SPORTS.YAHOO.COMAn impressive young striker gets a loan move after impressing with Manchester City in AsiaAn impressive young striker gets a loan move after impressing with Manchester City in AsiaDivin Mubama impressed for Manchester City during their preseason tour of Asia. In three appearances, Mubama scored two goals and added an assist as his instincts and talent as a striker were impossible to miss. With how well Mubama performed, it did seem like Mubama was a bonafide option to be Erling Haalands backup if Omar Marmoush decided to leave Manchester City this summer. However, that option is now off the table. Divin Mubama has completed a loan move to Southampton for the 2026-27 season and Mubama should have the opportunity to grow as a striker in the Championship next season.Divin Mubama has left Manchester City to spend next season on loan with Southampton.Manchester City have confirmed that Divin Mubama will spend the 2026-27 season on loan with Southampton. Mubamas loan spell with Southampton will be his second loan spell in the Championship. He went out on loan to Stoke City last season and scored 5 goals in 26 appearances. However, a serious injury derailed Mubamas 2025-26 season. Mubama now has the opportunity to make the striker position his own at Southampton and hopefully kick on as a striker.Divin Mubama has the raw tools to be a very good striker, he now has the opportunity to refine his game this season. There is no doubt that Divin Mubama has the raw talent and potential to become a very good striker. His instincts and nose for goal are very good. This was on display during Manchester Citys three preseason friendlies in Asia. Both of Mubamas goals came from his ability to read the game and get into the right positions to profit from a good cross or the goalkeeper parrying the ball back into danger. Those instincts will carry Mubama far as a striker. However, there are areas of Mubamas game that do need to improve. His hold-up play remains a work in progress, which stood out in Asia. Playing consistently in the Championship should help Mubama further develop this aspect of his game. The Championship is a physical league, but Mubama has had a taste of playing in that particular league last season. That should help him for what lies ahead and Mubama should have the opportunities to prosper playing in a Southampton side who should challenge for promotion.Divin Mubama has completed a loan move to Southampton for the 2026-27 season. Mubama has the potential to develop into a very good number nine. It is hoped that he thrives in the Championship this season.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 262 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMNew York Giants training camp: Sights and sounds from Day 12The New York Giants returned to the practice field on Tuesday for their 12th training camp session of 2026 and second since they returned to East Rutherford. It was also the second of four consecutive closed practices scheduled Monday through Thursday, each running two-and-a-half hours. The team worked in shells rather than full pads, with head coach John Harbaugh indicating an alternating approach that points to full pads on Wednesday, shells again on Thursday, an off day Friday, and the preseason opener against the Minnesota Vikings at MetLife Stadium on Saturday afternoon.Heres a look at the sights and sounds from the Giants 12th training camp practice of 2026.Malik Nabers with the most acrobatic grab Ive seen from him this #Giants training camp as the WR continues to work back in individual drills. pic.twitter.com/C6rEhtVky1 Charlotte Carroll (@charlottecrrll) August 11, 2026Giants took the pads off for todays mostly jog-through practice. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMRams Star Puka Nacua Leaves Cowboys Joint Practice With InjuryLos Angeles Rams wide reciever Puka Nacua left Tuesdays practice early with trainer Reggie Scott and did not return. Nacua is in a contract year, and he is set to become the highest-paid wide reciever in the NFL, but he may already be injured. According to head coach Sean McVay, Nacua did in fact leave early, though there is no information on his injury, and the coach does not know what led to it. The Rams were hosting the Cowboys for a joint practice since both teams are in the LA area for their training camps, with Dallas basing out of Oxnard for the preseason. Jul 29, 2026; Los Angeles, CA, USA; Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua (12) speaks to media after training camp at Loyola Marymount University. Mandatory Credit: Kiyoshi Mio-Imagn ImagesJoint practices are the first time that teams get to compete against opposing players in a relatively controlled environment to limit injuries. Nacua is a player known for playing a very physical style that can result in injuries. He had a chest and ankle injury in 2-25, while in 2024, he suffered some issues with his right knee, which stemmed from training camp.Additionally, he had shoulder and rib injuries during his rookie year. His superpower is his aggressiveness at the point of attack and in terms of getting yards after contact. He tends to put his helmet down and run right into contact, taking few precautions, while also not fearing safeties or linebackers crashing into him in the middle of the field.Jul 31, 2026; Westchester California USA; Los Angeles Rams receiver Puka Nacua (12) signs autographs at training camp at Loyola Marymount University. Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn ImagesHow can an injury affect Nacuas contract? If he ends up suffering something notable, like his knee issue in the past, there could be real hesitation to pay Nacua, given he has picked up injuries every season. There are already questions about his viability long-term due to his style of play, and another injury would only further strengthen the case against him. However, Nacua made it clear that he is not changing how he plays.I know that physicality that I play with I dont think its ever going to change, Nacua said. Its ingrained in me, so continue to take care of my body in the ways that I need to.For the Rams and Nacuas sake, they better hope he does not suffer an injury, especially with Devantae Adams fragility. The post Rams Star Puka Nacua Leaves Cowboys Joint Practice With Injury appeared first on LA Sports Report.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 261 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

Tatum had the 8th most 3PM by a player through their first 9 seasons.Tatum needs 231 3PM this season to pass Pierce, which he can do if he averages 3.3 3PM in 70 games.MORE:Is Joe Mazzulla in Danger of Losing Head Coach Position With Celtics After 2026-27 Season?PPG Franchise RecordThis one isn't as likely to happen as the first record, but Tatum will be chasing his previous PPG record, set in the 2022-23 season, of 30.1 PPG.With Tatum now as the main superstar in Boston, there's a chance this can happen, but we'll first have to see how he plays in the first few months, after missing nearly the entire last season due to an injury. With his usage rate likely increasing, he'll have a great shot at breaking it if he's up for the task.Tatum averaged 21.1 FGA in the 2022-23 season, and that will likely be the same or higher this upcoming season, so the shot volume and opportunities are there to make a run at beating the record, which, if he does, would mean he produced an MVP-level season.MORE:Setting Realistic Expectations for Paul George's First Year With the CelticsSingle Season 3PM Franchise RecordIn the 2024-25 season, Derrick White, Payton Pritchard and Jayson Tatum all had over 250 3PM.White was the one who just came out on top with the franchise record, but that could be broken this season.Either of those three could do it, but I'd give Pritchard and Tatum the edge. They'd need 266 3PM to break White's record, which translates to about 3.8 3PM in 70 games.More CelticsLatest CelticsnewsTD Garden fan guide: What to know before you goComplete history of Celticschampionships0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 261 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMIt's official, Liverpool have just signed their next Jordan HendersonIt's official, Liverpool have just signed their next Jordan HendersonLiverpool have signed their next Jordan Henderson, it's now official. The former captain of the club was never really appreciated as much as he should have been during his time at Anfield. Sure, Henderson wasn't an icon, he wasn't a player who could even remotely live up to the performances Steven Gerrard delivered in the same role. But there's no denying he was a great role model and someone who set the standard. He was also a player desperate to make it at Anfield. At one point in his career, he had been written off. Liverpool were ready to discard him and offload him after he hadn't really fulfilled his promise. But he refused to go and he stayed and worked hard enough to get himself back in contention. By the end of Brendan Rodgers' era he was one of Liverpool's better players and under Jurgen Klopp he became an extremely crucial cog in Liverpool's machine.Without Henderson, there probably is no success at Anfield. Henderson's energy in midfield allowed the more technical players in the team to flourish. He was the one who pressed and who made Klopp's gegenpressing system work effortlessly.Of course, he did more than that.Xabi Alonso has recognised this at Chelsea right in this very moment. As did Thomas Tuchel for England. Henderson is a great figure to have in the dressing room.He is a vocal character who creates harmony. Like we said he sets the standards in training and he leads by example.Having players like him who are also very vocal and loud on the pitch is an underrated part of the game. Football is a team sport at the end of the day - communication is vital on the pitch.Henderson was constantly talking and he was known as the loudest voice at Anfield during his time at Liverpool.Liverpool have since lacked that authority figure in midfield. Dominik Szoboszlai could soon be that, but he is still growing in stature and he doesn't have the authority that Henderson