Augsburg reject two Hull City bids for rising German talent Mert Kmr
Augsburg reject two Hull City bids for rising German talent Mert KmrHull City have had two concrete offers rejected for FC Augsburg attacker Mert Kmr. Sky Germany reporter Kerry Hau reports that the newly promoted Premier League club initially offered 8m before increasing its proposal to 9m.Neither bid satisfied Augsburg, who are seeking a guaranteed fee of between 13m and 14m. The Fuggerstdter also want achievable bonuses and a substantial sell-on percentage included in any agreement. Talks between the clubs nevertheless remain ongoing.Get German Football News first reported Hulls interest in Kmr last week before a subsequent update revealed that the 21-year-old was open to testing himself in England. No agreement has yet been reached between the player and the Tigers, however, with Kmr still negotiating the terms of a potential contract.Augsburg retain considerable leverage. Kmr signed a new deal through 2029 last summer, and the contract does not contain a release clause. The Bundesliga club are therefore under no pressure to accept a proposal below their valuation. The stance also mirrors Augsburgs handling of January interest from Beikta. The Turkish club submitted an initial 10m bid before raising its offer to 12m, yet Kmr remained in Bavaria.Augsburg have also held firm in the matter of another Premier League clubs pursuit of their player. Crystal Palaces attempts to acquire Chrislain Matsima were ultimately rebuffed. The Dachau native made 28 Bundesliga appearances last season, starting 18 matches and contributing two goals and five assists. His flexibility enables him to operate as a No. 10, on the right, behind a striker, or as a false nine.Hull must now decide whether to move closer to Augsburgs demands while continuing negotiations with the player.GGFN|Peter Weis

Barcelona’s Camp Nou set to host most World Cup matches in 2030 but Bernabeu lands the final – report
Barcelonas Camp Nou set to host most World Cup matches in 2030 but Bernabeu lands the final reportThe 2026 FIFA World Cup ended in the best possible fashion for Spain, as they not only won the coveted trophy but also advertised themselves as one of three hosts of the upcoming 2030 FIFA World Cup.The 2030 edition, after all, will be hosted across three countries, including Spain, Morocco and Portugal, and much like the United States in 2026, one would expect Spain to host the most number of matches. But with the nation boasting two of footballs biggest cathedrals in the Spotify Camp Nou and the Santiago Bernabeu, a question always stood as to which stadium would host the World Cup final in 2030.Bernabeu tipped to host the finalSantiago Bernabeu will trump Camp Nou in the race to host the 2030 World Cup final. (Photo by Angel Martinez/Getty Images)According to journalist Anton Meana (h/t Defensa Central), the Santiago Bernabeu is set to host the 2030 World Cup final, at least according to the current thinking of the Spanish Federation. The Bernabeu is viewed as something of a jewel in the crown, with FIFA said to greatly admire its spectacular design and retractable roof. Much like MetLife Stadium was chosen for the 2026 final due to its New York location, Madrids standing carries significant weight, he adds. There are, however, a few details still to be ironed out. Meana notes there are doubts over whether a fan zone can be set up outside the stadium due to potential noise complaints from local residents, though the Federation still regards the venue as the heart of the tournament.Camp Nou to host most matchesCamp Nou will still take centre stage at the 2030 World Cup. (Photo by David Ramos/Getty Images)While the Bernabeu may land the showpiece, it is the Spotify Camp Nou that is expected to stage the most number of matches. This mirrors the 2026 tournament, where the Dallas stadium hosted the most games rather than the venue of the final. Barcelonas home boasts the largest capacity in all of Spain, making it a natural choice to host a heavy share of fixtures. That is especially relevant given Gianni Infantinos desire to expand the World Cup from 48 to 64 teams, which would result in a greater number of matches overall. For Barcelona, having their newly redeveloped home take centre stage would be the ultimate showcase for the Espai Barca project. For now, though, the re-development project continues, with the club facing many delays.

Official: Jordan Henderson Signs for Chelsea
In the Premier League era at least, there is no Liverpool captain who has won more than Jordan Henderson, and the Sunderland-born midfielder will forever be a club legend for leading the team to the Premier League title in 2019-20 along with winning the Champions League, FA Cup, Club World Cup, and two League Cups.Things havent been quite as positive for Henderson since 2023, though, when he faced the prospect of moving from nailed-on starter to squad option for the Reds and instead chose to move to Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia, then Ajax, and then Brentford. Now, Henderson has officially signed for Chelsea, linking up with another ex-Red in manager Xabi Alonso.Alonso has been focused on bringing more leadership and more of a veteran presence to the Blues this summer, which is understandable when Enzo Fernandezmost recently seen completely losing his head for Argentina at the World Cupis their assistant captain behind Reece James, and Henderson will certainly bring leadership. He is the second signing in that mold this summer for Alonso and Chelsea following the signing of striker Danny Welbeck from Brighton, and there is a widespread belief that while Henderson is likely to have a relatively minor role as a player, he is likely joining with the transition of transitioning into a coaching role with the Blues.Anyhow. Have some more unveiling shots of Jordan Henderson in Blue, I guess. Because, yeah, its a bit weird.

