Barcelona send 60m second bid to Man City for Rodri
Photo by Nigel French/Sportsphoto/Allstar via Getty ImagesBarcelona and Manchester City remain engaged in talks for the transfer of Spain captain Rodri, and the Catalans have in recent hours made a new and improved offer. After their initial 45 million bid was rejected over the weekend, the Catalans have sent a second bid worth 60 million plus add-ons which Bara believe will be enough to close the deal, according to reports in England.Talks have progressed well in recent days and Bara remain focused on reaching an agreement this week so Rodri can join training as soon as possible, and their second bid including bonuses bridges the gap between Baras initial 45 million valuation and Citys 80 million asking price.Bara fans are (understandably) getting a little nervous as they remember a few high-profile transfer pursuits that didnt get over the line in the past, but there is serious optimism this will get done soon.We are (hopefully) getting closer and closer to a satisfying conclusion.

Baylor University coach on Cameron Carr's growth, learning process
One of the more intriguing storylines for the Los Angeles Lakers this season will be the development of rookie Cameron Carr. The No. 24 pick in June's draft, Carr is immensely athletic and seems to have substantial potential, and he's easily the most promising rookie the Lakers have had since perhaps Brandon Ingram in 2016.Carr spent three years in college, and he barely played in two years at the University of Tennessee before transferring to Baylor University for last season. At Baylor University, the 6-foot-5 guard averaged 18.9 points and 5.8 rebounds a game last season, compared to 4.8 points a game the previous season, and showed a tremendous amount of growth in a short amount of time.He first entered the transfer portal early in the 2024-25 season and had to sit out the rest of the campaign until he was allowed to play for the Bears. Coach Scott Drew says that during that time, Carr took some things from V.J. Edgecombe, who was emerging as a star for the team that year, via the Southern California News Group. The smart take from the strong, Drew said of Carr learning from Edgecombe. Youre always going to see his work ethic, see how he did things, his approach. And Cam was able to learn from that, and take from that as well.Edgecombe, of course, went on to have a nice rookie season with the Philadelphia 76ers during the 2025-26 NBA campaign.Drew also said that the improvements Carr made resulted in him drawing a lot of attention, which resulted in Carr continuing to grow.He went from somebody at the beginning of the year that maybe people didnt know about, to being at the front of the scouting report, Drew said. Thats something that he wasnt on at Tennessee. The adjustment from a great summer and then great start to the year, to all of a sudden things became a lot harder for him from the standpoint he was the most targeted man defensively.(Opposing teams could say), Dont leave him alone, make sure you know where he is at all times, a lot of help in the gaps, Drew continued. He was able to let his game mature from another standpoint of being the marked man out there.Carr, who made 37.4% of his 3-point attempts last season, didn't shoot well during summer league play in July, but few seem concerned about that. He will have an opportunity to earn playing time on a Lakers team that has gotten considerably younger and needs athletic two-way wings to emerge. He has shown an ability to not only be a reliable catch-and-shoot 3-point marksman, but also to finish strong in transition and make plays on the ball defensively. This article originally appeared on LeBron Wire: Baylor University coach on Cameron Carr's growth, learning process