once had.Virgil van Dijk is probably the most vocal player on the pitch, but even he doesn't compare to Henderson. The good news is that Liverpool have just added a player who has the same trait as the now Chelsea midfielder and who could add more leadership to Andoni Iraola's group for the next season.Much has been made about the signing of Ronald Araujo but while there are some concerns about his fitness and his recent form, people are overlooking the positive aspects of this deal.Liverpool have lost a lot of leaders this summer. Mo Salah and Andy Robertson have departed for pastures new. They need more authority figures and in Araujo they could find the perfect fit. After all, this is a player who has played over 200 games for Barcelona, he was their current club captain and he has that same trait that Henderson does.Araujo sets the standards in training. He works tirelessly and is very good at providing energy. On the pitch, like Henderson he is known as a strong communicator.I like to talk on the pitch, I'm talking the whole game. It's a way of being more focused, and that I think helps me and also the team, he said. This is the kind of player Liverpool need right now. Araujo's move has now become official and in the process Liverpool will have secured their next Henderson. The transfer is one to celebrate rather than to bemoan.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 428 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM'Difficult to handle': Shoaib Akhtar warns Pakistan ahead of England Test seriesFormer Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has warned the Babar Azam-led side to be prepared for tough conditions during their upcoming three-Test series against England. The first Test will begin at Headingley in Leeds on August 19. Akhtar believes England could prepare pitches that offer assistance to their seam bowlers and make things difficult for Pakistan's batters.Speaking in a recent interview with a local sports platform, as quoted by Geo News, the former right-arm pacer said England would have taken note of the mistakes made by the West Indies in their recent series against Pakistan. He expects the hosts to avoid giving Pakistan an opportunity to take control of the matches.Akhtar said England are likely to make use of conditions that help seam bowling, which could test Pakistan's batting line-up."England won't make the same mistake West Indies did that allowed Pakistan to get into a winning position. They'll prepare seam-friendly conditions, which will be very difficult for Pakistan to handle," Akhtar said. The series will be Pakistan's first Test tour of England since 2020 and is part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 202527 cycle. The second Test will be played at Lord's from August 27 to 31, while the third Test will take place at Edgbaston in Birmingham from September 9 to 13.Pakistan enter the series after drawing their two-Test tour of the West Indies 1-1. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCowboys defense shines in joint practice with Rams; big day for Revel, Overshown, BarronAt this point in training camp, players have grown tired of lining up against their own teammates. The prospect of cranking up the intensity against guys in different-colored uniforms is always a welcome novelty.Tuesday saw the Cowboys take a little trip eastbound on US-101, leaving behind their summer homebase in Oxnard for a joint practice with the Los Angeles Rams in Woodland Hills, Calif. And while the host team elected not to allow any fans to be present or cellphone video to be taken of anything other than individual drills and stretching, the assembled media provided followers with minute-by-minute reports on social media of how things went down once it went to offense-versus-defense on two adjoining fields. Both Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer and Rams head coach Sean McVay had hinted they'd be playing things close to the vest in this practice session, especially since the two teams will face each other for real in Week 15 of the season. That means fairly vanilla playcalling and somewhat limited previews of things like personnel groupings and formations. But the day nevertheless saw several Cowboys step up and make an impression, and the overall verdict on the team as a whole- especially Christian Parker's new-look defense- is that the 2026 Cowboys look much improved over the unit that got bullied by the Rams in a joint practice last summer. Here's a taste of how the workout went, as told by the reporters on the ground.Cowboys WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling is back in the mix today. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMLB power rankings: Brewers take the top spot as Dodgers fall to No. 3; Rays, Braves, Cubs round out top 5Its been only one week since the MLB trade deadline, but first impressions are important, and plenty of new faces around the league have introduced themselves to their new squads with their play for better or worse. For contending teams, that means seeing how these additions can boost the lineup, rotation or bullpen as the stakes increase with October approaching. For clubs that have fallen out of the mix, this time of the season brings opportunities for new names to establish themselves as pieces for the future. This weeks power rankings take a look at how the players who changed threads at the deadline have fared so far and speculate on their roles for their new clubs moving forward, whether thats for the postseason race or for next season and beyond.Jump to a team by clicking on the links below:AL East:Rays | Yankees | Red Sox | Orioles | Blue JaysAL Central:White Sox | Twins | Tigers | Guardians | RoyalsAL West: Astros | Rangers | Mariners | Athletics | AngelsNL East:Braves | Phillies | Marlins | Nationals | MetsNL Central:Brewers | Cubs | Cardinals | Pirates | RedsNL West:Dodgers | Diamondbacks | Padres | Giants | Rockies1. Milwaukee Brewers (74-45)With the Brewers having reportedly finished runners-up in the Tarik Skubal sweepstakes, right-hander Dustin May becomes a lot more compelling as Milwaukees lone rotation reinforcement as the team pushes for the best record in MLB. May turned in a quality start in his Brewers debut, including a notable uptick in cutter usage. Given his plus velocity and deep pitch mix, itll be interesting to see how the Brewers remix Mays repertoire, especially if theyre counting on him to be part of the postseason rotation.2. Tampa Bay Rays (72-46)Colorado and Sacramento werent the friendliest venues for Freddy Peralta to make his first two starts as a Ray, but the right-hander bounced back from a rough one at Coors Field (3 IP, 7 ER) with solid six innings against the As his longest outing since June 9. Arguably no team/player pairing has more to gain down the stretch than Peralta with his new club as he tries to rejuvenate his value heading into free agency and Tampa Bay pushes for the pennant. Also, catcher Liam Hicks hit a grand slam in his Rays debut, and reliever Tyler Wells has already struck out eight across 4 scoreless innings. Arguably no team improved its roster in multiple facets more than Tampa Bay, and its showing so far.3. Los Angeles Dodgers (71-48)The Dodgers rallied to get Tarik Skubal off the hook on Monday, but in his first two starts with his new team, the ace lefty was good, not great. Theres bound to be an adjustment period for Skubal as he settles into his new surroundings, and one interesting element of that will be his batterymates. With L.A.s lead catching duo of Will Smith and Dalton Rushing both on the injured list and not expected back anytime soon, the pressure is on Ben Rortvedt and Hunter Feduccia both acquired at the deadline to support not only Skubals transition to Los Angeles but also the rest of the star-studded pitching staff as the Dodgers push for one of the top two seeds in the NL postseason field.4. Atlanta Braves (71-48)With outfielder Lane Thomas likely relegated to a part-time role and reliever Brent Suter suited for lower-leverage situations, the post-deadline focus for Atlanta is veteran right-hander Tyler Mahle. Despite the Braves reported pursuits of Skubal and Jacob deGrom in trade talks, Mahle ended up being the lone reinforcement for Atlantas injury-ravaged rotation. While he made a brilliant first impression, with six scoreless innings at Yankee Stadium on Saturday, Mahle has a lot to prove now pitching for a contender after an underwhelming few months in San Francisco.5. Chicago Cubs (69-50)The Cubs desperately needed to add pitching at the deadline and did exactly that, reeling in two starters in Kevin Gausman and Clay Holmes, plus a hard-throwing reliever in Ryan Zeferjahn. Gausman was rock-solid in his Cubs debut, completing seven innings for just the second time this season in a win Friday in Kansas City. Holmes was less stellar, allowing four runs across four innings in a loss the next day, but that was his first major-league outing after he missed nearly three months due to a right fibula fracture, so lets see how he rounds back into form.6. New York Yankees (66-52)With Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger and Giancarlo Stanton all on the injured list, the Yankees opted to upgrade their lineup at the deadline rather than bolster their pitching staff, landing two talented hitters in Luis Garcia Jr. and Heliot Ramos. Garcia electrified the Bronx crowd with a go-ahead blast in his Yankees debut, but the bullpen went on to blow that game, and neither Garcia nor Ramos has done much with the bat since (though Garcia made quite the catch over the weekend). As with any Yankees deadline addition, a balanced diet of hype and scrutiny will likely follow these players in the coming months.7. Boston Red Sox (64-54)Adley Rutschmans highly anticipated (and utterly fascinating) Boston debut is on deck with his activation from the injured list. Meanwhile, the Red Sox will wait for Curtis Mead to return from a broken wrist suffered July 27 on a hit-by-pitch in his first game with the team. Another promising development: Hard-throwing lefty Erik Miller, acquired from San Francisco for former top prospect Marcelo Mayer, looks capable