SPORTS.YAHOO.COMIowa football duo to miss significant time due to injuryIn his media day press conference on Friday, Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz revealed that a pair of Hawkeyes have suffered significant injuries.Third-year defensive back Kyler Gerardy and SMU transfer receiver Lance Beeghley are both expected to miss significant time and maybe the entire 2026 season altogether."Injury-wise, overall, not too bad. We have two guys right now that may miss a big part of the season if not the entire season. Kyler Gerardy unfortunately was injured Wednesday and Lance Beeghley, a receiver, was hurt about a week ago. Those two guys, well see how that goes. Will know more as we move forward. Otherwise, we have some camp issues like every year. Nothing really noteworthy and to comment on," Ferentz said.Iowa also announced on Friday that transfer safety Tyler Brown is dealing with a muscle strain.Gerardy saw action in four games last season, logging 29 defensive snaps and five special teams snaps, per Pro Football Focus. The 6-foot, 199-pound defensive back recorded his first career solo tackle during Iowa's 37-0 shutout at Wisconsin last season.Beeghley, a 6-foot-2, 197-pound receiver, was a three-star signee in SMU's 2024 class, per 247Sports. The New Braunfels, Texas, product did not see any game action over his two seasons at SMU.In high school, Beeghley set school records for career receiving touchdowns and yards, finishing with nearly 2,500 receiving yards. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMIts typical of my luck - Mitch Evans after VSC and extreme Porsche games in LondonMotorsport photoMitch Evans reckons the ill-timed virtual safety car was typical of my luck in race one of the London E-Prix, after Porsches extreme games already compromised his Formula E title chances on Saturday. The factory Jaguar driver could only manage an eighth-place finish at the ExCeL after starting third on the grid, while title rival Pascal Wehrlein converted pole position into a dominant win.Having arrived into the weekend just two points behind Jake Dennis in the title fight, Evans now faces a substantial 21-point deficit to new championship leader Wehrlein with 28 available.Evans was already losing touch with Porsches Wehrlein in the opening phase of the race as Nico Muller backed up the field to let his team-mate run away at the front. But the biggest deciding factor was a mid-race VSC, which allowed the likes of Wehrlein to make a cheap pitstop. Although the Kiwi eventually overtook Muller, he only scored four points as several drivers who had delayed their pitstop boost jumped ahead of him.Having famously faced heartache at London on multiple occasions, most notably in 2024 when Wehrlein snatched the title from both him and his then-team-mate Nick Cassidy, Evans said he wasnt surprised by how the events unfolded in Saturdays contest. We didn't really do anything wrong, we just got unlucky with the full-course yellow, Evans told Motorsport.com, referring to the incident triggered by a technical-induced crash for Lucas di Grassi. It's the first time that [VSC during pit window] has ever happened in a pit boost race and it's just typical of my luck for it to happen to me. It was always going to be tough because the Porsches were trying their best to compromise my race. But we were still in for a good race, so if it wasn't for that [VSC], P2 was on the cards. But obviously frustrated with things out of our hands. It is what it is.Mitch Evans, Jaguar TCS RacingMitch Evans, Jaguar TCS RacingEvans revealed that he had planned to go longer in the first stint, but was forced to pit early in a bid to leapfrog Muller.Obviously with the VSC, going long always protects you from that, he added. Our intention was to go long, but with how much Nico was trying to compromise me, we had to try and clear him and we did manage to do that. How the rest of the race would have played out, who knows.Only 28 points are on offer in Sundays finale, leaving Evans with a slim chance of winning the title but he still wasnt too frustrated about the events on Saturday. We did nothing wrong, right? No one can predict the rest of going into the world with these issues. So yeah, just super unlucky, he said.About his championship chances, he added: I've got a shot, whether it's realistic or not, I don't know. But this is Formula E, crazy things can happen.I need to qualify at the front and win tomorrow's race. It's a pretty clear goal. It's obviously not the way I would have liked to go into Sunday's race, but it's a reality. Hopefully we have a bit more luck tomorrow.Porsches games in the spotlightPascal Wehrlein, Porsche