Funeral arrangements have been made for Anthony Lake, the former Hendersonville offensive coordinator and quarterback who died on July 26, according to his obituary. Hendersonville football coach James Beasley confirmed to The Tennessean on July 27 that Lake had died. Lake was 54.A visitation will be held Aug. 2 from 1-3 p.m. at Hendersonville Memory Gardens, Funeral Home & Cremation Center, according to the obituary. Lake's celebration of life will take place immediately afterwards from 3-5 p.m. at the funeral home.Lake is survived by his wife, Heather; his children Chase (Shawnna) Lake and Ashelyn Lake; his mother, Sharon Lake; his father, Ed (Lori) Lake and his sister Jennifer (Travis) Donaldson.Lake was a longtime Hendersonville assistant who served most recently as the Commandos offensive coordinator and quarterback coach. He led his alma mater to the 1988 TSSAA football Class AAA state semifinals. Hendersonville finished with a 10-4 record and a region championship under the late legendary coach Bill Derrick that year. Anthony was also a star baseball player, continuing his career at Birmingham-Southern College.Our prayers are with the family of one of our Commando Baseball Alumni Greats - Coach Anthony Lake, Hendersonvilles baseball program posted on its team Facebook page. Coach Lake leaves behind a remarkable number of student athletes that he influenced over the years from his time coaching football in youth leagues, at Ellis Middle School and at HHS. Jesse Minters early approach has made a favorable impression on Lamar Jackson.The Baltimore Ravens quarterback praised his new head coachs personality, ability to relate to players and emphasis on accountability during an appearance on The Lounge podcast. Minter is overseeing his first training camp after replacing John Harbaugh.Hes got a way about himself, Jackson said. Its just like, man, that guy, I like that guy right there. Hes smooth.Jackson said he recently witnessed Minter sharply correct a player for the first time. Minter then explained that coaches sometimes must respond forcefully when the circumstances demand it. That balance has helped him connect with a roster featuring established veterans and numerous young players.Jackson also pointed to competitive periods Minter has added at the end of practices. Those situations are designed to build camaraderie while requiring players to execute when called upon without warning.In this league, at any given moment, any given play, it might be next man up, Jackson said. Guys have confidence in themselves. I can play with these guys, or my teammates are looking at me to hold myself accountable, and hes holding me accountable.Minter and offensive coordinator Declan Doyle traveled to Florida during the offseason to meet Jackson. The initial visit focused more on forming a relationship than discussing specific plays. Jackson said the coaches told him that the opportunity to work with him was one of the reasons they accepted their positions in Baltimore.It definitely meant a lot to me, Jackson said.I feel like the skys the limit, Jackson said. Theres no limit for us to have success with a coach like that.The Ravens will ultimately judge Minters first season by wins, postseason success and whether Baltimore rebounds from an 8-9 finish. With all things considered, Carrick would be wise to go for a player with Adams skillset before the end of this transfer period.