of supercharging a bullpen that already features two of the best relievers in the AL in Aroldis Chapman and Garrett Whitlock.8. Philadelphia Phillies (64-56)Luis Arraez notched five hits, including two doubles and a rare homer, in the Phillies series win over Washington last week, endearing himself to the Philly faithful in a hurry. He followed that by going hitless in three of his next four games, the first such drought of the season for the hit-collecting maven, an uncommon blip amid his triumphant return to All-Star form. More concerning than this small-sample skid for Arraez is that the reliever acquired alongside him, Caleb Kilian, is already on the injured list due to an oblique strain.9. Arizona Diamondbacks (64-56)The Snakes were the last team to make a trade leading up to the deadline, swinging a deal with St. Louis for outfielder Lars Nootbaar just before the buzzer but failing to land any reinforcements for the pitching staff. Nootbaars impact has been limited so far between left field and DH duties, but his keen eye and strong on-base skills should shine through and boost this lineup: His 18.5% chase rate is fourth-lowest in MLB among hitters with at least 200 plate appearances. How Dustin May, Tarik Skubal and Luis Arraez, among others, impact their new teams will be among the top storylines down the stretch.Bruno Rouby/Yahoo Sports10. San Diego Padres (63-57)Like Peralta and Skubal, right-hander Casey Mize has already made two starts with his new club. He got blasted by the D-backs in his Padres debut (3 IP, 8 ER) but bounced back on Monday, with six strong innings at home against the NL-leading Brewers, after which he credited the raucous Petco Park crowd as an uplifting factor. Wednesday will be veteran lefty Robbie Rays turn to show a little better than he did in his San Diego debut, when he allowed four runs and five walks in a loss to Houston.11. Chicago White Sox (61-56)Immediately thrust into ultra-high-leverage in the late stages of Thursdays outrageous marathon at Fenway Park, Huascar Brazobn was unable to nail down the four-out save, sending the game to extra innings and an eventual tough loss for Chicago. To begin that game, veteran righty Luis Castillo made his White Sox debut and surrendered five runs over four innings, an abbreviated outing that contributed in part to the bullpen chaos that ensued. Both Brazobn and Castillo should help this pitching staff, but whether they represent enough of a boost to ensure Chicago a postseason spot remains to be seen.12. Houston Astros (61-59)Astros outfielders combined to rank 29th in fWAR and 30th in OPS through the end of July, so it was no surprise to see Houston add a proven contributor such as Daulton Varsho at the deadline. But Varsho is in the midst of a down season by his standards and can address this glaring roster shortcoming only so much on his own. He homered in San Diego over the weekend, but hell really need to heat up to validate being the lone deadline addition for a Houston club desperate to return to October.13. Detroit Tigers (58-60)Despite getting zero innings or plate appearances from anyone acquired at the deadline, the team that traded Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize is doing just fine without them, surging in recent weeks to the ALs best run differential and within striking distance of a wild-card spot. With their new-look rotation led by breakout righty Troy Melton and a youthful lineup headlined by Rookie of the Year front-runner Kevin McGonigle and top outfield prospect Max Clark, Tigers fans dont need to worry too much about how the prospects acquired for Skubal are performing in the minors though Zyhir Hope did already homer as the big-league team continues to push for a postseason spot. Now, how badly will the Tigers miss Skubal and Mize if they indeed rally to play in October? Thats another story.14. Texas Rangers (60-59)The most interesting deadline activity for Texas was a trade that didnt happen: a reported deal to send ace Jacob deGrom to Atlanta that the right-hander rejected using his no-trade clause. With that blockbuster quashed, the Rangers ended up as nonfactors in either direction, neither buying nor selling to a meaningful degree. Perhaps Texas can help resuscitate new catcher Logan OHoppes value, but hes in Triple-A right now. Chase Silseth is a useful bullpen piece but not one who will change the fortunes of a shaky unit that has been leaking runs for months now. This is a tough team to figure out.15. Miami Marlins (60-59)Despite hanging around on the periphery of the NL wild-card race, the Marlins subtracted from their major-league club at the deadline, sending out catcher Liam Hicks and pitchers Lake Bacher and Braxton Garrett in deals that landed prospects. But the Marlins did acquire righty reliever Victor Vodnik from Colorado, and hes under team control through 2029. Vodniks four-seam fastball averages 98.6 mph, and his 55% career groundball rate is exceptional. If he can throw more strikes and lean on his slider more for whiffs a more likely strategy pitching away from Coors Field, where breaking