Formula E TeamPascal Wehrlein, Porsche Formula E TeamWith Wehrlein as its primary championship challenger, Porsche put all its weight behind the German in London, as Muller and even Kiros Dan Ticktum slowed down to help him secure pole.In the race, Muller backed up the pack throughout the opening stint, allowing Wehrlein to build a lead of the best part of three seconds.Asked what he made of Porsches tactics and if he expected Muller to back up the field to such an extent, Evans said: You don't really know what to expect from them. We knew they were going to play games, but I think it was a bit more extreme than we were expecting. It's clear who's the favourite in that team. It's been like that for a while. It all started in qualifying. Pascal just had to do one quarter-final and he was guaranteed pole after that. They're just playing all in on him, and fair enough.Evans team-mate Antonio Felix da Costa admitted he was frustrated with how Porsche orchestrated Saturdays race, but ultimately felt a poor qualifying left Jaguar on the back foot.Unfortunately, these guys [Porsche] put themselves in a position to play the games that they did, he said. It's not what we want to see, but they've done a better job than us in qualifying and they were able to win.On assisting Evans on Sunday, da Costa added: As shown today, there are many ways that team-mates can play together and in their case, even Ticktum got involved today to help their chances."So, fair enough. Firstly, we need to put ourselves in a position to be able to do that, that was my fault today in quali. I hit the wall in the quali groups and then my car was just too damaged to try and progress a little bit more through the duels."A little miracle can always happen. We need to be there for the grabs and then secondly, we're still leading the teams [standing] and it's a small gap, so I still need to beat all of them to get that trophy back."That's the main focus. I think tomorrow is the team's chairmanship and hopefully we can have a fun one and bring that one home."Read Also:Formula E London E-Prix: Pascal Wehrlein dominates race one to take championship lead To read more Motorsport.com articles visit our website.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDaniel Farke: We are definitely on a good pathDaniel Farke: We are definitely on a good pathDespite Leeds United cruising past FC Augsburg 4-0 at Elland Road, manager Daniel Farke believes his side can still improve as the pre-season calendar drew to a close.Goals from Anton Stach, Tarik Muharemovi, James Justin and Lukas Nmecha sealed the victory and while the boss was impressed with parts of what he had seen, he explained the real work starts next week with the Premier League opener against Nottingham Forest. We can play better, the German told LUTV. First half, in many situations, also a bit untidy and not precise on the ball. We definitely can play better football and have done this also during this pre-season.But overall, it is the fifth week of pre-season. You could feel we had many inputs also during this week. We had a long day with traveling, coming back late. The next day, straight away training session with tactical sessions, meetings, anyhow. And for that, we were not really fresh, sharp and flawless today. But nevertheless, we were there against normally a really good Bundesliga side.To win this game 4-0, to protect our clean sheet and also to create a few more chances, overall a good finish of pre-season, another good result and another booster for the confidence. We have scored four goals and created more chances. We do all this hard work in order to be then hopefully close to flawless, at least when the wheels start in the Premier League. We have to be outstanding, in our best level. This what the lads also want and it is hard work. Right now, especially the players who were involved during the whole pre-season, they are in really good shape. We have, of course, a few players who arrived a bit later after the World Cup, so they will need a bit until they reach 100 per cent. But overall, as a group, we are definitely on a good path. And yes, I am happy with this.