Not so much. Not when the Athletic report that Barcola could cost 180m.Liverpool certainly don't value Barcola at that level and that has us wondering. A lot has been made of the fact that the Reds aren't the only club interested, with Arsenal also in this race.However, the Athletic's report makes it clear that the Gunners are prioritising a move for Vinicius Jr and his new chin this summer. Without that two-way battle for Barcola, we're not sure PSG will be able to demand that 180m.It's a figure almost certainly dependent on a transfer battle and so if the Parisians wish to sell their winger, they'll need to lower it. For a sport with a reputation for moving slowly, golf always seems to be in a hurry to appoint the next big star.Jackson Koivun is next on the list and certainly worth watching.It's not just because he won a PGA Tour event which included the No. 1 player in the world just two months after leaving college. Remember, it was only two years ago when Nick Dunlap won The American Express (Scottie Scheffler played that one, too) while he was a sophomore at Alabama.Different about Koivun is that he carried the expectations of being the No. 1 amateur in the world. He won six times in college, swept all the awards as the best player, led Auburn to another NCAA title and last year had three straight top-10 finishes in PGA Tour events without ever looking as though the moment was too big.And then in his third start as a pro, Koivun shot 61 on Saturday in the 3M Open after Scheffler had set the target, and then held off Scheffler and everyone else with a 66 and a three-shot victory.That he played bogey-free on the weekend only three other PGA Tour winners this year have done that speaks to his poise. There's also the three words he writes on his golf glove confidence, trust, dominate. That last word he came up with at Auburn because I just want to go see how good I can play.He can play.So where does he go now? For starters, the Rocket Classic this week in Detroit.Koivun, who earned his card a year ago as the No. 1 player in the PGA Tour University accelerated program for underclassmen, moved to No. 70 in the FedEx Cup with his victory at the 3M Open. Two tournaments remain for the top 70 to qualify for the postseason. That would be impressive.But that's not enough. There already is chatter about Koivun being an option for Brandt Snedeker to take as a captain's pick for the Presidents Cup in September.The notion would seem to follow Europe (never a bad idea when it comes to a cup) when Ludvig Aberg of Sweden was No. 1 in the PGA Tour University ranking in 2023. He didn't win until his ninth start as a pro at the European Masters in Switzerland but the polish and power were so evident that Luke Donald put him on the Ryder Cup team in Italy.The idea was to take a player expected to be on many teams for many years and give him a taste of team competition early, especially a home game. It worked out well for Aberg, who went 2-2 in Rome, and ended the year matching the PGA Tour scoring record (253) to win at Sea Island.The Presidents Cup is nothing like the Ryder Cup, of course. The greatest value would be getting comfortable in a team environment although Koivun did play in the Walker Cup at Cypress Point last September and getting phone numbers for group chats with players he still hasn't met.Picking someone so raw wouldn't be all that unusual on the American side.Jordan Spieth won his first PGA Tour event at age 19 he started the year without a card and won in his 15th start as a pro and he was picked for the 2013 Presidents Cup. Spieth qualified for the postseason and in the second playoff event in Boston shot a 62 on the final day. That led Phil Mickelson to text U.S. captain Fred Couples, Dude, you've got to pick this guy.He did, and Spieth played on nine of the next 10 U.S. teams. Two years after that pick, Spieth won the Masters and U.S. Open, had a chance at all four majors and reached No. 1 in the world.Is that the road awaiting Koivun? He clearly has the game and can handle the stage.Even so, golf is best viewed with a wide lens.There was another California native once looked upon as golf's next big thing. Matthew Wolff had enormous power and a knack for big moments, leading Oklahoma State to the NCAA title in 2018 and then crushing the field the next year to win the NCAA individual title, one of six college wins.Wolff turned pro and won the 3M Open in his third start in 2019, making eagle on the final hole to beat Bryson DeChambeau and Collin Morikawa. Wolff finished No. 70 in the FedEx Cup in just six starts, but he lasted only one playoff event.The Presidents Cup had four captain's picks in 2019 (Tiger Woods used one of them on himself for Royal Melbourne) and Wolff was a never a big part of the conversation.One year later, Wolff had the 54-hole lead in the 2020 U.S. Open at Winged Foot and was on the verge of veritable stardom until DeChambeau raced past him to win. Within six months, Wolff was struggling with expectations and mental health issues. And then in 2022, he was off to LIV Golf.Aberg has taken his lumps along the way he has won just once since that blazing start right out of Texas Tech. Morikawa, who won in his sixth start as a pro, had two majors a little more than two years after leaving Cal. Scheffler was part of that age group and took nearly four years to win. And then he didn't stop winning.I had a decent college career, but by no means was I a