balls break less Vodnik could become a high-leverage weapon for Miami.16. Minnesota Twins (59-61)While Jeff Hoffman and A.J. Minter are still settling into their new roles in the bullpen, Dean Kremer has already provided a surprising jolt to Minnesotas starting staff. Kremer was a mainstay in Baltimores rotation the past four years, but injuries limited his availability and effectiveness this season before he was dealt to the Twins for 18-year-old outfield prospect Jhomnardo Reyes. On Monday at Target Field, Kremer greeted his old Orioles pals by allowing just one hit across seven innings in one of the best outings of his career, contributing to a Twins victory that put some distance between two clubs fighting to stay afloat in the AL wild-card race.17. St. Louis Cardinals (59-60)The Cardinals were awfully quiet until the last few hours before the deadline, when they unloaded rental pitchers Dustin May and JoJo Romero to Milwaukee and sent Nootbaar to Arizona. St. Louis netted some intriguing prospects in return, most notably outfielders Josiah Ragsdale and Alexander Frias. Frias is an 18-year-old with electric lefty bat speed whom some outlets already peg as a top-100 prospect. Ragsdale is an athletic, 22-year-old center fielder finally turning his physical gifts into standout production: Hes one of just three minor-league hitters with 20 homers and 30 stolen bases.WELCOME TO THE CARDINALS ORG JOSIAH RAGSDALE! Newly acquired prospect in the Dustin May trade obliterates a 110 MPH homer in his first at bat with Double-A Springfield! pic.twitter.com/J2sdSnR9wP Springfield Cardinals (@Sgf_Cardinals) August 6, 202618. Cleveland Guardians (58-61)Going 1-5 after the deadline was especially disappointing after Cleveland added aggressively (by its standards), bringing in Nathaniel Lowe and Jo Adell and being the surprise landing spot for All-Star left-hander Foster Griffin. But Griffin struggled in his Guardians debut, surrendering five earned runs across four innings against the Mets his shortest outing of the season as Cleveland was swept at home. Lowe has provided some pop, but Adell has struck out 10 times through his first six games with his new club. The process of adding these players might have been sound, but the results havent been there yet.19. Pittsburgh Pirates (58-62)Pittsburgh completely remodeled its bullpen at the deadline but hasnt had many late and narrow leads to protect over the past week, meaning weve yet to see the new crew of Luke Weaver, Camilo Doval, Kirby Yates and Lake Bachar deployed in high-leverage circumstances. More troubling is the fact that the Pirates rotation ERA (4.44) is now higher than that of the bullpen (4.21), a stunning and discouraging stat that highlights the fact that the starting staff has also been sorely disappointing. What once looked like a team fully capable of ending the National Leagues longest playoff drought is slipping toward irrelevance with September approaching.20. Washington Nationals (59-61)Heres another team that rebuilt its bullpen at the deadline, and the early returns have been quite refreshing. Yovanny Cruz acquired from New York in the Garcia trade has electric stuff that fits in the ninth inning if he can harness his command. Lefty Will Dion acquired from Cleveland in the Griffin deal tossed three scoreless innings on Sunday, and veteran Jake Bird threw a scoreless ninth to close out that game and complete a sweep of Cincinnati. Less encouraging: Connelly Early, the promising, young lefty starter acquired from Boston for Mead, experienced forearm tightness during a live BP session last week, so its unclear when hell make his Nationals debut.21. Seattle Mariners (56-63)Its not all new right fielder Taylor Wards fault that Seattle has scored eight total runs across six games since the deadline, but his 4-for-23 with zero walks a notable number as the current AL walks leader didnt help matters. Nor did righty reliever Seranthony Dominguez serving up two homers against Detroit in his Mariners debut, an ominous first impression as the lone addition to a bullpen that seemed to need more of a boost. As has been the case all season, the talent on paper and the weak American League could enable a late-season surge for the Mariners, but theyre running out of time.22. Toronto Blue Jays (57-63)Torontos bold buy-and-sell deadline approach sent out fan favorites Gausman, Hoffman and Varsho while bringing in some exciting pieces for the short and long term, notably right-hander Jos Soriano, who is under contract through 2028. While Sorianos line in his Jays debut was unremarkable 4 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 3 K his attack plan was much different from his time in Anaheim: He registered his lowest percentage of four-seam fastballs (12%) in any outing this season while racking up a season-high 12 whiffs on his knuckle-curve.23. Baltimore Orioles (57-62)The stunning blockbuster sending Rutschman to the Red Sox invites scrutiny on the package of prospects headed back to Baltimore in the deal. That includes right-hander Anthony Eyanson, considered among the top handful