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMClydes Colts recapLet me start by saying that I did not get the best look at the game. I got the Pats feed, so I heard too much McCoruty twin banter, along with another guy who talked with a big Bobs Discount Furniture sign behind him. I am not sure that I heard a Colt player called out by name and I am sure that I did not see a highlight of a good play by a Colt player. It was a dreadful broadcast that I eventually turned down and just accessed my roster after most plays, to see who did something good or bad.It is not likely that anyone won a job Thursday night, unless they were in pretty good shape already. If it were me, I would say that one guy lost a job and that would CB Edwards. You have to be pretty weak to be targeted during a preseason game. Id keep Jaylon Jones in a heartbeat over him right now. One of a couple of things I liked, was seeing pass rushers from a standing position. It looked like both Curry and Gumbs were allowed to do that, so maybe they are hoping that one of them has some natural instincts that can be unleashed situationally. I thought both did a good job of not giving away an edge, but I thought they looked tentative on backside pursuit. I get that they have likely been drilled about not giving up backside contain, but it seemed weird to not see them aggressive.Another thing I liked was the screen game. Those plays had to be in response to the way Ds played us post Pittsburgh. We have been bad at that aspect for quite some time, but I think that they have figured a little something out. If they can get some good results on tape, it could slow some teams down once we get to the regular season, but more likely they will have show they can beat blitzes once the bright lights come on.As far as AR goes, it was more of the same. He looks better with his legs than with his arm. Those that want to support him should take the approach that they take with Ballard. He committed two turnovers and scored 7 points on the way to halftime deficit. If you are a bottom line type, that would not be seen as a positive. I think I would tell him that Id like to put in some packages/gadgets for him. If he is not receptive, Id let him know he is the 3rd string QB and that hed remain a Colt until free agency next year. It seems like hed be a good guy to salt games away with the running game. He would at least be relevant and seen by other teams. It is not like Leonard was good either. I do think that he could be groomed to be a good, cheap, backup for three years.I thought we showed a little better covering the middle of the field, Edwards excluded. Not perfect and not against number ones, but it still looked better than recent versions of the defense. I thought Boettcher looked active. I think Wohlers may always struggle to stay on the field, as he either has bad technique, or a death wish. I also think that we have enough pass catchers. Consider that our top six WR did not play, nor did Warren and it looked like all who were targeted, answered the bell when called upon.Hats off to Freeland for going the whole way. The O-line didnt look like a weakness, with only Travis getting a few snap among the depth charts first teamers. Maybe they didnt blow open holes, but the pocket looked clean enough to me and they evidently did a pretty good job of selling for the screens. In the grand scheme of things, not much was decided, but it was successful enough for health and six penalties for 60 yards is not cause for alarm. Mission accomplished.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -

These are all great learning experiences for these guys.Lomus development carries equal importance because of New Englands need for dependable offensive-line depth. The Patriots also are dealing with an injury to interior lineman Ben Brown, whom Vrabel expects to miss multiple weeks and potentially the remainder of the preseason.Vrabel said New England planned to sign two interior offensive linemen Saturday. That move should protect the teams practice numbers, but it also creates more competition across the unit.Eagles Practices Will Turn Up The PressureThe Patriots will have plenty of opportunities to evaluate their young players in the coming days.Vrabel outlined a demanding schedule that includes red-zone and two-minute work, four padded practices and two joint sessions with the Philadelphia Eagles. Those practices may provide a more valuable test than another preseason game because Jacas and Lomu will face starting-caliber competition in controlled situations.MORE:Patriots May Have Found Best Way To Unlock Romeo DoubsPatriots Rookies Must Convert Flashes Into ConsistencyVrabel remains optimistic about both players.Theyre willing, Vrabel said. WWW.FOXSPORTS.COMCurt Cignetti: Indiana Can Play ND At Home 'Since They're Not In A Conference'Earlier this month, a home-and-home series between the Indiana Hoosiers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish scheduled to take place from 2030-31 was called off, and Hoosiers head coach Curt Cignetti is disappointed about that but also used it as an opportunity to throw shade at the Fighting Irish. "I'd like to play Notre Dame. They