cant-miss type of prospect, Scheffler said.Koivun fits that mold. He had a great college career. He already has the hype and he already has a trophy. With the Major League Baseball trade deadline coming up Aug. 3, the Milwaukee Brewers are sitting in an obvious playoff spot, have a loaded farm system and would theoretically be players for some of the top names seemingly available on the trade market.But can we really expect 2026 to look different from other trade deadlines?Count Mark Feinsand of MLB.com among those who believe the Brewers will indeed be "aggressive" at the deadline, but what does that look like? ESPN writer Jeff Passan put together "10 blockbuster deals that would rock the trade deadline" and arranged two deals involving a superstar going to Milwaukee. They would certainly count as aggressive.Passan first proposed a deal that sends Detroit Tigers star left-hander Tarik Skubal to the Brewers for right-hander Logan Henderson, left fielder Josh Adamczewski and infielder Ricki Moneys. The latter two are among the more intriguing prospects in the Brewers organization, and Henderson is just graduating from prospect status into reliable major-league starter."Painful as it would be to give up a good rotation piece in Henderson, a surefire big leaguer in Adamczewski and a high-ceiling talent in Moneys, Milwaukee's farm depth allows this sort of deal," Passan wrote. "Models don't like it, but this isn't the time to listen to them. It's time to headline a rotation with Skubal and Misiorowski and let the rest take care of itself."Adamczewski, 21, is one of the faster-rising prospects in all of minor-league baseball, currently at Class AA Biloxi, and Moneys, 17, is part of the Brewers' most recent international class but delivering impressive numbers in the Dominican Summer League. For a rental such as Skubal he'll be a free agent after 2026 the Brewers would be surrendering what looks like far too high a price in this theoretical deal, even for Henderson alone.The 24-year-old has a 3.05 ERA and 0.94 WHIP this season in the big leagues, and is it a stretch to suggest he could perform within the same ballpark as Skubal over the final two months of the season? Never mind the five additional years of control thereafter. Never mind the significant additional losses of Adamczewski and Moneys.Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY threw cold water on the idea of a Skubal-Brewers connection, saying, "They simply don't believe that Skubal will be the magic elixir for all their needs. They still need a power bat. They could use another late-inning reliever. They could use someone to step up and be that solid No. 3 starter."Andy McCullough of The Athletic is among those not giving up on the Brewers-Skubal connection, though he admits it's a "probably not." "Milwaukee built up its excellent farm system through discipline and diligence, and they may not deviate from that strategy," McCullough wrote. "(And the Tigers may just hold onto Skubal, anyway.) But, buddy, Skubal sure would look good beside Jacob Misiorowski at the top of the Brewers rotation, wouldnt he? The franchise hasnt reached the World Series since 1982. The team posted the best record in baseball last year and still got trounced by the Dodgers in the NLCS. Now might be the time to go for broke."Jim Bowden of The Athletic also called Skubal an ideal fit for Milwaukee."The Brewers have the second-best team in the National League behind the Dodgers," he wrote. "Their chances of overtaking Los Angeles (or anyone else in the NL) to reach and win the World Series would go up significantly if they were able to acquire Skubal and team him with their ace, Jacob Misiorowski. Im not sure if Detroit will trade Skubal, but I do know this: the Brewers have more than enough talent in their farm system to land him if they want to."Skubal, the two-time reigning American League Cy Young award winner, has a 2.70 ERA this year in 15 starts. In eight starts since he returned from injury, he's got a 2.70 ERA and a 3.20 FIP (fielding independent pitching, more or less a "deserved" ERA based on certain factors the pitcher can control like homers allowed, walks, strikeouts and hit batters). Skubal has allowed eight homers and just seven walks with 65 strikeouts in 47 innings in those eight starts.Henderson has had his own battles with injury this year, but he's thrown 38 innings this season over his eight appearances with a 3.05 ERA and a 2.98 FIP. He has allowed five homers and seven walks to 47 strikeouts.What about San Diego Padres closer Mason Miller?Passan also proposed the San Diego Padres trading closer Mason Miller to the Brewers for Adamczewski, Braylon Payne, Bishop Letson and Sal Frelick.Miller is under team control through 2030, hence a larger-volume package involving the team's first-round draft pick in 2024 in Payne (who's having an amazing season at Class High A Wisconsin) and arguably the top pitching prospect in the organization in Letson (who's having a so-so season at Biloxi), plus a big-leaguer in Frelick.It's a little more tempting than the Skubal package, although Adamczewski might be doing so well this year that he's crossed into untouchable status. He has a .986 OPS across two minor-league levels this year, including a .907 mark in 30 games at Biloxi. Miller, acquired by the Padres at least year's trade deadline, has a league-best 27 saves this year and a dazzling 80 strikeouts in 44 innings, with a 0.82 ERA.
