerr to sign a multi-year extension with them this offseason, rather than return for a farewell tour-type season.I dont know whats going to happen, Kerr said after their final game. I still love coaching, but I get it. These jobs all have an expiration date. Theres a run that happens, and sometimes its time for new blood and new ideas and all that.If thats the case, then I will be nothing but grateful for the most amazing opportunity any person could have to coach in front of our fans in the Bay, to coach Steph Curry, to coach Dray, the whole group. It may still go on, it may not. I don't know at this point."

FIFA Considers Requiring Clubs To Field One Homegrown Young Player In Games
FIFA has opened talks about requiring all professional teams to field at least one homegrown young player throughout games. The FIFA Council agreed late Tuesday to try to have a formal plan within a year after global consultation with stakeholders. The target is to increase playing opportunities for young players nurtured by clubs who typically rely on bought and imported talent. FIFA said it aims for "a regulatory obligation that senior club teams are obliged to always have at least one homegrown player from the Under-20 or Under-21 category on the field of play." Such a rule would be stricter than existing rules in national and international club competitions, including the Champions League, that demand a quota of homegrown and club-trained players on every squad list. Those types of rules impose no obligation on selection in starting lineups. Champions League rules require that each squad should have at least eight places reserved for "locally trained players" among the maximum of 25 players overall. A locally trained player is defined by Champions League organizer UEFA as one nurtured by the club itself or at another club in the same country for at least three full seasons between the ages of 15 and 21. Reporting by The Associated Press.