ought to come to our place twice, and we'll go up there once, since they're not in a conference," Cignetti said in an interview on the Big Ten Network. "It'd be a great in-state game. I guess there's a backstory to that." Of course, Indiana is coming off winning the National Championship for the first time in program history in what was its second year under Cignetti. Over Cignetti's two seasons in Bloomington (2024-25), the Hoosiers are a combined 27-2 overall and 17-1 in Big Ten play, making the College Football Playoff in both seasons. Meanwhile, Notre Dame was edged out of the College Football Playoff last season after going 10-2. That said, as Cignetti noted, the Fighting Irish aren't in a conference, as they're an independent. Now, while Indiana is indeed the defending College Football Playoff champion, it lost to Notre Dame in the first round of the 2024 College Football Playoff in a game played at South Bend, 27-17. The Hoosiers are also 5-24-1 in the all-time series, with the aforementioned playoff loss marking the two teams' first matchup since 1991, with Indiana last beating Notre Dame in 1950 the last time they met in Bloomington. Indiana opens its 2026 season at home against the North Texas Mean Green on Sept. 5, with its Big Ten opener coming at home against the Northwestern Wildcats on Sept. 25. Notre Dame opens its 2026 campaign at home against the Wisconsin Badgers on Sept. 6.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 44 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMThe things AJ Hinch and Ty Cobb have in common. Hint: Not a lotDetroit Tigers television broadcaster Jason Benetti, as he does, asked manager AJ Hinch a thought-provoking question before the game Saturday. It was Hinchs 933rd game at the helm of the Tigers, which tied him for fifth most in club history with Steve ONeill (1943-1948) and a guy named Ty Cobb (1921-1926). Cobb, of course, was a player-manager.One of the few times in my career Ive been mentioned with Ty Cobb, Hinch said.Benetti asked Hinch what he would be like as a player-manager.Id play myself against a lefty, he said. Though I dont think I could catch up to (White Sox starter Anthony) Kays fastball. But that is one thing I would recommend to the manager side of me. Id also pinch-hit for myself, which shouldnt surprise anybody. He was asked if the player side of him would be mad at the manager side of him for pinch-hitting for him.Oh yeah, he said. Ive never met a player who wasnt mad at the manager for being taken out of the game, why would I be different? Idiot manager makes another move.Cobb had just a few more hits in his playing career than Hinch (only 3,980) and managed 479 wins to Hinchs 454 so far.But at least I had a number, Hinch quipped. As you can see by looking at the bricks at Comerica Park, players didn't have jersey numbers in Cobb's day.Chris.McCosky@detroitnews.com@cmccoskyThis article originally appeared on The Detroit News: The things AJ Hinch and Ty Cobb have in common. The left-hander, who has won two IPL titles with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, produced a fluent and assured knock at No. 3 to make a strong case for himself in India's middle order.Padikkal joins elite list of India's no. 3 left-handersPadikkal became only the second Indian left-handed batter in the 21st century to score a Test century from No. 3, after former captain Sourav Ganguly. Ganguly had scored 136 against Zimbabwe in Delhi in 2002.Overall, Padikkal is the sixth Indian left-hander to score a Test hundred from the No. 3 position. The list is led by Vinod Kambli with four centuries, followed by Ganguly with three, while Salim Durani, Bapu Nadkarni, Ajit Wadekar, Eknath Solkar, Surinder Amarnath and now Padikkal have one each.Ends India's no. 3 search with timely tonPadikkal's century also ended a prolonged wait for an Indian batter to score a Test hundred from No. 3. The last Indian to achieve the feat was Shubman Gill, who scored a century against Bangladesh in Chennai in September 2024. Since then, India had used seven different batters at No. 3 across 19 Tests, with the position collectively averaging just 27.28 and producing only five scores of 50 or more in 35 innings. The 25-year-old had also enjoyed a productive 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season, averaging 60.33, and carried that confidence into Galle. After reaching his century, Padikkal celebrated with a fist pump and a punch of the air before removing his helmet and raising his bat towards the crowd and his teammates.India captain Shubman Gill congratulated him in the middle, while head coach Gautam Gambhir applauded from the dressing room.
