Tarik Skubal looking to fit in as he prepares for his first start with the Dodgers
CHICAGO Tarik Skubal wants to be a chameleon in a sense with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Blending in normally is quite difficult for a player with two Cy Young Awards, but Los Angeles isnt exactly a normal team.Skubal is learning his way around the loaded Dodgers after he was acquired in a blockbuster trade with Detroit. The left-hander will make his first start for the two-time defending World Series champions on Tuesday night against the Chicago Cubs. The entire focus of this organization is on winning championships, and thats my entire focus of playing baseball, Skubal said, so were very much aligned and Im ready to go out there and compete and give this organization and city everything that Ive got.Skubal joins a rotation that also includes All-Stars Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Justin Wrobleski, to go along with Roki Sasaki and Eric Lauer. Shohei Ohtani is slated to play catch as he continues his recovery from left knee soreness and a right biceps injury. Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow also are working their way back from injuries.Los Angeles acquired Kris Bubic in a trade with Kansas City in the runup to the deadline, but the lefty is on the 60-day injured list with shoulder and elbow issues.Emmet Sheehan was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City before the Dodgers 10-5 loss to the Cubs. The 26-year-old right-hander was 1-7 with a 5.98 ERA in his last 10 starts.I think for everyone, I think its the right thing to do, manager Dave Roberts said. Its going to give him a chance to reset.Los Angeles also placed catcher Dalton Rushing on the 10-day injured list with right elbow inflammation. Catcher Chuckie Robinson and right-hander Jonathan Hernndez were brought up from the minors, and right-hander Wyatt Mills was designated for assignment.Dalton said that hes had bouts of this in the past, Roberts said. So I guess its a good thing that he has kind of dealt with it. But I dont think anyone knows how long its going to be.Los Angeles reacquired catchers Ben Rortvedt and Hunter Feduccia in separate trades, and Roberts said Rortvedt is expected to join the team Tuesday. The Dodgers have dropped four in a row, matching their season high. With top catcher Will Smith also on the IL with a neck issue, depth behind the plate is a potential concern for the NL West leaders. But they sure look as if they are primed to make a run at another championship, especially with Skubal in the fold. Its always nice writing a starting pitcher in your lineup like that, a smiling Roberts said. The 29-year-old Skubal pitched 6 2/3 innings of three-run ball against Baltimore in his final start for Detroit. The Tigers blew a 7-0 lead on their way to a 10-9 loss to the Orioles in 12 innings. The acquisition of Skubal reinforces the Dodgers status as the majors most imposing franchise and public enemy No. 1 for fans of other teams.Every team could trade for me, you know. Every team could make that acquisition, Skubal said, and I dont really sympathize with people that blame the Dodgers for anything theyve done. Theyve developed a really good organization. They draft well, they acquire talent really well, retain talent. Its a winning organization.Skubal is 7-5 with a 2.79 ERA and 116 strikeouts in 96 2/3 innings this year. He also has performed well in the postseason, going 2-1 with a 2.04 ERA in six playoff starts over the past two years.Skubal is eligible for free agency after this season, and the trade gives the Dodgers an opportunity to begin making their case for a long-term deal. But he stayed away from any free agency talk, keeping the focus on helping his new team right now.Im not going to sit here and say Im the big piece, he said. Theyve been a pretty good baseball team without me. So Im just going to try and show up and kind of be a chameleon in a sense and fit right into these guys and just, you know, gel with them. Theyve got the winning recipe. They understand what it takes to win.

Los Angeles has lost four straight games, including a weekend sweep at home against the red-hot Red Sox and a 10-5 loss to the Cubs on Monday night. What better way to right the ship and get things going back in the right direction? How about the back-to-back American League Cy Young winner on the mound? Coming into Tuesday night's showdown, the Cubs rank second in MLB in runs per game (5.13) and are among the league's best offensive teams. They lead MLB in walks (473), rank second in on-base percentage (.339), and sit fourth in RBIs (533).

