SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCould the Pirates reunite with Andrew McCutchen?ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA - MAY 24: Andrew McCutchen #4 of the Texas Rangers runs during the game against the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium of Anaheim on May 24, 2026 in Anaheim, California. (Photo by Ric Tapia/Getty Images) | Getty ImagesThe Pittsburgh Pirates were busy at the trade deadline and made several moves to help them move towards a postseason berth but theres still one player in particular that could sign with the team and that fans would love to see in Pittsburgh. Andrew McCutchen was recently released by the Atlanta Braves after signing a minor league contract with the club back in early July. Although the 39-year-old is far from his former-MVP form, there could be some intrigue from the Pirates organization to bring him back to where he started his major league career. Despite the several stops he made over the course of his career, Cutch is synonymous with Pittsburgh, and one more chance at a reunion should at least be considered. After signing with Pittsburgh as a free-agent in 2023 and then playing with the club through 2025, McCutchen and the Pirates were not able to come to terms on one more contract for the 2026 season. After a long winter with what was described as little communication with the Pirates Cutch was signed by the Texas Rangers on March 6 to a Minor League contract and was invited to their Spring Training. He made the team out of camp and remained with Texas before being designated for assignment and ultimately released at the end of May. McCutchen finished his stint with the Rangers with one home run while hitting .192/.277/.537 in 73 at-bats.The Braves have released Andrew McCutchen from his minor-league contract pic.twitter.com/bUusz7WIEg Talkin' Baseball (@TalkinBaseball_) August 4, 2026McCutchens time with the Atlanta Braves organization was spent entirely in their minor league system. Between their FCL team and Triple-A Gwinnett he finished with a line of .275/.370/.450 with an .820 OPS and one home run. It was Cutchs first time back in the minor leagues in 17 years. Now again, McCutchen is past his prime, and is certainly looking at the end of his career. With that being said the time feels right for him to return to Pittsburgh for one last ride before his time as a pro is over. The Pirates just released designated hitter Marcell Ozuna who was viewed in the offseason as a replacement for McCutchen. With Ozunas release it certainly has to open the conversation for bringing Cutch back. The team is promoting Ronny Simon from Triple-A Indianapolis who is having a great season with the Indians. There still is an opportunity to bring McCutchen back home though. 93.7 the Fans Andrew Fillipponi took to X and had an interesting thought on how to make a Pirates reunion with McCutchen realistic. The Pirates should consider signing Andrew McCutchen to a minor league contract, Fillipponi writes. If he hits lefties. Call him up to replace Ozuna. If he doesnt. Let him hang out there. And call him up for the last series of the year. For a proper send-off.There is no harm at this point in the minor league season that could be done by signing McCutchen to a minor league contract that sees him with Altoona or Indy. Even at his age theres no hitter in baseball that knows PNC Park quite like McCutchen, so he does have some value to bring to a team that is trying to make the postseason for the first time in 11 years. If this ends up being a team that slips out of playoff contention, then they could at the very least do the right thing and give one of their franchise greats a proper send off and have him on the major league roster to close out the year.Do you think Andrew McCutchen has enough left to helps the Bucs in their playoff hunt? https://t.co/17n7itKbkM 93.7 The Fan (@937theFan) August 5, 2026Baseball at the end of the day is a business, and difficult decisions need to be made when it comes to building a winning team. Our favorite players are not always going to play for our favorite teams forever because after all Father Time is undefeated. Wit that being said, Pirates fans over the last 30 years or so have not had a whole lot to cheer for, until a scrawny high school kid from Florida named Andrew McCutchen was drafted 11th overall in 2005. When he made his debut in 2009, the organization was still a long way off from being a contender, but it was clear that the team had a special talent growing before them. With the team as a young player McCutchen blossomed into one of the most exciting players in baseball, leading the Pirates to the postseason for the first time after a 21-year drought. He reignited the love for baseball in Pittsburgh and inspired countless kids to pick up a bat and glove in the neighborhoods around the city. Ultimately his time in Pittsburgh did not result in a World Series championship, but McCutchen did establish himself as one of the all-time greats in franchise history, and undoubtedly the greatest Pirate of the 21st century.Life isnt fair and no one is owed anything, but if the opportunity is there to honor a legend then the Pirates organization should jump at it! McCutchen will go down as one of the best players in the teams history and nothing would make fans happier than for him to get his proper sendoff in the city that saw him become a star. One day they will retire his jersey and maybe even erect a statue in his honor, but for right now the time is right to bring Pittsburghs favorite son back home where he belongs donning the black and gold and raising the Jolly Roger! Its not often the Pirates do the right thing, but they could right a lot of wrongs with this one decision; please bring McCutchen back home!0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 36 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMPicking up the Notre Dame Football news we needSOUTH BEND, IN - NOVEMBER 22: Notre Dame Fighting Irish safety Luke Talich (28) runs the ball for a touchdown after catching a blocked punt during the game between the Syracuse Orange and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on November 22, 2025 at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, IN. (Photo by Joseph Weiser/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images) | Icon Sportswire via Getty ImagesWhen you have a lot of options, the speed option hits them hardest.BRACKET PLAYDespite Fall