Kevin McGonigle leads Tigers to first win over Guardians in 2026
A two-out rally in the fifth inning led the Detroit Tigers to their first win of the season over the Cleveland Guardians in the series opener on Tuesday, Aug. 11.The Tigers scored the decisive three runs on a two-run double from rookie Kevin McGonigle and an RBI single from Gleyber Torres to break a tie in Detroit's 6-4 win over the Guardians. The Tigers dropped the first six games of 2026 with Cleveland, an AL Central rival, in a four-game sweep in May and two losses in June.Coming into Tuesday, the Tigers (59-60) had lost 11 of the last 12 regular-season meetings with Cleveland, with an AL wild-card series win over the Guardians placed (58-62) in the middle of that stretch. The Tigers added two more insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh after Javier Bez and Zach McKinstry reached on walks. Bez tried to steal third, and Guardians star Jos Ramrez dropped the throw, allowing him to score. McGonigle drove in his third run with a single into center field.Tigers right-handed starter Drew Anderson surrendered one run in four innings. Jacob Waguespack, Drew Sommers, Kyle Finnegan, Tyler Holton and Kenley Jansen combined to pitch the final five innings from the bullpen. It wasn't all smooth sailing, as Jansen loaded the bases in the ninth with two outs before getting out of the jam with a sac-fly and groundout. The Tigers, tied for second place in the AL Central with the Minnesota Twins, picked up their eighth win over the last 10 games. The Tigers now sit three games behind the White Sox with Chicago and Minnesota still in action on Tuesday night. The Tigers are one game behind the Texas Rangers, who play late on Tuesday, in the AL wild-card race.At the plate: McGonigle deliversAfter recording his first professional hit at his new home ballpark, rookie Max Clark got to touch home plate at Comerica Park for the first time thanks to his best friend in the clubhouse, McGonigle. Clark slapped a single the opposite way and then moved into scoring position on a Javier Bez single. With two outs, McGonigle roped a double down the right field line, narrowly staying inside the chalk, to give the Tigers a two-run lead. Gleyber Torres drove in McGonigle with a single up the middle. The Tigers jumped ahead early after Riley Greene got hit by a pitch in the leg in the second inning. First baseman Spencer Torkelson drove him in with a double deep in the left-center field gap. The Tigers pulled Greene from the game after rounding the bases. He is being evaluated for right hamstring tightness.McGonigle capped off Detroit's two-run seventh inning with a single into center field. Bez's aggressive base running, even if he would have been out without an error by Ramrez, sparked the insurance runs to answer Cleveland's run in the top of the frame. The Tigers recorded six hits and drew three walks. McGonigle finished 2-of-4 with three RBIs.On the moundAnderson surrendered one run on four hits and two walks in four innings. Cleveland rookie Chase DeLauter did the lone damage with a towering solo home run in the third inning.Anderson stranded runners in the first, second and fourth innings. Right fielder Zach McKinstry saved a run with a leaping catch in the right-center field gap in the top of the first. Anderson then stranded two runners in the second by striking out the bottom three hitters in the Guardians lineup consecutively. There was some loud contact, but Anderson mitigated the impact.Waguespack took over in the fifth. He had to work around the two first Guardians batters reaching in the sixth by getting three straight popouts or flyouts.Sommers gave up one run in four batters faced in the top of the seventh before giving way to Kyle Finnegan with two outs.Finnegan remained in for the eighth and gave up a leadoff solo home run to Jo Adell, a Guardians trade deadline addition. The Guardians loaded the bases against Jensen in the ninth, but only scored one run before he picked up his 14th save.Up nextThe second game between the Tigers and Guardians is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12 at Comerica Park (Detroit SportsNet/WXYT 97.1 FM). Tigers left-handed starting pitcher Framber Valdez (7-7, 4.17 ERA) is scheduled to face off against Guardians left-hander Foster Griffin (12-4, 3.31 ERA).Contact Jared Ramsey at jramsey@freepress.com.This article originally appeared on Detroit Free Press: Kevin McGonigle leads Tigers to first win over Guardians in 2026

Kelsey Mitchell, Caitlin Clark help Fever continue hot streak with 106-92 victory over Liberty
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) Kelsey Mitchell scored 20 of her 28 points in the first half, and Caitlin Clark added 22 points and 10 assists to lead the Indiana Fever to a 106-92 victory over the New York Liberty on Tuesday night.Indiana has won seven of its last nine, and this one came after coach Stephanie White's 2 1/2-minute pregame outburst, defending herself while also calling out the sideshows she thinks have overshadowed the WNBA.This time, it seemed to fuel the Fever, who shot 59% from the field and 79% from 3-point range as they took a 64-46 halftime lead against New York, which had gone 8-1 since losing by 20 to Indiana in mid-July. And this time, unlike last week against defending WNBA champion Las Vegas, they didn't allow a double-digit lead to slip away.Mitchell was 11 of 16 from the field and she, like Clark and Sophie Cunningham, each made four 3s on a night Indiana finished with 16 on 25 attempts. Cunningham had 12 points, and Aliyah Boston added 19 points and seven rebounds.Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu each had 19 points for the Liberty. Jonquel Jones finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds.Indiana took control with a 15-7 run late in the second quarter, extending the lead to 54-37. When Indiana's 3s stopped falling in the third quarter, New York charged back quickly and cut the deficit to 66-57 with 6:51 to play. The Fever recovered and Mitchell's three-point play with and Cunningham's 3 in the final minute of the period made it 87-67.Indiana never let the game get close again.___AP WNBA: https://apnews.com/hub/wnba-basketball