Will Stein is open to adding newly eligible 5th-year players
Kentucky linebacker Alex Afari Jr. (3), defensive back Quay'Sheed Scott (12) and defensive back Cam Dooley (18) celebrate a second-half stop during UK's 10-3 win against Auburn on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025. (Brian Simms/Lexington Herald-Leader/Tribune News Service via Getty Images)Kentucky Football could benefit from a recent court ruling that may grant an additional year of eligibility to some athletes from the high school class of 2022.After the NCAA adopted the 5-for-5 rule, allowing student-athletes five years to compete over a five-year period, many players from the class of 2022 have sought another season of eligibility to continue playing and capitalize on NIL opportunities.Recently, Judge Charlotte Sweeney of the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado granted a preliminary injunction that could allow members of the high school class of 2022 to receive an additional year of eligibility. The ruling has created uncertainty across college athletics as programs evaluate how it could impact their rosters. Kentucky Basketball is still looking to fill its final roster spot, while the football program continues exploring ways to improve ahead of the 2026 season.Speaking during Kentucky Football Media Day on Monday, head coach Will Stein said he would be open to adding eligible players if the opportunity presents itself. For sure. If we can make it work and we can stay within our roster limits and all that stuff, I will do whatever I can to make sure that we are playing our best football on Saturday. There are some steps still that were sorting out and figuring out, and its, like, daily new information. One player who could potentially return is former Kentucky linebacker Alex Afari Jr.According to Pete Nakos of On3, Afari is exploring the possibility of returning to college football for a fifth season.Afari participated in the Green Bay Packers rookie minicamp as a tryout player back in May, but he was not signed to a contract.Under Judge Sweeneys ruling, players who did not enter the transfer portal would not be eligible to transfer elsewhere unless the ruling is further challenged. However, they could return to the school they most recently attended, meaning Afari could potentially rejoin the Wildcats.Although Stein said he has not yet spoken with Afari, he acknowledged he would explore the possibility if it helps improve the Wildcats roster.I have not (spoken to Afari), but theres gonna be a group of guys that were here last year that, if this actually happens, if I can enhance the roster and make us better, Im gonna do it. I am, Stein stated. Its not as easy as, like, yep. Do it. Theres a process, because what I dont want to do is look up and youre playing an ineligible player and theres stuff like that that can happen. So, I think were still figuring everything out. And the good thing about our people in this administration and the people above me. Theyre in the same boat. If its going to make us better to win football games and theyre good people, Ill do it.If he is ultimately granted another year of eligibility and returns to Lexington, Afari would provide an immediate boost to Kentuckys defense ahead of the 2026 season. Will Stein is asked about the new 5-in-5 ruling. He says no matter what, he is always looking to improve the roster. pic.twitter.com/glmtQ73f9z Dylan Ballard (@DylanBallard_UK) August 3, 2026

A memorable Max Muncy home run at Dodger Stadium
Baseball: Los Angeles Dodgers Max Muncy (13) victorious with talc powder after hitting game winning walk off home run after game vs Toronto Blue Jays at Dodger Stadium. Los Angeles, CA 8/21/2019 CREDIT: Kohjiro Kinno (Photo by Kohjiro Kinno /Sports Illustrated/Getty Images) (Set Number: X162837 TK1 ) | Sports Illustrated/Getty ImagesLOS ANGELES Max Muncy homered once during the Dodgers homestand last week, and his home run last Tuesday against the Seattle Mariners tied Eric Karros for most regular season home runs in Dodger Stadium history.Muncy and Karros each hit 130 regular season homers at Chavez Ravine, but if you factor in postseason home runs too, Muncy has the edge, 137-132.So I asked Muncy over the weekend of all his home runs at Dodger Stadium excluding his 18th-inning home run in Game 3 of the 2018 World Series to end the longest postseason game of all-time was his favorite.Muncy thought about this for a moment. First he remembered his walk-off home run on April 10 against the Texas Rangers, when he joined Don Demeter in 1959 as the only Dodger to cap off a three-homer game with a walk-off shot. One its a walk-off, two its the third home run of the night, Muncy reasoned. But after a few more moments cycling through his memories of nine seasons hitting home runs in Los Angeles, Muncy suddenly remembered another important dinger. On August 21, 2019, Muncy hit a walk-off home run to beat the Toronto Blue Jays 2-1 in the 10th inning at Dodger Stadium. Max Muncy saves the Dodgers tonight, said Joe Davis on his home run call.WE GOT MAX WITH US, HE THE WAVE. pic.twitter.com/BHMNK8BlFy Los Angeles Dodgers (@Dodgers) August 22, 2019This home run was hit off Toronto southpaw Tim Mayza. Of the 137 home runs Muncy has hit at Dodger Stadium, 102 have been against right-handers and 35 against left-handers.Winning the game was nice, but off-field events were what made it special for Muncy, who was four days shy of his 29th birthday at the time. That one might actually be my favorite, because of the circumstances outside the field surrounding it. It was on or around my birthday, Muncy explained. My wife flew home to pick up the puppy we just bought. I hadnt met the puppy yet. She came to the stadium, and that was going to be the first night that I met him. That puppy is Jax, a french bulldog who was 14 weeks old at the time.View this post on InstagramThe Muncys still have Jax, now along with their three kids. But thinking back to that Wednesday night seven years ago and the ensuing few days made for a special memory. We went into extra innings, Muncy said of his 2019 home run, and the circumstances surrounding it might be the most memorable.