of pitching prospects in the game, who struck out nine in his organizational debut, and 19-year-old outfielder Enddy Azocar, who posted a 1.236 OPS across his first five games for Baltimores High-A affiliate. These are exciting prospects, but itll take some time to get over the Rutschman deal, especially if Baltimore finishes with a losing record for a second straight year.Enddy Azocar (BAL) is off to a hot start to his Orioles career after being traded to Baltimore last week. The 19-year-old outfielder continues to flash advanced power for his age and has a knack for pulling fly balls. New York Mets (53-67)No team added more minor-league talent at the deadline than the Mets, who netted a dozen young players across seven trades that dismantled nearly the entire major-league pitching staff. While infielder Jefferson Rojas (from the Holmes deal) widely regarded as the best player of the bunch acquired hasnt done much yet, outfielder Aidan Smith (Peralta) and infielder Billy Amick (Minter) have gotten off to fast starts, with Smith homering in four of his first six games and Amick going deep five times to raise his season total to 28, tied for ninth in MiLB.BILLY BARRELS DOES IT AGAIN Billy Amick blasts a three-run home run and drives in milien Pitre and Jefferson Rojas with his fourth home run of the series Amick has 28 home runs at Double-A and has smashed 5 HR over his first seven games with Binghamton. x pic.twitter.com/cPEJGT8VLf Binghamton Rumble Ponies (@RumblePoniesBB) August 9, 202625. Cincinnati Reds (56-61)The Reds were one of the least active teams at the deadline, despite having several expiring contracts and little hope of contending. The only player-for-player swap was sending Nathaniel Lowe to Cleveland for 19-year-old Venezuelan righty Alejandro Rivera, who is having a nice stateside debut but is years away from contributing in Cincinnati. The Reds appeared to make a statement that it was worth standing pat when they swept the As last week and passed the Pirates in the standings, but then news broke that ace Hunter Greene needs elbow surgery and Cincinnati was swept in Washington over the weekend. Ouch.26. San Francisco Giants (49-70)While theres real excitement about some of the pitching prospects San Francisco acquired, such as Ramon Marquez (from the Arraez deal), Miguel Mendez (Ray) and Henry Lalane (Ramos), by far the most fascinating post-deadline subplot will be what the Giants can get out of Marcelo Mayer. Mayer is reportedly nearing a rehab assignment as he works his way back from a stress reaction in his left forearm and should get significant playing time in San Franciscos infield down the stretch. Lets see if his early-career struggles were indicative of the kind of player he is or if Boston gave up on the former top prospect too soon.27. Kansas City Royals (49-71)The Royals didnt have much to deal away despite toiling in last place. It wouldnt be shocking to see righty reliever Carlos Duran (acquired from the Dodgers for Kris Bubic) emerge in the big-league bullpen before the end of his season, nor would it be surprising to see right-handed pitching prospect Lucas Braun (acquired from Atlanta for Lane Thomas)compete for a rotation spot next spring.28. Athletics (47-72)The As did next to nothing at the deadline and then parted ways with longtime front-office head David Forst. So if we are to follow the directive of this exercise and check on the deadline acquisitions, that unfortunately is only one name: right-hander Seth Johnson, who faced four batters and recorded zero outs on Monday as the As squandered a late lead against the Rays. Oof.29. Los Angeles Angels (45-74)Interim general manager John Mozeliak didnt completely tear down this roster, but he did execute more sell-style moves than the Angels have in years. The two most significant trades sending Zeferjahn to the Cubs and Soriano to the Blue Jays netted two very different young position players who could blossom into core pieces: Moiss Ballesteros and Arjun Nimmala. Ballesteros is a lefty-swinging catcher/DH whose defensive limitations made him difficult to fit into the Cubs long-term plans, but his offensive track record is immaculate, and he has been blistering the ball with his new club. Nimmala is still just 20, has already reached Double-A and has all the tools to be an impact shortstop, but his development is going to take time. Still, the payoff could be tremendous, and he could represent an exciting next chapter for the Angels, if and when Zach Neto is traded.30. Colorado Rockies (46-73)He hasnt made his Rockies debut yet, but lets see if Connor Norby benefits from a change of scenery and Colorado benefits from buying low on the 26-year-old after he was squeezed out of Miamis infield picture. Norbys right-handed bat always produced in the upper minors, and theres some real runway for him to claim the second-base job for the Rockies, who have quietly had several hitters (Mickey Moniak, Jake McCarthy, TJ Rumfield) break out with them after floundering in other organizations.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 290 مشاهدة 0 معاينة
