SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFantasy Football AMA Recap: Jaguars offense, who's the next JSN, best mid-round TEs among questions answered by Justin BooneWe're into August and fantasy football draft season is right around the corner. As you prep for your drafts in a few weeks, be sure to check out our free fantasy football draft kit with the latest player analysis, rankings, sleepers and more. If you're looking for deeper analysis, our Fantasy Plus options, including the new Ultra package, may be the way to go.Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2026 NFL seasonOn Thursday, Yahoo fantasy football analyst Justin Boone joined the Fantasy Plus discord to answer your questions. Here's a full recap of the AMA.Question: Panthers Offense: Who will lead the way as far as No. 1 RB and No. 1 WR ?Answer: First off, if we don't get better QB play in Carolina ... it might not matter that much for fantasy, in terms of giving you a league-winning player. So, a lot riding on Bryce Young's arm this year.At RB, I'm projecting a frustrating committee to start the season. Chuba Hubbard isn't going away just yet and Jonathon Brooks has a lot to prove in terms of his health. All signs are great on that front and I've moved Brooks just a couple spots behind Hubbard in my rankings, but his ADP is skyrocketing. Wouldn't shock me if he starts consistently going ahead of Chuba soon. Based on how Brooks has apparently looked in camp, if I'm investing in the Panthers backfield, he's the one I'm taking for the long-term outlook. At WR, it's still Tetairoa McMillan over Jalen Coker. But both guys are solid picks where they're being drafted.I do want to caution though ... the Panthers have a tough schedule this year. Near the bottom at every position and the absolute toughest schedule for fantasy RBs. So keep that in mind. When you also add in the injuries on the offensive line, it's forced me to keep expectations in check for this group.Question: Who is the Jaguars WR to target in drafts this year? Word from training camp is BTJ looks amazing, as does Travis Hunter. Parker Washington is looking to continue where he left off and let's not forget Jakobi Meyers after he was traded there. What say you?Answer: They've all had their moments, but Parker Washington will be the best fantasy asset. I like what we're hearing about BTJ looking good and having a bounce-back year, but the quotes on Washington have been relentless. Coaches, teammates, beat writers ... basically everyone around the team has praised him this offseason. When you add in a tough schedule to start the year for the outside WRs, it all points to Washington being the guy.In my WR breakouts column, I discussed Washington's finish to the 2025 campaign. He put up 90 yards and/or a TD in five of his last seven games, And was the WR19 in fppg over the final nine weeks of the fantasy season, ahead of Meyers (WR31) and BTJ (WR44).I'm still holding out hope for Hunter as a dynasty asset, but it sure sounds like he'll be a part-time player on offense this year.Question: Which Broncos RB is the one to draft this year?Answer: Here's how I'm approaching the Broncos backfield. RJ Harvey is in a specific role as the pass-catching option who will get sprinkled in on early downs. But if J.K. Dobbins gets hurt, Harvey won't get all the volume like he did down the stretch last year, 'cause they drafted Jonah Coleman for that role. So Harvey (who wasn't efficient at all with his touches last year) is locked into his spot, which keeps him as an RB3/flex but not much more.Dobbins is saying all the right things and will start the year strong again, I'm sure, but it's hard to trust him for the whole season. We've seen the last two years how he's a good starter when he's out there, but the injuries always arrive. And that's the case for his entire career. Every season has been shortened for him by injuries. And entering his age-28 campaign, I'm doubting he'll get more durable. I hope so, but it's unlikely. I'm still willing to draft Dobbins, as long as you understand he might only be an option early in the season. That leaves Coleman, who I'm drafting everywhere. He's incredibly cheap in ADP, the coaching staff has praised him and he's a perfect replacement for Dobbins when the time comes. So either take Dobbins in the 8th/9th round and pair him with Coleman in the 11th/12th. Or just take Coleman late and play the waiting game.Question: Really conflicted on Jaguars RB Bhayshul Tuten. Can he really be a lead back and live up to his ADP??Answer: Absolutely. People are worried about Chris Rodriguez Jr., but he's a limited player who offers almost nothing as a pass-catcher. Even if C-Rod takes some of the goal-line work, Tuten can still be a solid fantasy RB2 with upside. Remember, last year Tuten scored seven TDs as the No. 2 RB in Jacksonville and had almost 100 touches ... but Etienne still finished as the RB10 in fppg. The Liam Coen offense will provide.Question: Everyone is looking for the next Jaxon Smith-Njigba. But shouldn't we be looking for the next George Pickens/Chris Olave?Answer: I'm pretty sure Harmon and I talked about this on a show in early June. I think this year's Pickens is clearly Jaylen Waddle (assuming that new injury isn't anything serious).Pickens was a good WR, going to a new team that offered