Josh Allen: You knock enough at the door, it's going to open at some point
Buffalo's postseason loss to Denver was notable and consequential in that it resulted in the firing of former head coach Sean McDermott. It was also a game in which quarterback Josh Allen committed four turnovers, including an inexplicable fumble with seconds remaining in the first half that allowed the Broncos to take a 10-point lead at halftime. While the Bills have moved forward with Joe Brady as head coach, Kevin Clark of ESPN asked Allen in a joint interview with Brady how he processed his latest postseason loss in the divisional round. After starting his answer in jest with, Next question, Allen talked about how the Bills have to continue persevering.I mean, definitely weve watched it, weve put it in the past, weve learned from it, Allen said. Weve been in the playoffs a lot of times in the last however many years Ive been here now. And just continuing to find ways to learn from it.Its a hard pill to swallow sometimes because we havent gotten it done. But you knock enough at the door, its going to open at some point. Thats what we have to keep doing, is keep knocking on that door and giving ourselves chances to be in that situation again. The Bills have lost in the divisional round in four of the last five seasons. Theyve also lost twice in the conference championship to the Chiefs since 2020.

Israel fans can attend Republic of Ireland fixture
Israel will be the designated home team when they play Republic of Ireland in Debrecen on 27 September [Getty Images]Israel supporters will be in attendance when their side face the Republic of Ireland in the Nations League next month but no away fans will be facilitated.Amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, both games between the sides in Group B3 will be played at neutral venues, with Israel the designated home team at the Nagyerdei Stadion in Debrecen in Hungary on 27 September where a "small allocation" of their supporters will be permitted to attend. The reverse fixture will be played in Serbia and the Football Association of Ireland [FAI] have confirmed that game on October 4 will be played entirely behind closed doors."The association appreciates the passion and commitment that Ireland supporters always show when following its teams around the world, but operational challenges and safety and security concerns led to this decision being made," said an FAI statement."The Israel Football Association have confirmed that a small allocation of its own supporters will be accommodated for their home game in Debrecen, Hungary."'We shouldn't be in this position' on Israel games - ColemanPlayers won't be stopped from taking stand - Collins on Israel fixturesThe FAI have faced calls to boycott both games but in June said to do so would have "a profound impact on the whole of Irish football".The Israeli military launched a campaign in Gaza in response to the unprecedented Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on 7 October 2023, in which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 were taken hostage.Since the start of the war, at least 73,377 people have been killed in Gaza, according to the Hamas-run health ministry, whose figures are considered reliable by the UN.Protests have taken place outside the Dail [Irish parliament] pressing for a boycott of the games.A friendly with Qatar at the Aviva Stadium in May was also twice disrupted when tennis balls featuring the Palestine flag were thrown onto the pitch, while a 'Stop the Game' campaign has been launched by the group Irish Sport for Palestine.

Future of 43m Liverpool transfer target made clear
Future of 43m Liverpool transfer target made clearLiverpool haven't been anywhere near as busy as everyone expected them to be this summer. The Anfield outfit were meant to have a massive overhaul of their ranks and rebuild their team from the ground up.Indeed, the Reds did spent over 450 million on new players during the 2025-26 season but, for one reason or another, things just never really clicked. This led to Andoni Iraola being appointed as Liverpool's new head coach which felt like the start of a new beginning. However, fast forward to now and only two new players have been added. This is miles away from where Liverpool need to be and now, the fact that they're being linked with several new players every other day is hardly surprising.Change is clearly needed at Anfield but, with how competitive and inflated the market is at the moment, there's no guarantee that the moves Liverpool need to make will be completed. However, it's clear that some deals for players they're being linked with will need to get done soon, otherwise, they may have no choice but to move on.Francisco Conceciao sees Chelsea as a better move for himself than LiverpoolLiverpool desperately need new attackers to be added to their ranks. One of the Reds' main problems last season was the lack of chances that they managed to convert. And, with Hugo Ekitike side-lined until who knows when, it means that one of Liverpool's main goal scorers will be absent from Iraola's plans for a decent chunk of the season. This has been common knowledge at Liverpool ever since Mohamed Salah announced that he was leaving with fans believing that changes would be made to their ranks almost instantly. However, we're now over a month into the summer transfer window