Missouri volleyball has a new look this fall, and head coach Dawn Sullivan is serving up the details. Sullivan and sophomore outside hitter Paige Felder met with reporters on Monday, Aug. 10 in the media room at the Mizzou Arena, part of a fall sports media day.For volleyball, the buzz was all about a roster full of newcomers whove already meshed, with their first live look at the team in the annual Black and Gold scrimmage, and a 2026 schedule that includes the programs first true test against outside competition.Black and Gold Gives First Glimpse of New Roster The Black and Gold scrimmage, played in front of fans at the Hearnes Center, was the first real chance to see this years team show up and show out. I thought they did a really nice job controlling the court and the reception piece, Sullivan said. I was really impressed with that part. She added that the groups togetherness stood out most: I just was really excited just how they showed up and the way they competed and the way they still stayed together as a group.Sullivan pointed to setter Nina Mandovic as a standout, emphasizing she wants to see Mandovic continue directing the offense along the net and keeping the ball high. She also singled out back-row play from Ainoah Cruz and Zoey Matias-Lopez, along with St. Louis product Claire Morrissey, for their ball control and a desire to clean up their offensive game.Felder Embracing Leadership Role in Sophomore SeasonFelder has carried her focus into preseason camp, utilizing her work ethic and showing signs of leadership she has brought to a retooled roster.She is dialed in, and I would say on a mission to be great, and shes just so disciplined, Sullivan said. She always has been disciplined with what she does, but even after practice today, shes like, no, I just want a few more reps, want a few more reps, and so intentional about how she makes her moves and the way shes kind of leading this group.Felder emphasized that hearing from her coach only adds to her confidence heading into her sophomore season with the Tigers. It makes me proud to know that, because I feel confident going into this next season and knowing that my coaches also have my back, Felder said. It just makes me happy and going into this next season, I just feel more confident and ready. I work every day to be intentional, so its good to know that its noticed.New Faces Settling in QuicklyWith a roster that has undergone significant change, both Sullivan and Felder stated the group has bonded faster than expected. Sullivan credited this to a summer spent training together for building early momentum.Theyre killing it, is what Ill tell you, Sullivan said. And one is just because theyre so tight. Theyve been together all summer, just training and working hard to have this one team, and I think theyre doing a really good job out there. And then on the court, just the cohesive unit, theyre very open-minded.Felder mentioned the newcomers, particularly the freshman class, have made the transition easy and have done a good job inserting themselves onto the squad.I was talking about how the freshmen bring lots of energy, Felder said. Theyre just excited to be there, and its a different feeling that I love to have because when youre excited about volleyball, [and] its just easy to get along with people like that.Exhibitions and a Trip to Wrigley on DeckThe Tigers next test comes against outside competition for the first time this preseason, and Sullivan stated she is eager to see how a roster full of newcomers handles unfamiliar opponents and how that is part of the appeal.They dont know us and we dont know them, Felder said. Im excited to play another team and just show the world what weve been working on for the last year.A few games down the road, Mizzou is slated to play outdoors at the familiar Wrigley Field against Nebraska, a matchup the fans arent just excited for.Im excited to play at Wrigley, Felder said. Its ]definitely a dream. It was something I never thought I would do, but now that Im doing it, and I just cant wait to play outside and against Nebraska.Setting the Bar for the Season With a new season at large, the team has already discussed their goals for the fall, along with an SEC Tournament run at the top of their list. We definitely want to make the tournament, and we want to go far in the SEC tournament, if not win the SEC champs, Felder said. Just a big thing, also is just passing reception. How can we get 2.5, is what we call it, and as well as hitting over 250, so just executing our skills, but also going far in the tournament and SEC.As for Felder, her own preseason focus has been working on being a steadier presence on the court. With that mindset at play, her season is sure to be filled with lots of memorable moments. During this preseason I say, how can I show consistency and drive, and just being just a leader in how I play, Felder said. Ive tried to talk more, but I feel like how can I be consistent where people can trust me on the court.For a roster built on loads of new faces and early chemistry, the goals are set and it is a matter of putting those pieces together before SEC play begins. Right before the trade deadline, there was scuttlebutt from MLB.com Braves beat writer Mark Bowman that Spencer Strider had cleared out his locker room and was likely done for the season. However, during todays pregame press conference, Walt Weiss indicated that Strider may not be done for 2026 after all. When Weiss was asked for updates on various pitchers who are currently on the shelf, he shocked the room by casually including Strider in those updates as well. Weiss had no updates as far as Robert Suarez goes and maintained that Spencer Schwellenbach had a way to go before returning from his throwing program. Weiss did mention that Hurston Waldrep had a good report once he got a second opinion on his throwing arm and then mentioned that both he and Strider would be starting up throwing programs soon. There was a possibility that he couldve been out for the year, explained Weiss. Its tough to put timelines out there because things just change. Their progression changes day to day its never linear. Weiss went on to explain that apparently it was just down to Strider himself noticing that he was feeling somewhat better than expected. Hes feeling good, the tests are positive and when that happens you get to the next step where its Lets start throwing again, so hes felt good enough to do that, stated Weiss. With that being said, its still pretty tough to imagine Spencer Strider coming back and having a major impact on the rotation here in 2026 and Weiss mentioned as much while continuing to give his thoughts on the situation. Theres a big leap between starting a throwing progression and throwing on a major league mound, explained Weiss. Theres a lot to uncover but at least hes starting to throw again.Theres already a prime example of just how long a throwing program can take after all, it sure seems like Spencer Schwellenbach has been on a throwing program for what feels like half of the season so far. Id imagine that its still doubtful that well see Strider pitch in a big league game again in 2026 and if he does, I anticipate it being out of the bullpen. But for now, dont close the door on Strider returning because apparently the Braves themselves still think he might have something to contribute here in 2026. Meanwhile, BravesVision analyst Paul Byrd tried to get the skinny on the confusion that occurred on Saturday (and bled into Sunday) when it came to Chris Sale and that contentious balk call. Weiss stated that he was still just as confused as ever with what happened out there, despite having a conversation with crew chief Dan Bellino. This is not something that we have ever done. Chris Sale has never done this in his career; declaring from hitter-to-hitter. Thats never been a thing. You declare once and thats it, stated Weiss. Now, if youre going to go back to the stretch then you have to redeclare but hes never had to declare from hitter-to-hitter you declare one time.So I dont know where that came from, continued Weiss. I dont know if the league is cracking down on it. [] If this is something that were cracking down on [] then thats a conversation at the home plate meeting or a heads up. I havent heard anything about cracking down on it its news to me! Usually theres a memo that goes around at the very least. Weve never dealt with this before and we didnt even know what the heck was going on when the balk was called. I think there needs to be clarity. My conversation with Bellino is that hes going to have to declare every hitter moving forward, said Weiss as he continued to discuss the weird situation. If thats the case, then let me know and let Chris know. Weve dealt with a lot of changes not that this is a rule change. Weve dealt with having to adjust with pitch clocks and throw-overs and we do it seamlessly because these guys adapt very well. If thats the case then we need to know that. I think well get to the bottom of it soon. It was a weird chain of events there and Ive never dealt with that before.So yeah, there are still some feelings of contention between the Braves and that particular umpiring crew but for now, the Braves appear to be prepared to deal with it, adjust and move on. That should be the end of what was a wacky saga that somehow turned into a two-day affair (and now three since here we are, talking about it).

Nepal have made a major leadership change ahead of the ACC Mens Premier Cup, with leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane returning as the countrys ODI captain.