a QB upgrade and threw the ball way more.Waddle checks all those boxes.Question: I have the 1.05 in my 12 team half PPR redraft league. Do you prefer CMC or JSN? Thanks Justin!Answer: I have a hard time drafting CMC this year. We all know the ceiling, but he showed some signs of decline last year and really got home based on the volume. Could he do that again? Absolutely. But he's a 30-year-old back coming off 450 touches when you include the playoffs. That's scary. Our guy Joel Smyth did some great work on this (hopefully I won't butcher it, haha). But Joel pointed out that the 10 RBs over the last 10 years who have had 400 plus touches when you include playoffs. And when you look at the next season we only had 3 hits during that time ... Ezekiel Elliott, Derrick Henry and Le'Veon Bell all delivered for fantasy the next year. But at the time those guys were all 25 or younger during those seasons. CMC is on the wrong side of 30 ... so a bit of a different story. All this to say that I'm taking JSN.Question: We know that Brock Bowers and Trey McBride are top-two TEs. Can you line up the next tier behind them ... Nos. 3-8??Answer: Colston Loveland with Tyler Warren closer than people think.Tucker Kraft in a tier of his own. Health is the only thing holding him back from being in the tier above.Harold Fannin Jr. and George Kittle next. If healthy, Kittle would also be in the second tier (if not the first). Then Sam LaPorta and Kyle Pitts Sr., who I just don't fully see the ceiling outcomes for. Target competition tough for LaPorta. And Pitts only blew up when Drake London was hurt last year.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 122 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM'Unnecessary pressure': Ex-cricketer questions Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's elevation to vice-captaincyFormer Gujarat captain Priyank Panchal has become the latest voice to question the decision to appoint 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as East Zone vice-captain for the upcoming Duleep Trophy, saying the teenager should first be allowed to settle into the demands of red-ball cricket.Sooryavanshi, who will serve as deputy to Ishan Kishan, was handed the leadership role despite having played only eight first-class matches for Bihar. His appointment came ahead of far more experienced players, including Abhimanyu Easwaran, who has featured in 113 first-class games. The decision followed Sooryavanshi's impressive outing in Zimbabwe, where he was named Player of the Series after scoring 151 runs in three T20Is, including a match-winning 81 in the third and final game. However, Panchal believes the selectors could have waited before entrusting the youngster with additional responsibility."I think the zonal selectors could have avoided making Vaibhav Sooryavanshi the East Zone vice captain. It could put unnecessary pressure on the young kid. Let him understand the dynamics of red ball cricket first, properly, before entrusting such duties upon him. Thoughts? #DuleepTrophy," Panchal wrote on X (formerly Twitter). The appointment has sparked debate among fans and former cricketers, with many arguing that the teenager should be given time to develop before taking on a leadership role in one of India's premier domestic red-ball tournaments.Despite the criticism, East Zone selectors have defended the decision, insisting it is part of a long-term plan for Sooryavanshi's development."We are not thinking about the present alone," Manish Vardhan, former cricketer and Jharkhand's representative on the East Zone selection committee, told Cricinfo."A vice-captain gets to observe the captain closely and understand how a team is run. We wanted Vaibhav to be more involved with the group because we think it will help him as he develops. He's an extremely talented cricketer and is maturing steadily. Giving him this responsibility is another part of that process," he added. The 63rd edition of the Duleep Trophy begins on August 23 at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. East Zone will face North-East Zone in the opening round, while West Zone take on North Zone. The winners will meet South Zone and Central Zone respectively in the semi-finals on August 30, with the final scheduled for September 5.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 123 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWhy did Tigers traded Tarik Skubal so early? An ESPN report explainsThe Detroit Tigers traded ace pitcher Tarik Skubal to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday, Aug. 1. That was two days before the Aug. 3 trade deadline, two days the Tigers could have spent fielding more competitive offers for the top trade target in baseball. Why didn't they wait longer to trade him?ESPN's Jeff Passan answers that question in his latest article published on Friday, Aug. 7, outlining why the Tigers chose the Dodgers' trade package of outfielder Zyhir Hope, right-handed pitcher River Ryan and right-handed pitcher Brady Smith over those from other teams. And, more interestingly, why the Tigers traded Skubal earlier than many teams anticipated. Why George Kirby got the Tigers to move quicklyThe crux of the issue centered around Seattle Mariners starter George Kirby, a 2023 All-Star who has gone 8-9 with a 3.76 ERA over 127 innings