and only one attacker has been brought in.Indeed, several have been linked with potential moves but, unless these negotiations or links lead to a concrete deal, they'll all be for nothing. And now, as per a fresh update from La Gazzetta dello Sport, it seems like Francisco Conceicao, a player who has been linked with a 43 million move to Liverpool for a while, has now made a decision on his future."Juve and Chelsea, in short, could return to the negotiating table very soon, after having floated a deal for Cambiaso at the beginning of the summer," they wrote."Conceiao would like to stay in Turin, but he knows the rules of the transfer market well: Carnevali must sell a top player, and there are some interesting offers for the winger."Mendes has good relations with Chelsea and Liverpool, but less so with United, who have made inquiries with Juve. Chelsea might be the most appealing option for Conceiao, who could then intensify discussions between Juve and Chelsea over the defender, too."Bet 10, Get 30 in Free BetsOpen an account and place a qualifying bet of 10 at min odds of 1/5 (1.2) or greater.18+New UK/ROI customers. GambleAware.org30 FREECLAIM NOWLiverpool need to figure out which attackers they want to sign before it's too lateLiverpool still have around a month left to sign all of the players that they need to.If they choose against bringing anyone in and end up sticking with their current crop of players, it's unlikely that things will end well.Iraola is expected to make a massive difference at Anfield this season but, without a fair few more players being brought in, there's no way that he'll be able to do that.At the moment, Conceicao feels like the most likely player to join Liverpool but, if he has his heart set on staying with Juventus or joining Chelsea, that's yet another player off the market. If Liverpool don't get their act together and start getting deals over the line, they're going to be left in a rather precarious situation. And, after the campaign they've just had, they can't really afford to do much worse.

Jets' Armand Membou could be a top-10 OT in the NFL by the end of 2026
The rebuilding New York Jets need young players to continue ascending. That is precisely what is happening at training camp for sophomore offensive tackle Armand Membou. All signs indicate Membou is capable of establishing himself as an elite offensive tackle in the NFL this coming season.Much has been made about the early battles between Membou and rookie No. 2 overall pick David Bailey. Those sessions have been good-on-good at camp. Day 4 of training camp workouts had the Jets in pads, and Membou responded with a downright dominant performance.Membou shut down multiple pass rushers during one-on-ones at Monday's practice, according to local reporters in attendance. Some of Membou's victims during pass-rushing drills included Bailey, Will McDonald IV and Kingsley Enagbare. The second-year blocker looks totally prepared to take a big step forward in 2026.The Jets' offense is expected to benefit from their protection unit. Olu Fashanu and Joe Tippmann are additional rookie-contract players trending in the right direction. Looking around the Jets' entire offensive line though, it's Membou who appears to possess the most upside.Membou is emerging as a potential star at Jets training camp. One-on-ones always have a back-and-forth nature to them, but Membou has won the majority of his reps. Hopefully the Jets have a budding superstar on their hands.Jets Wire will continue to provide updates throughout the 2026 NFL season. Real Madrid youngster Franco Mastantuono chooses his next destination
Real Madrid youngster Franco Mastantuono chooses his next destinationDespite having joined Real Madrid only last summer for more than 60 million, the young forward Franco Mastantuono is already seemingly close to leaving the Merengue club. However, he will leave only temporarily this summer, as Los Blancos are looking to send him to a team that can offer him regular playing time. The Argentine was not a part of the squad for the friendly match against Fiorentina, and has also not trained with his teammates in the two days following that game. The reason for his absence is not an injury or another physical problem, but the fact that he is close to completing a departure on loan.Until recently, it was unclear which side he will pick, as several clubs were interested in him. He himself wanted to return to River Plate, but Real Madrid closed this option for him, as they wanted him to continue his adaptation in Europe. Three Italian clubs also showed interest in him, including AC Milan, Napoli, and Fiorentina. Now, according to MARCA, the player has already made his decision, as he has given his word to Fiorentina that he will play for them next season. Now, the Serie A side is negotiating with Real Madrid the terms of his loan. The Viola were the first one to make a move for the Argentine, and their confidence in the player is bearing fruit, as they have got his nod for a loan. Another factor that convinced the forward to choose Fiorentina was their willingness to let him play in his desired attacking midfielder role. For now, Real Madrid and Fiorentina need to work out his salary distribution, and once an agreement on this aspect is reached, Franco Mastantuono will be able to travel to Italy to begin an important chapter in his career.

