That alone tells you plenty. Players talk a lot in their opening interviews. Some of it is routine, some of it is forgettable. What matters here is that Munoz has arrived early, wants minutes quickly and sees Liverpool as a serious step up rather than a comfortable landing spot.His first message was clear enough. It was an unforgettable experience out there at the World Cup. It was something I had dreamed of from a very young age and to be honest, something I never thought I would experience in my life. However, Im very conscious that that is behind me now and I come here full of intention for Liverpool FC. That is the correct answer, and more importantly, the correct mindset.Fast transfer, simple decisionThere was nothing drawn out about this move. Munoz explained that the deal developed while he was away with Spain, which meant there was little room for tours, ceremony or hesitation. From his point of view, the decision was made quickly because it did not need much debate.Yeah, it was a very quick process. Obviously, when it arose I was out there at the World Cup with the Spain squad so I couldnt take any time away to come over to Liverpool to set things in stone here. But obviously I discussed it with my family and straight away there were no doubts that it was a great move for me. So, it went very, very quickly and I am very happy to be here.That is what Liverpool will want to hear from any signing. No drama, no mixed messages, no need for persuasion. He saw the opportunity and took it.There is also a practical element to this transfer. Munoz is young, still developing and stepping into a squad where the demands are obvious. Liverpool are not buying a finished article. They are buying pace, ambition and tactical suitability, then trusting the coaching staff to sharpen the rest.Iraola role already centralIt did not take long for Iraola to become central to Munozs explanation of why he signed. The new head coach appears to have offered him clarity, and for younger players that matters. Minutes matter too, but first they want a manager who can explain the role, the pathway and the expectation.Photo: IMAGOMunoz said, Im sure its the correct step for me and this is exactly what the coach, Andoni [Iraola], said to me as well that he was going to put a lot of confidence in me. He rightly pointed out that I am quite a young player, Im here as a professional and he is going to help me. He is going to help me to develop, and develop within and for this great club and in this mythical stadium, Anfield.That reference to confidence is important. Iraolas football demands energy, width, pressure and repeat sprints. If Munoz is going to be useful, he has to fit those patterns quickly. The player clearly believes he does. I think so. His style, it is well known already that he likes to play with open wingers on both sides and to build this constant and intense pressure, this overwhelming drive forward. So, I think that fits perfectly with my skillset, these are tools that I as a player also bring to the game, so I think it is a good fit for me and I hope to bring these skills to Liverpool.That is blunt and to the point. He sees the tactical match, and Liverpool will expect him to prove it.Pre-season urgency and first impressionMunoz also made an early decision that coaches tend to appreciate. He shortened his holiday and reported early. Again, words are cheap, but this is an action. He knows adaptation matters, especially when the move involves a new country, a new league and a much harsher level of scrutiny.Obviously, pre-season is well under way and I was at the World Cup when the decision came through about the transfer. I was in a position there where I couldnt play in the team for Spain so as soon as that competition was over the main thing on my agenda was getting here, training and getting to meet my teammates. Obviously, you need time to adapt when you are moving to a new club and a new country so for me it was a case of the earlier I could get started, the better.His account of the first session was standard enough, but still useful. He stressed that teammates had been welcoming, that the work was intensive and that the environment was demanding. Good. It should be. Liverpool need additions who are ready to compete, not passengers hoping to settle gently.He said, It was a very good session we had today. I said in my previous answer that my teammates were very, very welcoming that applies equally on the pitch and off. Everyone has been very helpful towards me and very welcoming. We had an intensive training session today. There was a lot to it, a lot of content, and I think as my first point of contact with the club, it bodes well for the future.He also sounds realistic about the level around him. Of course. This club has got some real top-class, world-class players. I think thats going to help me it can only help me in training and in matches to gear up to the tempo that comes with playing in the Premier League. There are no shocks to me but its something that is part of the adaptation and it can only go well for me.Monaco target and Liverpool expectationsThere is no attempt from Munoz to