Kansas mens hoops signs a five-year contract to play in the Players Era Festival through 2030-31
Mar 22, 2026; San Diego, CA, USA; Kansas Jayhawks head coach Bill Self reacts in the second half against the St. Johns Red Storm during a second round game of the mens 2026 NCAA Tournament at Viejas Arena. Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn ImagesKirby Lee/IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters ConnectLAWRENCE, Kan. Kansas has signed a five-year contract for the Jayhawks to participate in the Players Era Festival, tying one of college basketballs storied programs to one of the more innovative, forward-thinking tournaments in the sport. The Players Era began in Las Vegas in 2024 with the idea of funneling at least $1 million toward each participating schools name, image and likeness fund. Oregon wound up beating Alabama in the finale of the eight-team competition. The tournament expanded last year to 18 teams, when it went from an elimination-style tournament to a pool-based system where margin of victory mattered, and a four-team womens event began. The Jayhawks beat Tennessee in the third-place game of the mens event, while eventual national champion Michigan routed Gonzaga to win the championship.Along with at least $1 million in guaranteed payouts, an additional $12 million was allocated to teams based on performance. Now, the Jayhawks are locked into the tournament through the 2030-31 season, giving coach Bill Selfs team a marquee early-season showcase while ensuring the program has a lucrative NIL stream in an era where finances matter more than ever. The Players Era commitment to college basketball has been very impressive, Self said. They have brought in high level teams which creates great matchups during the pre-conference season. The Players Era has also produced great NIL opportunities for our players.Being locked in through the 2030-31 season is a reinforcement of the direction the Players Era is moving. Not only is it great for our players but it allows our fans to plan vacations to come cheer on the Jayhawks. The Players Era is expanding again this year to 24 teams, but it is splitting into an eight-team tournament and a 16-team event. Both will be played in Las Vegas over two weeks in November; the Jayhawks are part of the eight-team bracket along with Florida, Rutgers, Notre Dame, UNLV and Big 12 rivals Houston and West Virginia.Michigan, Alabama, Tennessee, St. Johns and Gonzaga are among the high-profile teams in the 16-team competition.Last year, the Players Era and the Big 12 announced a five-year deal in which the league would assume a 15% stake and guaranteed minimum annual revenues in exchange for sending at least eight teams to the tournament. The Jayhawks, Cougars and Mountaineers will be joined by Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas State, TCU and Texas Tech at the tournaments this November. Were grateful to have Kansas, one of the preeminent collegiate basketball programs, return for the next several years, Players Era CEO Seth Berger said. Its an extraordinary testament to what were building here with Players Era a competition that delivers an exceptional experience for both fans and student-athletes alike in an atmosphere that feels like March in November."

Ravens reach contract extension with 2-time Pro Bowl receiver Zay Flowers
The Baltimore Ravens have agreed to a four-year, $140 million contract extension with two-time Pro Bowl receiver Zay Flowers, according to a person with knowledge of the deal. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Tuesday because the terms hadn't been announced. The agreement, which includes $108 million guaranteed, is a sizable commitment to Flowers, who is coming off a season in which he caught 86 passes for 1,211 yards and five touchdowns. Baltimore drafted him in the first round in 2023, and the shifty 5-foot-9 receiver immediately became a factor with his quickness. He's now posted back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons as a top target for quarterback Lamar Jackson.Great day for the Ravens. Shoutout to Zay Flowers, Baltimore coach Jesse Minter said. Nothing better as a coach than to see those guys get what they deserve. Really happy for Zay and excited for him. I can't wait to see him thrive in our offense. The Ravens drafted a receiver in the first round three times from 2019 through 2023. They haven't done it again since taking Flowers. He's missed only one regular-season game in three seasons, although he was unavailable for the 2024 playoffs.Flowers became the fastest player in Ravens history (21 games) to reach 100 receptions and the first Raven with multiple 1,000-yard seasons in the first three years of his career. He ranked 11th in the NFL in receptions in 2025 and seventh in yards receiving. That was despite an underwhelming, injury-plagued season from Jackson and Baltimore's willingness to run the ball with Derrick Henry.Flowers was asked last week about his contract situation as he entered his fourth season.Honestly, I am just working right now. I am trying to get better. I leave that to my agents, he said. "Right now, I am trying to learn this offense, get closer to my teammates and my coaches, and just keep getting right for the season.___AP Pro Football Writer Rob Maaddi contributed to this report.