Jaylen Brown has request for Sixers teammates if they win championship
The Philadelphia 76ers are certainly going to be in the running to win a title in the 2026-27 season led by the talented core they have assembled. The Sixers will field one of the strongest starting lineups in the history of the game with Jaylen Brown and LeBron James joining Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid, and VJ Edgecombe.Brown and James have both had success in their previous stops with Brown winning finals MVP in 2024 with the Boston Celtics while James, obviously, brings his decorated resume to Philadelphia. James has won four championships while winning finals MVP in all four of those championship runs. It will take time to get chemistry down and have everybody on the same page, but Philadelphia will be dangerous once that happens. With that being said, Brown has a request for his Sixers teammates if they do win a championship. The star forward did just go skydiving to overcome his fear of heights and he is inviting his teammates to do the same. James responded as any normal person would. If the Sixers win it all, Jaylen Brown says the entire team is going skydiving.I told VJ, Max, Bron, and Embiid we win the championship everybody going skydivingBron texted back and said "BOY, HELL NO"LMFAOOOOOOOOOOO(H/t @ainnunbutnews) pic.twitter.com/viBPPlxn3J BronMuse (@BronMuse) August 4, 2026Brown will be looking for his second championship after leading the Celtics in 2024 while James will be looking for his fifth. Meanwhile, the Sixers are a team that has not been past Round 2 since the Allen Iverson days in 2001. That will be an accomplishment that guys like Embiid and Maxey will be looking to finally get done during their time together in the City of Brotherly Love. This article originally appeared on Sixers Wire: Jaylen Brown has request for Sixers teammates if they win championship

Bills lineman savours punching rookie after cheap shot at practice
Some people love training camp mayhem, others like former Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott did not, and were not sure what Joe Bradys stance is on practice fights because he didnt speak to reporters after Tuesdays physical session. On Day 5 of training camp at St. John Fisher University, the sun was finally out, the heat was up and with the Bills wearing their pads for the entire practice for the first time, not surprisingly all of those factor led to some spirited altercations during the two-hour workout.Thats football for you, thats what it is, said rookie linebacker Kaleb Elarms-Orr who delivered a late hit on tight end Dalton Kincaid which sparked a mini-brawl late in the session.Kincaid caught a pass from Josh Allen and ran a few steps before the whistle blew to end the play, but Elarms-Orr played through the echo as they say and leveled Kincaid and tempers erupted.I was just running to the ball, people said he already went down but I didnt see him go down, Elarms-Orr said. I was in my drop and I saw him spin and I thought he was still up and I just hit him.Well, it was not a smart play by the rookie in a training camp practice and Brady pulled him aside once everyone sort of went back to their neutral corners and gave him a stern talking to.The hit prompted a heated response from several offensive players and first on the scene was tight end Dawson Knox, followed by offensive lineman Alec Anderson who lives for this kind of stuff.I was in on that last one when Dalton got hit, the always feisty Anderson said. We had nice little scuffle standing up and then we went to the ground. Shout out to the rookie linebacker Kaleb. I didn't enjoy him hitting our guy after the whistle, but I enjoyed punching him in the face a couple times and choking him out. So that's always enjoyable.Fights were the theme of the day at #Bills camp:"Shoutout to the rookie linebacker Kaleb [Elarms-Orr].""I don't mind seeing a little piss & vinegar coming out of the rookies.""You'd rather say 'chill' than 'sic 'em'... that's a good thing."#BillsMafia@BuffaloPluspic.twitter.com/kDBm4ABKyf Dan Fetes (@danfetes) August 4, 2026Earlier in the practice, rookie outside linebacker TJ Parker got a little too aggressive with running back Frank Gore Jr. after a run down the sideline and took him to the ground. One of Gore's offensive teammates - couldn't tell who it was in the maze of players - came over and shoved Parker and Parker responded with a swing before other players intervened. Also, rookie offensive lineman Jude Bowry got into a scuffle with veteran linebacker Michael Hoecht and Hoechts helmet got ripped off in the process. It was great. I love it, it gets my testosterone up these days, Anderson said. Really gets the blood pumping, everything flowing. I just like going