hide behind caution. Asked whether he feels ready for minutes against Monaco, he gave the obvious answer. Well, I think Im ready. Obviously if the coach says so after training and asks me to feature in the starting XI, Ill be there. Im keen and I cant wait to get started. [Against] Monaco, why not?That is what pre-season is for. Get him on the pitch, see how he handles the pace, see whether the tactical fit survives contact with reality. Training ground suitability is useful. Match suitability is what counts.What Liverpool have, on paper, is a forward who arrives fresh from a major international triumph and hungry for the next step. He did not play at the World Cup, and that matters too. It means his medal gives him belief, but not the illusion that he has made it. He still has something to prove.He admitted that success has only sharpened his appetite. Of course, totally I agree. I come here full of ambition. I have a lot to give to the team and Im sure the team are going to help bring out the best in me. So, thats my intention to provide everything I can to Liverpool and help fulfil ambitions.For supporters, the final line was predictable but sensible. I want to thank everyone so far at the club for the welcome. As I mentioned, its been great and been very helpful. Im looking forward to seeing all the fans in the stadium. I hope they can rely on me to provide them with a lot of entertaining football.Now comes the part that matters. The interviews are done. The introductions are over. [BBC]The 2026-27 Premier League season has not yet kicked off, but it has already made history.Nine clubs are set to begin the campaign with a new permanent manager - the highest number ever for the top flight's opening weekend.The scale of turnover has dramatically reshaped the Premier League's managerial landscape.The upheaval did not begin this summer. The 2025-26 Premier League season featured 11 managerial changes, with Forest among the clubs to make multiple appointments during the campaign.The average tenure of a top-flight boss now stands at about 20 months, illustrating just how fleeting life in one of football's most demanding jobs can now be.Recent history also suggests changing manager offers no guarantees. During the 2025-26 season, several clubs that switched coaches continued to struggle. Forest employed three managers during the campaign, Tottenham changed head coach twice, while Chelsea also altered direction before the season ended.Others, however, did enjoy an immediate uplift. Michael Carrick averaged 2.6 points per game across his first five matches as Manchester United boss, while Liam Rosenior collected the same return after taking charge of Chelsea. [BBC]The 2025-26 Premier League and Championship seasons included the introduction of squad-cost ratio rules on a shadow basis, testing to see how a spending cap for squad costs set at a percentage of a club's total revenues might work.These SCR regulations have now been permanently implemented for the 2026-27 season, replacing previous profit and sustainability rules (PSR).Uefa has a 70% SCR cap for European competitions, so Premier League clubs who qualified for Europe fall in line with this limit.Clubs who did not qualify for Europe, and so are only taking part in domestic competitions, are capped at 85% of their total revenue.However, clubs can spend above the 85% limit by using a multi-year rolling allowance of 30%. This allows them to invest ahead of revenue and variance or sporting underperformance.Every club will start this coming season on 85% + 30% allowance, so effectively 115%.If a club spends 105% on their squad in 2026-27, it means they have used 20% of their allowance, and for 2027-28 their maximum spend before potential sporting sanction is 95%.If a club spend less than 85%, they can increase the allowance again to the maximum of 30%.Spending above 85% but under the allowance results in a financial penalty, whereas going over both the 85% and the allowance will land the club a fixed six-point deduction which increases by one point for every 6.5m spent over the 115%.'Anchoring' was also trialled in 2025-26, which meant any club's spending could not exceed a multiple of income earned by the bottom-placed club - however this was rejected at a vote of Premier League clubs.SCR was approved by a vote of 14 clubs to six, and was introduced alongside sustainability and systemic resilience (SSR) regulations.SSR involves three tests that are applied throughout the season:Working capital test - assesses short-term cash resourcesLiquidity test - assesses medium-term liquidity and resiliencePositive equity test -assesses long-term financial healthThe aim of the SCR and SSR regulations is to stop the richest owners providing endless funds to their clubs to sign new players, as any money injected this way does not count as seasonal revenue.They will also aim to prevent clubs from overspending and accruing unmanageable losses.Read more about the rules hereAsk Me Anything is a service dedicated to answering your questions.We want to reward your time by telling you things you do not know and reminding you of things you do.Find out more here
