"So then I did it, ain't been on there since. "Twitter was step oneand then, I was gonna try to get off everything eventually. Instagram is the hardest. They done made some type of algorithm that made it super addicting, but I'm trying to at least take a few months break from all social media. So step one was Twitter."He also spoke about getting more sleep, and embracing his faith after getting baptized.Making the Pro Bowl is a high bar, but the opportunity could be there for Umanmielen. The Croatian is no gimme. His only loss came in a bloody battle with Daniel Dubois in 2024, and he's rebuilt nicely since with wins over Joe Joyce, David Adeleye and Dave Allen. Rolando "Rolly" Romero vs. Teofimo Lopez Jr., 12 rounds for WBA welterweight title, Aug. 22Say what you like about how we got here and plenty of people have but this is a genuinely fascinating collision of styles and personalities.Rolly Romero (17-2, 13 KOs) hasn't been seen since he shocked Ryan Garcia in Times Square last May, a career-best win that turned him into the WBA's full welterweight champion once Jaron "Boots" Ennis moved on.Names like Devin Haney, Manny Pacquiao and Conor Benn were all floated for his first defense, but none of them stuck, and he's instead landed on Teofimo Lopez (22-2, 13 KOs), whos fresh off a one-sided beating at the hands of Shakur Stevenson in January.Maybe Lopez shouldn't be walking straight into a title shot in a third division off the back of that kind of loss. But Romero doesnt seem to care."I don't box for money," he insisted this month, which is either admirable or completely delusional depending on your mood.Whatever you make of the matchmaking, Romeros chaos and Lopezs chip on his shoulder should make for a box-office scrap.

Boston Red Sox catcher Adley RutschmanThe Boston Red Sox are reportedly acquiring Adley Rutschman from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for Anthony Eyanson, Enddy Azocar, Kyson Witherspoon, Harold Rivas and Carlos Narvaez.While his numbers are solid, he may be even better in reality. The Red Sox are giving up their Nos. 2, 4, 5 and 17 prospects alongside their starting catcher to get him, so they must really believe he can help them make a run. He is a three-time All-Star who is having a great bounce-back season.This year, Rutschman has a .251/.331/.433 slash line and eight homers. He is not playing as well as he did in 2023, but outside of the home run numbers, he is pretty much on par with his 2024 season. He is currently on the injured list and has been on the injured list three times this year, so his health is a concern. However, his underlying metrics indicate he should have better stats.His expected batting average is .274, 23 points higher than his actual batting average. This means he has been a victim of some bad luck, whether that's just because of elite defense or the ballpark he plays in. He ranks in the 96th percentile for launch angle sweet spot percentage, 91st percentile for whiff rate, 87th percentile for strikeout rate and 78th percentile for chase rate. All of that indicates that he is actually having a better year at the plate than his slash line would indicate.Defensively, he is in the 100th percentile for caught stealing above average and the 93rd percentile for framing. He has a plus-three blocks above average.Catcher was a clear need for the Red Sox, and Craig Breslow came through with a monster trade. The Tampa Bay Rays also landed a catcher in Liam Hicks, but the New York Yankees are still searching. The Red Sox are positioned to make a run at the AL East title after the addition of Rutschman. Head coach Kellen Moore said the receiver was excused from two practices for personal reasons shortly before the team announced his retirement.Saints reporter Nick Underhill subsequently reported that Polk was healthy, comfortable with his role and receiving significant practice snaps before deciding that stepping away was the best path forward for him.Polk had been competing for a roster position in a wide receiver group led by Chris Olave and featuring players including first-round rookie Jordyn Tyson and Devaughn Vele.A Shoulder Injury Cost Him His Second SeasonPolk underwent surgery on his shoulder in March 2025 and missed New Englands offseason practices and the beginning of training camp. He returned during the Patriots August 8 preseason game against the Washington Commanders but reinjured the same shoulder while attempting to block.The injury required another operation and ended his 2025 season before it began. New England placed Polk on injured reserve and traded him to New Orleans in September.The Patriots officially described the transaction as involving future considerations. Multiple reports said New Orleans received Polk and a 2028 seventh-round draft pick in exchange for a 2027 sixth-round selection.His Patriots Career Never Matched His Draft PositionNew England selected Polk with the 37th overall pick in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft. The Patriots acquired that selection after trading down from No. 34, passing on several other receivers before choosing Polk following his productive final season at Washington.He recorded 69 receptions for 1,159 yards and nine touchdowns in 2023 as the Huskies advanced to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.Polks rookie NFL season was considerably quieter. He appeared in 15 games, including seven starts, and caught 12 of his 33 targets for 87 yards and two touchdowns. His playing time and involvement in the offense declined during the second half of the season.Polk Had Called New Orleans a Clean SlateBefore training camp, Polk spoke positively about joining the Saints and described the change of teams as an opportunity to move beyond his difficult start in New England.Its a clean slate, he said, according to NFL.coms report on his retirement. Im just ready to come in, put my head down and work. Polk said he believed he still had something to prove after the limited production and injuries that defined his first two professional seasons.