out there and being able to hear the pads thud, and every now and then a fight happens. It kind of builds the resiliency and the grittiness of the team and I think that we need that. Here are some of my other observations from Day 5:Josh Allen threw a beauty to DJ MooreThe best play of camp so far:Josh Allen airing it to DJ Moore in triple coverage. This is neat. https://t.co/l38hm6BunB Dan Fetes (@danfetes) August 4, 2026The highlight of the day, and maybe the entire five days of camp, was the bomb Allen threw which Moore hauled in despite three starting defensive backs - Christian Benford, Maxwell Hairston and Cole Bishop - all in close proximity.Maybe throwing into that coverage isnt the smartest idea in the regular season, but the Bills offense needs to take a few more risks this season because thats the kind of explosive play the offense has sorely lacked the last few years.Their connection has been unreal, wide receiver Khalil Shakir said. Like when you watch stuff like that, it feels fake, like how beautiful that play was. DJs just gliding, all three DBs looked like they were straining to get there and DJ is just chilling, and the ball, absolutely unreal, dropped it right in the bread basket. Its a beautiful thing to see, the connection there every single day. The growth that has come within that, its going to help us win games for sure.Ray Davis knows he has a jobLast season, Davis took over the Bills primary kickoff return duties and thanks to a touchdown return against the Texans, he wound up leading the NFL with a 30.8-yard average and that earned him All-Pro recognition. The third-year player shares the backup running back duties behind James Cook with Ty Johnson, but when it comes to kickoff return, Davis is the man.The kickoff return game, you need two, but the chances of Ray being back there the first time we return a kick, pretty good, special teams coordinator Jeff Rodgers said Tuesday.Rodgers added that the Bills need to find a second returner because he will probably deploy two men deep, and that player is an unknown at this point, same for the punt return job which is wide open as well.Rodgers reeled off the names of four receivers - Keon Coleman, Khalil Shakir, Mecole Hardman and newly-signed Dante Pettis - as players in the mix, but there are others who are getting looks. In fact, Davis has even caught a few punts. Before the new kickoff rules were implemented, the kickoff return job was greatly diminished because kickers routinely blasted the ball into the end zone for a touchback. Now with the ball in play so much more, you need good and reliable kickoff returners. But now punt return has lessened in value because punters have become so good at hang time and directional kicking, and returns have decreased. Now, the main skill for a punt returner is being able to catch the ball, and then making sound decisions once they do that.Ball security and decision making have a lot to do with the guy's success as a punt returner, Rodgers said. The skill set athletically is what kind of makes a guy ascend, but if you can't catch it or you make bad decisions, youre probably not going to be out there getting a whole lot of chances.Davison Igbinosun finding his wayThe 2026 second-round pick is battling 2025 first-round pick Maxwell Hairston for a starting cornerback job, but right now Hairston is getting all the reps with the starting unit.Igbinosun is trying to indoctrinate himself into the NFL while also learning a new defense and getting used to new teammates, a combination that always makes things difficult for rookies.I think I've been doing well, definitely room to improve, but its my first NFL training camp, I'm learning a lot, going with the punches, he said. Just trying to keep competing.Regarding his competition with Hairston, he said, I think the saying is iron sharpens iron and another is man sharpens man. Were trying to learn as much from each other because he's good at things and I'm also good at some things. So we're just trying to share, be the best version of ourselves. One of the reasons the Bills traded up into the second round to take Igbinosun was for his man coverage skills which are going to be more necessary in Jim Leonhards defense, and Igbinosun likes to think thats a strength of his that will pay off.Definitely, he said. I would say I'm a press man corner, I'm a man coverage corner. I think that's what I want to do. Youve got to have good eyes (in terms of seeing the quarterback but also in route recognition) when you're playing man because you want to get a good read with the quarterback and then transition your eyes to the receiver.Sal Maiorana has covered the Buffalo Bills for more than four decades including 37 years as the full-time beat writer/columnist for the D&C.