Boxer Heaney to retire after Warburton rematch
Nathan Heaney was inducted into Stoke-on-Trent's sporting hall of fame in 2025 [BBC]Middleweight boxer Nathan Heaney says he will retire from the sport following his rematch with Gerome Warburton in Birmingham next month.Heaney will take on Warburton, who upset the odds to beat him on points in Manchester in March, on the undercard of the headline bout between featherweights Liam Davies and Nathaniel Collins at Birmingham's BP Pulse Live venue. The 37-year-old, who has won 19 of his 22 bouts, said that giving up the sport he aspired to compete in since he was a child will be a wrench and outlined his hopes to remain in the sport in some capacity."It was a very difficult decision to make," Heaney told the BBC. "This is all I have ever dreamed of doing."To achieve what I always wanted to as a young lad but then to give it up it is quite sad, but boxing has always been my passion."If I put the effort into anything else that I did with boxing, I'll be OK, but it is just finding something that I will be as passionate about as I was with boxing."Heaney, who intends to take his wife on the honeymoon they never had once he hangs up the gloves, also paid tribute to the supporters who have been ringside throughout his career."We have had some incredible nights in Stoke-on-Trent over the years, so this is one last celebration as a city to show what we are all about," he said. "Hopefully, I can do the job."The fans got me here in the first place, in terms of the environment they made for me and the atmospheres at the King's Hall."I proved that we belonged here when I became British champion, so we worked really well in that regard."Heaney turned professional in 2017 and beat Denzel Bentley to claim the British middleweight title in 2023.In 2025, Heaney, who walks to the ring to the tune of Tom Jones' Delilah - a song synonymous with Stoke City FC - was inducted into Stoke-on-Trent's sporting hall of fame.In doing so, he joined the likes of footballers Gordon Banks and Sir Stanley Matthews, strongman Eddie Hall, athlete Jazmin Sawyers and darts legend Phil Taylor.

Sutherland holds nerve as Sunrisers edge past Spirit
The Hundred women's competition, HeadingleyLondon Spirit 136-7 (100 balls): Harris 51 (27); Sharma 2-18Sunrisers Leeds 142-5 (98 balls): Sutherland 37* (21); George 3-25Sunrisers Leeds won by five wicketsScorecard. TableAustralia all-rounder Annabel Sutherland led Sunrisers Leeds to a hard-fought win over London Spirit in The Hundred to keep their slim qualification hopes alive. After a strong start in pursuit of 137, dominated by Phoebe Litchfield's 30 off 17, Sunrisers then lost three wickets for two runs in the space of six balls as Spirit fought back into contention. But Sutherland added 54 for the fourth wicket with captain Dani Gibson, before a crucial cameo of 13 off five balls from fellow Australian Jess Jonassen got them over the line with two balls to spare.Sutherland finished unbeaten on 37 from 21 balls which included a stunning pull shot for six to hit the winning runs in style. Sunrisers' bowlers were also superb in the latter half of Spirit's innings which was fragmented by a rain delay, as Grace Harris' 51 at the top of the order put the home side in danger of conceding an imposing total. Spirit reached 91-1 off 50 balls before the rain, but proceeded to lose their last six wickets for just 35 runs as Harris and Marie Kelly fell within the first seven balls after the break. Sutherland chipped in with the big wicket of Marizanne Kapp for 18 while spinners Hannah Baker and Deepti Sharma impressed with two wickets apiece. The result helps Sunrisers move up to fourth in the table but they are still six points behind Manchester Super Giants in third, while Spirit are on the brink with just one win in five games so far.The Hundred 2026 tables, top run-scorers & wicket-takersWho am I?