Packers will wear new alternate 'Rivalries' uniforms vs. Bears in Week 5
The look of the uniforms is still a mystery, but we now know when the Green Bay Packers will wear their new alternate "Rivalries" uniforms. Fittingly, the new look will be worn in Week 5 when the Chicago Bears come to Lambeau Field. The Packers made the announcement on Tuesday night with this rather simple, black-and-white graphic: Save the date. pic.twitter.com/4vkDaPUc1r Green Bay Packers (@packers) August 12, 2026When could the uniforms finally be revealed? One report pointed to Aug. 25 -- or two weeks from today -- as the debut date. What are the "Rivalries" uniforms? Debuted by Nike and the NFL during the 2025 season, "Rivalries" uniforms are an alternate series to be worn by every single team over the next few seasons. During the 2026 season, the NFC North and AFC South will be debuting the uniforms. Last season, the eight teams from the NFC West and AFC East began the series. From the NFL and Nike "Each participating team will wear a unique Rivalries uniform with designs rooted extensively in local community insights during a single home game against a division rival. The designs have been brought to life by pulling inspiration from the history of each market and the aspects of the community that only that teams city embodies."In April, Packers president Ed Policy had this to say on the uniform: "Stay tuned and you'll learn more in the coming months but I will say this truly alternate uniform will celebrate owners and emphasize our uniqueness"The Packers and Bears are set for a 3:25 p.m. CT kickoff from Lambeau Field on Sunday, Oct. 11.The Bears are scheduled to wear their version of the "Rivalries" uniforms when the Packers visit Soldier Field on Christmas Day.This article originally appeared on Packers Wire: Packers will wear new alternate 'Rivalries' uniforms vs. Bears in Week 5

Prez pitches 6 more scoreless innings, Albies and Olson homer for Braves in 4-0 win over Mets
ATLANTA (AP) Martn Prez pitched six more scoreless innings, Ozzie Albies and Matt Olson homered, and the Atlanta Braves beat the New York Mets 4-0 Tuesday night.Prez (8-6) stretched his scoreless stretch to 18 innings, the third-longest active starting streak in the majors behind Tampa Bay's Drew Rasmussen and Miami's Sandy Alcantara, both at 20 innings. Albies homered in the fifth on an 0-2 pitch from Nolan McLean (8-8), the only significant mistake made by the Mets starter over six innings. Olson added his 35th homer in the eighth, a two-run shot. The Braves had only three hits, but produced enough offense for Prez, who has not allowed a run since Francisco Linder of the Mets hit a two-run homer when the teams met in New York on July 27.The 35-year-old left-hander has given a huge boost to the Braves' injury plagued rotation since being brought in as a non-roster addition for spring training. The Braves scored in the seventh without a hit, taking advantage of Jefry Yan's wildness. The rookie didn't get a chance to show off his strikeout celebration, walking three and throwing a wild pitch that set up Mauricio Dubns sacrifice fly.Prez faced his only serious trouble in the sixth, when Bo Bichette walked with one out and raced to third on Luis Robert Jr.'s single to right. But Carson Benge hit into an inning-ending double play to give the Atlanta left-hander his third straight scoreless outing. Both teams turned in defensive gems in the second inning, though only one resulted in an out.Braves shortstop Jim Jarvis made a diving stop on Benge's hard grounder up the middle, hopped up and made a throw to first that beat the runner. But Olson's foot barely came off the bag, and the call was changed to a hit after the Mets challenged.New York left fielder A.J. Ewing made an out that did stand in the bottom half, racing toward the line for a belly-first grab on Dubn's liner that appeared headed toward the corner.Up NextRHP Tyler Mahle (3-9, 4.83) makes his second start for the Braves in the finale of the three-game series against Mets LHP Zac Thornton (3-2, 2.52). Mahle pitched six scoreless innings in his Atlanta debut against the Yankees after being acquired ahead of the trade deadline from San Francisco. ___AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/mlb