It affects the transfer between the German club and Real Madrid. Schefter reports that Bryant hyperextended his knee, has a bone bruise, and a small fracture. All things considered, things could have been much worse, so Im chalking this one up as good news for the Bears defense. With Bryant out and Elijah Hicks on the PUP list, itll likely be Cam Lewis getting first-string reps alongside rookie safety Dillon Thieneman. Lewis signed a free agent deal this March with Chicago after playing with the Buffalo Bills since 2019. Hes appeared in 76 games with 14 starts in his career, with reps at both safety and nickel. Other safeties on the roster are Gervarrius Owens, Anthony Johnson Jr., and Skyler Thomas. Owens spent last year on the Bears practice squad, and he has 5 games under his belt from 2023 to 2024 with just 1 snap on defense. Pittsburgh has revamped its struggling bullpen at the deadline

It really is a "full circle" year for Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.At a time when Rodgers was seemingly creating a kinder, gentler vibe as he embarks on his final year in the NFL, Rodgers brought the knives out during a Monday appearance on ESPN's The Pat McAfee Show.Rodgers started by taking the Fifth Amendment in response to McAfee's first question. Rodgers then went off on Dr. Anthony Fauci, who last week repeatedly invoked the Fifth Amendment in testimony before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs."You got a pardon, and you're in front of and you pleaded [the Fifth] over 100 times?" Rodgers said. "What are you scared of, Tony? I thought you were the science. I thought you [were], 'I am science.' And you get up there and you can't answer a question?" The vitriol extended to ESPN, the owner of the channel on which he was appearing."How much time did the network spend on that?" Rodgers said. "How much time do they spend on my responses every week? On my vaccination status, on Taylor [Swift] and Travis [Kelce's] wedding? Did they do even a minute? Did they do even a minute on Tony Fauci? No, I bet they didn't." Rodgers then made reference to ESPN's conspicuously scant coverage of the Mike Vrabel-Dianna Russini situation."Then there was another scandal this offseason, too, involving a voter for MVP, for coach of the year," Rodgers said. "How much time did your network spend on that?"Later in the segment (after it migrated from ESPN to YouTube only), Rodgers returned to the Russini story."Like, you have literally an individual that maybe used to work at ESPN that covers our league at the highest level, and there's a major scandal, and it's just, like, nobody can fucking talk about it," Rodgers said. "What are we even doing here? . . . [I]f it's affecting certain things, if there's leaks going on, if there's tampering going on, if that person is also an MVP voter and a coach of the year voter."Rodgers also referred to ESPN as a "gutless organization" with "no integrity."As to Fauci, Rodgers eventually called him "an absolute criminal" while repeatedly labeling him an "absolute coward." (Rodgers at one point suggested that Fauci's wife is Ghislaine Maxwell's sister, before adding "allegedly.")Here's the part where I say some things about what Rodgers said.First, Rodgers is right about ESPN looking the other way on the Russini-Vrabel story. It's still not clear why that happened. Given that the relationship (whatever it was) between Russini and Vrabel apparently existed during Russini's time with ESPN, and to the extent it tainted her work (e.g., the 2021 reporting prior to the Julio Jones trade), ESPN prefers not to peer down that rabbit hole. What did the producers know about the situation, and did they perhaps welcome the benefits it generated for Bristol? Those questions haven't been asked by ESPN, and surely won't be.Second, as to Fauci's decision to repeatedly invoke the Fifth Amendment, Rodgers doesn't seem to realize that Fauci's pardon wouldn't apply to any effort to paint anything he said last week as perjury. Considering some of the specious (to say the least) prosecutions that have been attempted by the current administration, anything Fauci said could have been called perjury. Even if it wasn't.The only conclusion I can reach is that the sole reason he is calling me before this committee is to get me to say something anything that could vindicate his repeated public pledges that I end up, in his words quote behind bars, Fauci said in his opening remarks to the committee run by Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.).Third, Rodgers did not mention the one specific thing that caused him to attract the ire of many in 2021. In August of that year, Rodgers publicly lied about being vaccinated. Well, he didn't lie per se. He played a deliberate word game about being "immunized," forcing someone to ask a followup question about whether "immunized" means "vaccinated." (The followup question wasn't asked.)Rodgers had every right to not be vaccinated. He wanted to avoid the protocols the league developed (right or wrong) for unvaccinated players, including wearing a mask during press conferences. (Rodgers didn't wear one during the press conference when he claimed he was "immunized.") If he hadn't tested positive in November 2021, the hair-splitting never would have come to light.It's kind of amazing that folks are relitigating the fog-of-war niceties of a pandemic that killed more than a million Americans, and which prompted people to say and do all sorts of things (including a suggestion by a fairly influential person to inject bleach) in an effort to get it under control. The issue has been dusted off for one reason: To motivate voters who may be inclined to stay home for the upcoming midterm election, due to growing apathy and/or flat-out antipathy regarding the person who mused about bleach as a potential treatment for the virus.Bottom line? Rodgers's decision to take the high road as to his family is hardly an indication that he has fully committed to that path. On Monday, Rodgers took an extended jog on the low road to the likely dismay of the executives at ESPN who had to hold their breath and count the seconds until it all finally ended.