in 2026. Since Kirby has one more year of team control than Skubal, the Tigers were worried teams with top packages would pivot away from negotiating for the two-time reigning American League Cy Young Award winner."The Tigers knew they were primed to land a haul of talent for what amounted to 10 regular season starts by Skubal and, best-case scenario, five more in the postseason and they feared if they waited too long, their best options could opt for a pitcher like Kirby with multiple years of control and potentially collapse the Skubal market," Passan wrote. "Such fears, according to conversations with more than a dozen people directly involved in the Skubal discussions, were well-founded. Teams were reluctant to stake their entire deadline on the possibility of acquiring Skubal, lest they find themselves on the losing end and reach 6:01 p.m. empty-handed."The Mariners, who traded starting pitcher Luis Castillo to the Chicago White Sox on Sunday, Aug. 2, ended up holding on to Kirby. But there were still plenty of teams negotiating with the Tigers for Skubal.According to Passan, the Tigers passed on the Tampa Bay Rays' offer when the Rays refused to include outfielder Theo Gillen, MLB Pipeline's No. 9 overall prospect, in a potential deal. The New York Yankees didn't offer up No. 20 overall prospect George Lombard Jr., and the Milwaukee Brewers didn't offer No. 1 overall prospect Jess Made or the team's No. 3 prospect, Luis Lara. Why the Dodgers' package won outMilwaukee's package, which featured infielder Luis Pea(Pipeline's No. 18 overall prospect) plus two other players, was reportedly considered alongside Los Angeles', according to Passan. But the Dodgers' offer, despite Hope ranking lower on many prospect lists than Pea, won out thanks to the inclusion of an MLB-ready starter in Ryan."Adding [Ryan] to a rotation that already features a pair of young, controllable starters with triple-digit fastballs [Troy MeltonandJackson Jobe], plus [Framber] Valdez and the returningReese OlsonorKeider Montero, sounded awfully appealing to the Tigers," Passan wrote. "Pair the rotation and outfield with an infield that includes a rookie All-Star shortstop in [Kevin] McGonigle, an All-Star catcher in his prime in [Dillon] Dingler and a near-big-league-ready group ... and it becomes easier to understand the appeal of the Dodgers' package."According to Passan, the Tigers then used the extra time before the Monday deadline to focus on trading right-handed starter Casey Mize, who went to the San Diego Padres in a last-minute deal. The Tigers also held on to other veterans on expiring deals like second baseman Gleyber Torres, starting pitcher Jack Flaherty and closer Kenley Jansen with the hopes of competing for an AL wild card spot. And though the odds of Detroit making the postseason are still pretty low even after winning seven of eight games, the Tigers now find themselves just one game back in the wild card race entering Friday. Detroit has already shown they have made the playoffs following a sell-off in 2024 can they do it again without Skubal and Mize in the rotation?Needto catch up on the news during your lunch break?Sign up for our Sports Briefing newsletterto get daily summaries of Detroit sports! You can reach Christian at cromo@freepress.com.This article originally appeared on Detroit Free Press: Why did Tigers traded Tarik Skubal so early? SPORTS.YAHOO.COMKyle Monangai on why it's easy running behind Bears RT Darnell WrightEvery running back enjoys having a good run-blocking offensive line. The Chicago Bears had one of the best offensive lines in the NFL last year, paving the way to the league's third-best rushing attack with D'Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai.Left guard Joe Thuney and right guard Jonah Jackson already had contracts through the 2027 season. Now, right tackle Darnell Wright is also contractually bound to the Bears long-term after signing a four-year, $116 million contract with $93 million guaranteed, helping to ensure the continuity of this talented unit.Wright has been with Chicago since they drafted him with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. In his first three years in the league, he has started all but two games and was a second-team All-Pro in 2025. Monangai explained why Wright is easy to run behind.Easy, because he moves whatevers in front of him. He makes it very easy; a lot of the guys up front do, Monangai said. He does a great job. We all heard the news about the recent signing. No ones more deserving. Him, as well as the other guys up front, they just do a great job of making me and [running back DAndre] Swift and the rest of the guys in the room have peace of mind knowing theyre going to do their job.Monangai and Swift were one of the best running back duos in the NFL last season with both recording over 750 rushing yards and at least five rushing touchdowns.Even though the left tackle position is still up for grabs, with Jackson, Thuney and Wright still on the offensive line from last season and new veteran center Garrett Bradbury, this should be one of the best units in the NFL once again.Follow Bears Wire onTwitter,FacebookandInstagramThis article originally appeared on Bears Wire: Kyle Monangai on why it's easy running behind Bears RT Darnell Wright0 Reacties 0 aandelen 154 Views 0 voorbeeld