camp opening for Notre Dame Football, there wont be very much daily reporting coming out of South Bend as the media is on a leash via the Irish. That stinks for several reasons, and one of those reasons is that more access would at least allow me to ignore most of the preseason predictions but I cant. One of the more noticeable trends going around is for PREDICTOR PERSON to have the Irish AND Miami in the top 4. The Irish and Miami play in November, and what most of these predictions tell us the game wont actually mean anything. Im not saying theyre full of crap, but neither Notre Dame or Miami have a schedule strong enough to survive a loss in this game and remain in the top four hell maybe even the top six, but thats the trend right now.CFP Prediction Version 1.0 pic.twitter.com/yVsTvBQUJh Josh Pate (@JoshPateCFB) August 5, 2026BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEEHeres your chance to be a D1 offensive coordinator for a wee bit. While the Irish never did join a conference, a lot of the moves made were attempts to put pressure on Notre Dame to join one (specifically the Big 10). Fast forward to 2026 and were talking about congressional bills that have a ND provision in it without saying it. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWest Suburban nudges past Asia-Pacific to close out pool playKIRKLAND, Wash. All the West Suburban 14-Under softball team needed was an opportunity. And twice with two outs, they capitalized. With timely hitting and strong pitching, West Suburban defeated Asia-Pacific (Bacolod City, Philippines) 2-0 Wednesday at the Junior League Softball World Series at Everest Park.We knew coming in it was going to be a tight game, West Suburban manager Rick Roberts said. ... We grinded out enough at-bats to get it done. The East Region representative out of Johnstown will face Hudsonville, Michigan, the winner of the Central Region, at 7 p.m. Thursday in the quarterfinals. West Suburbans lone loss was to the West Region (Palo Cedro, California) by a 2-0 decision Monday.West Suburban finished with a 3-1 record in Pool B.Asia-Pacific finished 2-2.A day after scoring 12 runs, West Suburban had difficulty getting runners on base against Asia-Pacifics Faith Tamba, who tossed a complete game with nine strikeouts in a 7-4 win over the Canada Region (Repentigny, Quebec) Tuesday. But West Suburban finally broke through with two outs in the bottom of the fourth, as Cameron Mash reached on an error when her grounder to second wasnt corralled. Then after Mash stole second, Bryn Roberts hit a hard ground ball up the middle to drive in the run.We got a girl on and we had to roll the dice, Rick Roberts said.Against West Suburban, Tamba pitched six innings and struck out 10.Of her 89 pitches, 76 were strikes.Oh, she was really hard, Bryn Roberts said. Her curveball was disgusting. You just had to get up in the box and adjust.West Suburban finished with just four hits.Shes (Tamba) really, really good, but our pitching is just as good, our defense is just as good, Rick Roberts said.In her Pool B debut in the circle, Reagan Bills was excellent for West Suburban, allowing no runs, no walks and striking out two. She didnt allow a runner past second base, yielding just three singles. She threw 33 of her 52 pitches for strikes.Reagans awesome, Rick Roberts said. Shes our main shortstop, so we dont throw her as much. But as you see in pool, we have six legit pitchers.Bills surely could have pitched a few more innings, but Rick Roberts wanted to keep everyone well-rested heading into bracket play.I think if we were in bracket play we would have ran her out more, he said.We had a plan to keep her at 50 pitches. That way everyone is fresh. Our plan all week was to keep our girls rested so when we get to bracket play, we have five or six options that are well rested. In the sixth, after Abigail Claar was originally called out at second on Jerzy Bopps single to center, West Suburban challenged and it was overturned.Kylie Ferguson then hit a two-out single to right to score Claar. That might not seem like a big run, but one-nothing is totally different than two-nothing, Rick Roberts said.Irelyn Scott pitched the fifth and sixth innings, and left a runner stranded at third in each. Ferguson tossed a scoreless seventh. In pool play, West Suburban pitchers have allowed four runs.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 46 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр -

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMTommy Amaker Returns To Cameron In DecemberUNITED STATES - MARCH 10: College Basketball: NCAA Playoffs, Duke Tommy Amaker (4) in action vs North Carolina Michael Jordan (23), Greensboro, NC 3/10/1984 (Photo by Heinz Kluetmeier/Sports Illustrated via Getty Images) (SetNumber: X29723 TK2)Back in the Krzyzewski era, Coach K said that he didnt like to play against his former players who had become coaches. His successor, Jon Scheyer, has only coached for four seasons so far, and none of his players have become coaches, so he doesnt have that issue. And so he has had no issue setting up what Duke is calling Brotherhood Runs, where teams coached by former Blue Devils come to Durham for a game. In 2024-25, the Blue Devils welcomed Bobby Hurley and Arizona State to Cameron for an exhibition. Johnny Dawkins and UCF came last year, and then Niagara, coached by Greg Paulus, and Howard, coached by Kenny Blakeney, came a few weeks later. This time, itll be Dawkins old backcourt mate, Tommy Amaker, and his Harvard program, as the Crimson will be in Cameron on December 4. Theres a bit to unpack here. Amaker has done well at Harvard since taking the job in 2007, including a school-record 27 wins in 2013-14. Hes had a bit of a time after Covid, with records of 13-13, 14-14, 14-13, 12-15, and last year, 17-12 (he just missed a home-run recruit when Ebuka Okorie reneged on his commitment and played for Stanford. If he had played for Harvard, he might have averaged 40 points per game). Then there were the reports that Amaker was a serious candidate for the Duke job that Scheyer ultimately got. Its not like this game is to make up for that, but hes coming home, hell be treated as a hero in Cameron once more, and that is probably going to feel great. Odds of Harvard winning are not good, but will his team play its best? We would expect and hope so. And whatever else happens, itll be nice to see Tommy Amaker back in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
